Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

As you begin your indoor trainer riding, check out Zwift. It's an online training environment which makes riding on a turbo trainer much more enjoyable than staring at a wall.

That looks really cool. I don't think the trainer we have would connect, but Chris has some doohickey (official term) that connects to his bike that has Bluetooth I think. He was already telling me I should get one of those. So maybe with that we could use zwift.

Well, the first couple of weeks were good
February 5 - February 11

Everybody has a down week, right?
So, this week didn't go quite as well as the prior two. Maybe just a bit of a mental letdown and some laziness creeping in. I need to be sure I don't let that become a habit though.

Sunday February 5 - Sundays are for biking I hope! I shared that my pretty little bike is all set up downstairs. I got on it for just a couple of minutes to adjust the tension, etc. But that was it.
Monday February 6 - Core strength work out. I still just stuck to the same set of workouts. Fine really nothing much to talk about here.
Tuesday February 7 - Running. 4 miles today and bumped up the intervals to :75/:30. Not a bad run and it was quite pleasant out. I think about 55 degrees or so, and I was able to run in a skirt and t-shirt. So nice!!! This was a good run and I felt comfortable with the interval. We took it nice and easy though. Pace ended up at 11:04.
Sticking with our plan of yoga on running nights, Chris and I did our 30 minute yoga dvd. I won't say it's easy yet, but I am doing slightly better on some of the poses. I even managed to do tree pose without having to grab onto something to keep from falling over. That stupid triangle pose and those planks into downward dog and back to plank are murder for me!!! My upper body is pathetic, people. PATHETIC!!

Wednesday February 8 - Core strength planned. I had a hard time sleeping and frankly just didn't want to get up, so I didn't. Then by afternoon I was feeling really bad about not doing it, so I just did it at home that evening. I even upped the weights a bit for my arms.
Thursday February 9 - The weather here is drunk, y'all. After mid-50s on Tuesday morning, the temp was 21 with a wind chill of 11 when I woke up Thursday morning. So, yeah, I pulled a big ole NEWP out and didn't run. Shame on me!!

giphy.gif
I had decided I'd run on the treadmill at my sister's that night instead and then didn't do that because Chris suggested we run on Friday morning instead. We did though do our yoga again, so at least I wasn't a total failure for the day.
Friday February 10 - And...the run didn't happen. I just said no. :(
Saturday February 11 - And this time the drunk weather worked in our favor. Highs on Saturday were set for the mid-70s!!

frozen-samme-mejias-6.gif

Woohoo, right? Chris had to do some litter patrol with the Kiwanis club, so we just decided to run a bit later. Plan was to run 10 miles at a :60/:30 interval. We headed out on the run around 10:30 and pretty quickly I realized my body was not so used to running in 70 degree weather. By mile 3, I was telling Chris that 10 miles just wasn't going to happen. I was having a major mental struggle. We also didn't hydrate well in advance and only brought electrolyte drinks with us and no water. Just poor planning on our part. Regardless, Chris convinced me to keep going and I did, but we put in some major walking time for the last few miles. We did manage to complete 9 miles with a pace of 13:02. Just one of those bad runs, I guess. Maybe the combination of the suddenly warmer temps and running later in the day did it to me. Blech. I don't know but I was not only shot from the run, I was just shot for the day. We didn't even do our yoga that night. Not a good week.

But, it's a new week this week, right? And what does Edna say? I never look back, darling. Onward to this week - off to a good start so far, so just need to keep it up!!!

OMG-I am loving your Dis Gifs! (what does gifs stand for btw?!?)

Seems like you are doing good considering the weather being so crazy ZellyB. And you're quite flexible with the changes in your schedule and moving things around.
I just love Edna! She totally makes me smile-kinda like you Darlin!

We've got the drunk weather here, too - but not like yours. Mid-70s, wow! That is a huge change after being used to winter temperatures so I think it makes sense that your body just wasn't having it.

We all have those weeks - I know you'll get back to it! ::yes::

The weather is DRUNK! What the hey? Why was it in the 50's in Chicago this weekend? WHY? And then I felt like my fingers were going to fall off this morning from frost.

Maybe the weather has switched from light beer to trying whiskeys/bourbons for its new years resolution. The weather has gone hipster. Only explanation!

I'm all about the Gifs! I had no idea what it stood for, but Google tells me it stands for "graphics interchange format". Who knew? Google knew! Edna is the best!!

