Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

The struggle is real...I find I eat more the colder it is and less the warmer it is...because I like to be outside and I don't like to eat when I am warm. So you can imagine how the winter has been going for me. Wishing you lots of luck in your endeavor.

And heal up hammie!
giphy.gif

Winter is definitely a bigger challenge for me. Plus in summer, I just eat better food in general because produce is so much better! Thanks for the well wishes!!

I'm glad you're resting the hamstring too. And I of course, hear ya on the weight loss/gain cycle. I actually find that marathon training just breaks even for me because all those miles make me so much more hungry. o_O I am of course already a totally normal, healthy weight, but would of course, always like to weigh less, so as to go faster not just to fit into smaller pants.

Heal up to your hamstring, it does seem if its' not one thing it's another when you are a runner! So, is your PF all better? Mine was getting better, but flared up some, not too bad but still a nuisance.

Good idea on the rest. Heal up and be great like we all know you are!

I myself put on some weight since starting college. Lately I have been working harder to eat better which is something I didn't normally do in the past.

I'm also mostly motivated by the goal to go faster if I weigh less. Don't get me wrong, smaller pants would be nice, but I know that I feel better and run faster when I weigh less!

I'm cheering you on in your healthier eating effort! I would love to lose 8-10 lbs, but my motivation just isn't there! Hope your hammy feels better soon!

Thank you! I'm hoping my motivation for losing weight stays there. Usually it's short-lived thus hoping that adding it to my journal will help me stick to it!

I'd say the PF is 98.72% better. :D I really only get the occasional twinge in it usually first thing in the morning. It never bothers me while running anymore. I'm glad to hear yours is getting better too. It's insane how long that took to improve!

Thank you! And, aside from the weight stuff (which is my primary motivation) I do know that I feel better when I cut down on the processed junk! It's just so darn easy though.

SHAMROX TIME!!!
TRAINING WEEK (PLUS A RACE) 3/5 - 3-11
635934136098354718-141866281_Leprechaun-Gold-Pot-88489.gif

Confession: Leprechauns freak me out (much like clowns) but one running with a pot of gold seemed less creepy
New format on my training reports to include my low-carb and calorie intake as well as a weight check-in. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track intake. The goal is to stay under 1,390 calories and 50g of carbs per day. I know you are excited. I'll be sharing some food photos as well though and that should make it better, right? It's like a little menu Top Chef right here on your very own Disboards (but with less appetizing food and crappy pictures).

A few slip-ups this past week with some missed workouts. Oops. But not too bad.

Sunday 3/5 - We ended up running on Sunday instead of Saturday as I shared before. 6 mile run with a :90/30 interval. Took it nice and easy to see how my hamstring would do and it was pretty good really. Uphills definitely make me feel the strain though. Overall pace 12:08. Good pace to start, but I slowed up quite a bit the last couple miles so I didn't push the hamstring too hard.

Yoga in the evening. Still going well for us and I MIGHT be able to tell that I'm getting better.

Last day of carb eating. Bye bye carbs!

Monday 3/6 - We were supposed to get up to do strength training, but we bailed. Nobody else was going to meet us and so we slept a bit instead. We are decidedly not champions.

Weight gain/loss - 0.0 (initial weight taken here - and yikes it had definitely crept up a bit over the last couple of months)

Calories - 1,519 (+129 calories)
Carbs - 47g (-3 grams)

Tuesday 3/7 - 3 mile run. Again just trying to baby the hamstring a bit, so we just did 3 miles doing :90/:30 intervals but I did pretty well although we took it slow up some hills again. Overall pace 11:36

Yoga in the evening. Namaste.

Calories - 1,354 (-36 calories)
Carbs - 37g (-13g)

Random cute shot of my son and dog. Cause, why not?

