Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

I've already spent more time than I should thinking about this, but maybe for the half I could do a picture of Tinkerbell like so

hqdefault.jpg

and then say something like "IF FOUND ON GROUND PLEASE CLAP AS YOU RUN BY"

You HAVE to do this! I love it!

So jealous of all you girls doing tink, the medals are FABULOUS!

SPRINGTIME IN FEBRUARY??

Training Week February 12-February 18

tumblr_static_olaf-frozen-disney.gif

I’m not sure what is happening with the weather around here lately, but I can tell you I’m LOVING it! It’s been absolutely beautiful here. We’ve got daffodils up and blooming and some trees even starting to bud. Of course, that means they are all gonna get zapped by some hard freeze between now and true spring, but it’s still pretty freakin’ awesome right now.

After a less than stellar week last week, I’m happy to report this past week was so much better. That’s the way this training stuff goes sometimes right? Up one day and down the next.

Sunday 2-12 – Bike day. I got on my trainer and cycled for a bit. My legs were fine, but, man, do I remember how much I hate that hard seat. Even with my cushy bike skirt thingy. I only did 15 minutes and called it good at this point. I’m going to work on upping the time on the bike by 5 minutes each week until my rear end gets more comfortable on it again. Still, I did it. YAY!

Monday 2-13 – Core strength training. Yada yada. Not much to say here. It was fine.

Tuesday 2-14 – Happy Valentine’s Day. Back to a :90/:30 interval today. I felt really good today. We took the pace pretty easy and ended up with an average of 11:07 over the 4 mile run.

I have this entry table that I got recently for my house and I’m doing little season decorating things to it, so this evening I switched it out from my Valentine’s set up…

To St. Patrick’s Day. Fun!!

Yoga in the evening again. It might be getting a little easier for some of it although still the plank into downward facing dog and back to plank remains my nemesis. Oh yeah and my wobbly self on tree pose. But I’ll get it eventually!!

Wednesday 2-15 – Core strength again. But progress on holding my side planks. Still not perfect, but getting stronger for sure.

Thursday 2-16 – 4 mile. :90/:30 again and I felt really good during this run. 10:59 average pace.

Friday 2-17 – Rest day. AHHHHHHHH!!!

tumblr_mmgm8f3WQf1r0qp6so1_500.gif

Saturday 2-18 – 8 mile run doing :75/:30. It was just a beautiful morning with low 50 degree to start out. We ran a route we don’t run all that often out to this botanical garden area. We looped around in there and ended up by this old farmstead that was cool. Old schoolhouse and some old cabins.

Feeling my Monarch shirt for sure.

I’m a beautiful butterfly.

Pace ended up at 11:29 but that included a bit of a photoshoot, so I think our actual pace was just a bit over 11. Super happy with that after the challenges of last week.

Hoping for another good one this week as these crazy mile temps continue. Have a great one, friends!

We are getting that crazy weather too - and I noticed that our neighbor's tree has buds! So crazy...I love it!

Glad that you had a good week! I am SO with you on the bike seats - OUCH! I guess that is why good bike shorts have padding...oh and I too am a wobbly tree during yoga. :upsidedow But it must be helpful to do balance stuff like that, right? Strengthens the ankles so we don't roll our ankles as much when running? Or something? That's what I tell myself.

Great job getting that core work in!! And you are rocking that Monarch pullover - isn't that one so pretty? I think it's up there as one of my top-5 favorite pieces.

You guys always have such scenic running routes! And I'm loving your GIFs this week, as usual. ::yes::

I hear ya on the bike seat bum pain, it's why I just could not get into cycling! Hurray for warmer weather too, and cool running routes, and butterfly shirts!!! Sounds like a great week.

OMG, I love the Heimlich gif :) You are a beautiful butterfly!

It is very smart of you to work in photo-shoots into your training. I need to start doing that too. I don't know that I have anything quite so scenic by me...maybe I'll try to find something next time.

PS, if you can stop by my house sometime this week to leave little bowls of green m&ms around, that would be great :)

I am with ya and loving the crazy warm/awesome February weather. 50s in Wisconsin is shorts weather!

Love the Heimlich gif and your outfit!

All those medals are gorgeous!! I'm so jealous of those of you doing Tink and Princess, maybe one day when I'm not teaching and can get that time off work ;)

I really like the Lost Boy t-shirt idea too!!

It's killing me knowing lots of folks are headed off to WDW this week for Princess. That race weekend has never really been a big appeal for me, but I sure wish I was headed to Disney anyway. :D

The medals look so pretty! I especially love the challenge one. Cute idea for your race shirt too!

haha I love it!!!

Those medals really got me even more excited about Tink. Glad you like the shirt ideas!

:worship: You have the best shirt ideas!!

Thanks! I need to figure out how best to use those pictures so they translate well on a shirt.

You HAVE to do this! I love it!

So jealous of all you girls doing tink, the medals are FABULOUS!

I can't wait to go and give a west coast race a try!

I do love my Monarch pullover. So pretty!! And, I also tell myself that I'm getting strong ankles, but not always sure I convince myself fully.

I hear ya on the bike seat bum pain, it's why I just could not get into cycling! Hurray for warmer weather too, and cool running routes, and butterfly shirts!!! Sounds like a great week.

I know why they make those bike seats that way, but man, they hurt! It was an awesome week.

I totally think about taking photos during my runs sometimes so I have them to post on this training journal. :D Those green M&Ms are chocolate mint flavored. YUM.

It's crazy time with the weather, but I am NOT complaining. It's great right??