I'm going to tell myself my body just wasn't ready to adapt. It honestly was just a glorious day though. I really shouldn't complain when it's the middle of February. And temps are forecast to stay pretty mild through the rest of the month, so yay!

You are completely right. Dang hipsters ruin everything.

If it makes you feel any better, your "bad" run would be a great run for me! Also - that Lilo gif is me after every run.

I feel like Lilo a lot too. And, I hesitate sometimes to say my pace because I know that my slow runs can be faster than for other folks - and when I see the paces a lot of other people run on here I feel like I should be trying to go faster. I really need to not get so hung up on pace a lot of times because it's not like I'm planning to win any races. The important thing is we get out there, right? And I really do enjoy myself - most of the time. :D

It's such a tough balance. I am worried about my pace for my 1st half (Princess) and my hubby kindly reminded me that out of 20K runners, only 1 will win (and it won't be me), so I should enjoy the miles and not compare myself to others. Nice thought, but SO hard to do.

He's right, though. Before my first marathon, our training team had a dinner to which some of the elite runners had been invited. During his pep talk to us about the race to come, the head coach pointed at them and told us except for three of them, they'll all get the same medal for completing the race as we will. Good way to remind us to run our own race and not get caught up in what other people can do.

Bad weeks happen, and it looks like you know that you need it not to become the normal. Don't beat yourself up over to much as long as you get moving in the right direction again this week. I had nearly 3 months of illness and excuses. It has been a very unpleasant return to running. Wouldn't advise it! I probably should look into doing yoga and some upper body stuff as well. I am very goofy so someone should record any attempt I make at yoga on how not to do something. lol
Good luck this week!

Right? Why do we do that to ourselves? And, I know it's silly and yet find myself falling into that trap a lot.

I guess it's just that internal drive that we have as runners that makes us think we always need to compete to do better - even if it is just against ourselves. It's finding the balance of pushing yourself to do better without beating yourself up when things don't go quite the way you'd like.

Just keep swimming (running) right? I've also been in that situation where an injury/illness forced me off running for an extended period and the come back was so not fun. That's a big part of what keeps me going sometimes is just knowing I don't want to have to come back after any extended breaks.

In other good news, while updating my spreadsheet for my running schedule, I realized I was mistaken about our planned mileage this past weekend. We were only supposed to run 8 and not 10. So, the 9 miles we did - ugly as they may have been - was actually better than I had planned. I'll call it a success. Lemonade from lemons, folks!!

TINKERBELL UPDATE!!!
They just revealed the medals for the Tinkerbell race weekend and I'm super happy about them!!

rdt34534563465.jpg

Super happy to see Pan and the Lost Boys here on the 10K medal. I really didn't want all Tinkerbell stuff even though I realize she's the namesake. I really like the shape of the medal and where they've placed the characters on it. I also really like the half medal and the Pixie Dust Challenge as well. I like all the colors and seems in line with the concept art surrounding the race. The green and blue is fun!!

I have serious envy over that Hook and Smee 5K medal, but I guess I'll just have to live with that little bit of disappointment. I'll survive I'm sure. ;)

I've also been giving some thought to what to wear for the races. I had pretty well decided to not do anything special for the 10k and just wear some of my normal running clothes. That's still up for discussion though. I even considered not doing a custom shirt for this race since I wasn't sure I had any good ideas and Tinkerbell doesn't really inspire me. But then one day, I was like, "But I've never done a Disney race without a custom shirt", so I decided I needed to come up with something. So, I decided rather than doing something with Tinkerbell, I'd focus on Pan, pirates or Lost Boys and finally decided I thought something with the Lost Boys and a reference to not growing up might be the ticket. So, the idea is not fully formed, but thinking about using this picture and Text

images

'Cause Growing up is Awfuller

Than all the Awful Things that Ever Were

I'm not fully settled on the picture yet and I've got a few others saved as well that are possibilities. It's not quite fully clicking for me, so I'm open to suggestions from the peanut gallery. :D

My intent was to wear that shirt for the half though and now I'm thinking it's better suited to the 10K because of the medal. So, now maybe I do need to think up two shirts. Hmmmmmm. What to do. What to do.

All those medals are gorgeous!! I'm so jealous of those of you doing Tink and Princess, maybe one day when I'm not teaching and can get that time off work ;)

I really like the Lost Boy t-shirt idea too!!