IMG_3662_zpsdawgrbly.jpg

Wednesday 3/8 - Strength training. Back at the normal routine. I had a work conference and the lunch they provided was like ALL carbs, so carb count not so great today. :(

Calories - 1,164 (-226 calories)
Carbs - 60g (+10 g)

Thursday 3/9 - 4 mile run. :90/:30 intervals and overall pace of 11:20. Hamstring is improving, but slooooowly.

Yoga in the evening. Same poses different day. :D
Calories - 1,200 (-190 calories)
Carbs - 26g (-24g)

Friday 3/10 - Rest day. We were originally thinking we might do strength training to make up for missing Monday, but again decided not to do it.
We had a nice steak dinner out and then got home to set up for the race on Saturday. Weather was not looking great with temps in the low 30s and chance of wintry mix. Blech. Come back, Spring!!! So, I decided some layers were in order but still wanted to wear my Irish Lass sparkle skirt, so legging underneath it was. Flat me!

IMG_3664_zpshgdkr1ge.jpg

Calories - 1,914 (+524 calories) Oops. That steak dinner out sort of drove up the calorie count, but carbs look good!
Carbs - 23g (-27g)

Saturday 3/11 - Luckily when Saturday morning arrived, it was chilly, but not precipitation. Temps were in the low 30s for the race, but comfortable once we started running. We met up with some friends from our Galloway group and ran most of the race together. :90/:30 intervals. It's a very hilly course at the end and I was paranoid again about my hamstring, so I ended up slowing down a lot the last couple of miles. We were right around an 11:00 minute pace through the first 6-7 miles and ended up at an official pace of 11:41 for the race. Strangely my Garmin had me at 11:31 and that was even with me forgetting to turn it off for a bit after the finish. Strange to be off that much really, but oh well. I did a terrible job on fueling for this race. I didn't eat anything before or during the race and then didn't drink my electrolytes enough, so shortly after we stopped, my calves started cramping badly. Really stupid of me. I KNOW better. We skipped our free beer at the end :( and headed home. Still it was a fun race and it was nice to run with some of our regular running pals again. No medal for this race, but you did get a beer glass.

Pretty good week and off to a good start on our low-carb diet for the most part. I share my weight next week from this week, but saw a good drop, but there's always a lot of water weight that comes off quickly on this diet, so I expect the loss to level out soon. Here's a little day in the life of meals though on this diet. It's basically good stuff really once you can get past craving sugar and potatoes. ;)

Breakfast - Scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese and avocado
IMG_3669_zpsegnm00gr.jpg

Lunch - Hamburger patty with bacon, cheese and kale chips
IMG_3670_zpsqz78whqq.jpg

Dinner - Spicy Tuna Cakes and zoodles (YAY) with butter and parm cheese
IMG_3671_zps3fkkbm1f.jpg

Dessert - Blueberries with sugar-free whipped cream
IMG_3672_zpscya8jynk.jpg

Yummy, right? I don't think I'm ready to apply to Top Chef yet, but I think this isn't too bad of a menu to live on. That's all for now, folks. Planning to be more consistent this week on my workouts though!!

ZOODLES!!! This gets me itching to zoodle real bad!

Congrats on your 15k. And any pictures with cheese and bacon in them are welcome. Especially right now, because I'm starving!

My zoodles were delicious. Sadly, my spiral slicer broke while making them WAH!!!! It was a cheapo one, but still. Bought a new one today though.

Great week!!

Tell me more about these spicy tuna cakes... :)

It's a recipe from Nom Nom Paleo. She has tons of good recipes there. This one is not super low in carbs (because of some sweet potato), but it's not bad either. And they are really tasty.

Great week! Sorry your race wasn't proprely fueled, so it didn't feel as good at the end. I guess that happens with the low-carb thing.

Good job with the diet overhaul!! Seems like a win overall. I love bacon so maybe I could get onboard with something like this :scratchin

Still going strong with the diet. Bacon is always a good thing, but of course once you deprive yourself of carbs - that's all you want to eat. HA!!