Musings on Training
Over this weekend on the running thread (I think it was on the running thread) there was some discussion about how many days a week that people run. I have pretty much always been a 3 day a week runner (following Galloway's training schedule) with the exception of some 4 day weeks when training for Goofy. While I've always felt like Galloway has gotten me decently prepared for half marathons, I've almost always struggled in the 5 marathons I've run. Most commonly that's been due to some injury that has sidelined me for part of the training cycle and then I'm playing catch up on mileage.

After reading from several people on the thread that running more days (4-6) per week was really transformational for them and their running, I started trying to think about if I could potentially work in more days running. I really want to be well-prepared for Dopey. Not because I intend to set any PRs, but because I want to feel really good during all 4 races and in my recovery time after. The difficulty for me is honestly figuring out how to fit in more running days. Now, I say that because I'm trying to do more other types of strength/crosstraining this year also in an attempt to be in better physical shape for the training year. Currently here's my schedule.

Sunday - Bike riding (currently on my trainer but planning to transition to outside when weather improves) - afternoon
Monday - Strength/core training - 30-45 minute workout of basic core and light weights - Start at 5 AM
Tuesday - Running 4 miles currently planning to increase to 5 once my pace and fitness gets a bit better - Start at 5 AM
Yoga in the evening after dinner
Wednesday - Repeat of Monday workout - Start 5 AM
Thursday - Repeat of Tuesday run - Start 5 AM
Yoga in the evening after dinner
Friday - Rest day
Saturday - Long run (base mileage of 8 miles and various longer runs building up to target races) - Start 6-7 AM

So, my problem is where to fit in more runs. I will say that I'm a horrible evening runner. After work and dinner and household duties, I'm general not too interested in running, so the few times I have run in the evenings, they have sucked. I think having one true rest day is important as well. And, I definitely want to keep up some time on the bike - not only for the enjoyment of cycling but that I think it will also help me as a runner. So, that means doubling up somehow on some of the other days. Chris and I discussed maybe running before or after our strength training, but that would probably mean an even earlier wake up. I already set my alarm for 4:35 on those days. UGH. So, yeah, what to do???

Ultimately, I'm thinking if we wait until summer when my kids are out of school, I have more time in the morning to get ready, so it likely would make the most sense to add on Monday/Wednesday runs and just take longer to get home and start getting ready for work. I don't know...thoughts from those of you who run more???

I'm in same boat as you so I am "following" to see responses :)

Not enough hours in the day, right? I need to win the lottery so I can quit my job and focus on my training exclusively!!

Or get a time machine of some sort.

I'm afraid that if I had more hours in my day I would just end up sleeping more.
But at least if I was a millionaire with no other responsibilities, I'd wake up bright eyed and ready to go.

Morning running is gonna be a weekend only endeavor for the foreseeable future. But the nice thing about evening running is that once I get it over with, I get to take a shower and then
giphy.gif

You could start practicing bricks with run and bike on Saturdays. My husband says it feels really weird at first. And then you'll be 66.67% ready for your fall ironman :)

-How about alternating weeks with Tues/Thurs/Sat as run days and the following week as Tues/Thurs/Sat/Sun as run days? Although my guess is your Saturday as long run is set in stone more so because of the pace group you run with.

-How about doubling up on your Sunday with a brief morning run and then a bike in the afternoon?

-The other thing to consider is like you said hold off on adding the 4th day of running until the summer. The real Dopey training days don't start until July/August.

I'll add that your current setup seems great to me. I feel as if it will make you an overall healthier person. And who knows, it may also make you a better runner too if you can be really consistent with it. I think one of the ways I get away with 6 days per week of running is that I really (like REALLY) love running. So when I have the choice between another exercise (yoga, strength, bike, etc.) I tend to gravitate to more running.

Not enough hours in the day, right? I need to win the lottery so I can quit my job and focus on my training exclusively!!

I wish. This would be near the top of my list if I did win the lottery.

My two cents...

I think the best I felt during the 4 marathons I have done was during the 2015 Marathon at the end of Dopey. That was using this training plan, which is 4 days per week of running. I did 2 days of something else (strength training and/or yoga).

This is me being a bad training report reader :guilty: but I can't remember - the biking you are doing is to prep for a tri, right? Maybe once Dopey training really ramps up in the fall you axe the bike and Sunday is day 4 of running? Otherwise it seems like you'd have to add it in the evening on a strength training day, assuming you still want to keep doing that twice per week...(EDIT: reading is a good thing to do, just re-read that you're not an evening runner - me either!!)

:confused3:confused3:confused3

I'm a horrible evening runner too so I feel your pain! I tried my best to run 4 days when I was training for Dopey but I know 3 is more manageable... there are not enough days in the week!!

I too hate running in the evenings. So this really won't be helpful, because the only way I could fit 4 runs a week in is to do 2 evenings. I conceded that, as I will ONLY go to the gym in the very early mornings (when it's empty).

I'm so sad
Just got word from our DVC rental place that we lost availability for Poly on one of our days. Oh the tragedy of it all.

giphy.gif

I really am kinda bummed, was hoping to get to stay at Poly, but I guess I'll carry on. I've given her an alternative for hopefully Bay Lake Tower or Boardwalk Villas, so fingers crossed one of those will work out. Seems I read here somewhere that Beach Club studios were already out of availability. I think renting points is going to be a tough one this year.

Availability is just nutso I think. I also decided to check Shades of Green because thought maybe we might just stay there. They also already have some days without availability. BOO!! We might end up off-site after all.

That is so disappointing about Poly. I totally understand your feelings, having lost AKL. All these DVC fillings have me very worried about even getting a normal room on property, since booking isn't technically available yet.:confused3 I have a great TA who gets me awesome deals but said she likely wouldn't know til May