It does happen with the low-carb thing especially early on when you are adapting to it. I was mostly just irritated with myself because I do know better than to do that during a race.

TALE AS OLD AS TIME – DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME KICKS MY BOOTY!
TRAINING WEEK ( 3/12 – 3/18)

giphy.gif

This week was a challenge for me, so I missed some workouts again. It seems every year as I get older, the switch to Daylight Savings just gets harder and harder. Combine that with some dips back down into cold temps and this was not my best week. But, the diet at least is going well and I tried my hand at baking some stuff – with pretty decent results.

Sunday 3/12 – I was supposed to ride my bike, but I was a big loser and didn’t do it. No good excuse, just didn’t make myself do it.
Monday 3/13 - We slept in instead of doing our strength training, but I did make myself do it after dinner, so at least I managed to get that one done.

Weight gain/loss - -3.6 lbs. for the week. -3.6 lbs total. YAY!! That’s a lot for a week, but at least a couple of these pounds are water weight which is typical to lose quickly with a low-carb diet. Things will slow down pretty quickly, but I’m still pleased to be off to a good start.
Calories - 1,328
Carbs – 26g

Tuesday 3/14 – 4 mile run planned and……we bagged it. It was freaking cold and felt like the middle of the night so we slept.
Calories - 1,077
Carbs – 23g
Wednesday 3/14 – GAH! We bagged on strength again!!! And, I didn’t even do it that evening.

raw
Calories - 1,001
Carbs – 23g
Thursday 3/15 – 4 mile run at 90/30 intervals. Good solid run and good to be out there again. Overall pace 11:19
Calories - 1,017
Carbs – 30g
Friday 3/15 – Rest
Saturday 3/18 – 8 mile run. We met up with some Galloway peeps and ran 60/30 intervals. This was a nice run with good temps and good company. Overall pace 12:04.
Yoga. I ALMOST HELD THE PLANK TO DOWNWARD DOG TO PLANK THE WHOLE TIME. ALMOST!!! She holds it for so long!! I timed it after it was over and it’s 1:45 total. My arms just give out on me. But, I’m getting closer.

I did really well on the diet this week and I’m feeling good. I was under my calorie goal and carb goal all week. I’m fighting some cravings here and there, but I’m not fighting hunger or struggling to meet my goals.

Here’s a few items we ate this week…

Home baked English muffin with cream cheese, prosciutto ham and onions.

Home baked cinnamon muffin

It was all really good. I also saw the new live-action Beauty and the Beast this weekend and I completely LOVED it!! Go see it if you haven't already.

Happy First Day of Spring Y’all. My front entry table has transitioned from St. Patty’s to Easter!!!

We have the same little baking cups! I use mine for my mis-on-place (probably spelled that wrong because I'm being fake fancy!)
Your homemade things actually look quite yummy. How was that bread. Something I've never tried making and kind of want to now.

As for getting your STIR in...You'll get back to doing it on schedule...But

(omg, I am so proud of myself...I had to do that...sorry!!! RIP Brittany Murphy)

Brittany Murphy. :( I love Clueless so much.

The bread was really good actually. I mean, not exactly like good ole yeasty, grainy bread, but a pretty good substitute and it was really easy to make. I used a little mini loaf pan and baked it in my toaster over.

Baked goods look fantastic, as do the lettuce wraps. Congrats on sticking with the diet!!

Thank you! I'm happy with how things are going so far.

OMG...Clueless GIF AND a Clueless meme. :faint: What a glorious day already!!

20+ years old and it still totally holds up. ::yes::

Good job on the weight loss! I'm gonna need you to send me about 3 dozen of those cinnamon muffins, kthx.

I love the bunny in the carrot-cart! (Carrot-Cart made me think of carrot cake... which is YUM)

Your lettuce tacos look delish- can never go wrong with any kind of tacos in my world! Your healthy eating efforts seem to be paying off- can you send some of that discipline my way? ;)
