Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

I'm pretty stoked about our resort options. Now just have to hope we score one of them.
I'm pretty sure you said you were using DVC rental store, I put in a request with them too for the first time, is it that unlikely to not get a room? I was kind of going with the assumption that 11 months out wourld pretty much guarantee me a room, is that an erroneous thought on my part?

No honestly I'm not expecting it to be a problem. I'm just paranoid that way.

I know when we first requested Beach Club for this past marathon weekend, it didn't come through right away (although I think we were more like 10 months out at that point) and she had warned me that might be a tough one to get, but then within a week or so we had it, so who knows.

How's your plantar faciatis? I'm hoping you say better than I'll know there's hope :) Anyway who does yoga is amazing, it's soooooo hard! Looks like you are off to a great start to the year!

It is better. I won't say it's 100% resolved, but it really doesn't bother me on my runs generally. I had that flare up during the marathon, but it was better by the next day. I've been a slacker too about continuing the things that help - like the torture sock and my stretches. I suspect if I'd get serious about that again I could get it completely resolved. Anyway, there's hope! Compared to where I was several months ago it's so much better!!!

Have you seen any improvement yet?

@DopeyBadger has a kindred spirit

His spreadsheets put mine to shame! I aspire to DopeyBadger spreadsheet prowess!

Yay spreadsheets!

How do you track your training plans? I have a calendar in Google Drive, but it's not actually the most useful thing. I'd love to see more examples :)

I also really need to focus more on strength stuff - but it's so boring...and also I hate being sore :P

But good for you on getting everything done!

I highly recommend using Training Peaks. You can load all of your workouts into the system, see how well you did against them after you upload your data, and dig into all kinds of useful data and statistics to measure and learn about your performance. It's a very popular tool amongst athletes with coaches, but it's also very good for those who want to load it with plans from Higdon, Galloway, etc.

Glad to hear you are doing better with it. Mine is improving I think as for awhile by the end of the day my heal was so 'tired' it made my ankle 'tired'. Now it just has dull throbs in the heal by the end of the day and not nearly as bad. Yeah it's hard to keep up on stretching & stuff, I make a point to stretch and massage my foot before getting up in the morning and then just randomly throughout the day, but yeah as it hurts less it's easy to forget to keep up on it. And if I feel the heal pain I do a little ART (active release therapy) on it and it helps, of course I look strange all of sudden just smushing my heal! It's funny cause I'll read where someone says they did one thing and it was like magically better in a day, I'm like that sounds hokey as this seems to be a slow healer, as I've read 6 months or more. Doesn't seem to matter either if I run or not. Good to hear there is hope! And way to goregistering for Dopey, I'm 'just' planning to sign up for the marathon.

Forgot to add, I'm returning my Superfeet green inserts. I really don't know if they help or not & they are harder than I like and my shoes have been squeaking & finally made the connection it's the inserts doing it, it was driving me batty since it was so loud. Just thought I'd share.

I can't figure out how to attach a file to this to show you my schedule. GRRR. Anyway, A sample of the headings an what I enter:

Date Day Planned Activity Galloway Schedule Dopey Schedule Miles Run Interval Pace Shoe - Rainbow 2

So, the actual date and then the day of the week and then what I'm doing (run/core/yoga etc). Galloway schedule is for the mileage that out Galloway group will be doing and then what we need to be doing to prepare for Dopey is the next one. The the miles that we are running followed by the interval we ran and then pace. The shoe one is where I track total mileage on the shoes I'm currently running in.

Oh, and I know on one of the other threads there was some discussion about planning out an entire year, but really it's a series of maybe 3-4 month training plans because I have some target races scattered throughout the year. So, I plan the mileage mostly in building up to any individual race and then sort of start over with prepping for the next - if any of that makes sense!

ETA: I think I figured out how to attach a PDF file. Hopefully this works - attached at the bottom

I used this for a time and it is a really slick program, but then they started charging I think for some of the functionality I liked, so I went back to my spreadsheet.

Congrats on planning for "just" the marathon. ;)

Sorry those inserts didn't work out. The ones I use are fairly soft, so they've worked okay for me. I would not like something that was really stiff and hard. And squeaky shoes would drive me nuts as well!

I DO NOT BEND LIKE BECKHAM!!
January 29 - February 4

Week two of my new minted training regimen was a success!

January 29 - I shared earlier that I started the new yoga program. So, yeah, this beginner program is really hard for me. :sad1: A very clear indication that I truly am as stiff and inflexible as I believed myself to be. This is basically how I feel while watching the woman on the video and trying to do the same.

But, hey, I'm trying right??? And eventually I'll get better.

January 30 - Continued strength training. I'm happy to announce that my stomach muscles did not try to revolt against me during the ab section this time. Improvement, my friends. Improvement. Little do they know that in another week or so, I'll be intensifying things. SHHHHHH!!!

January 31 - Next step in increasing pace and intervals today. Moved to :75/:30 intervals for the shorter weekday runs. We had a guy join us who doesn't run with us that often and he's much faster than the rest of us, so that also led to some increased speed. 4 miles at a 10:44 pace. Felt good though!

I'm also doing yoga in the evenings of my running days. I figure the stretching part is good to do on a day after I've run. No easier, but I still did it. Chris did it after me as well. It's funny because he struggles too, but some of the ones I can do easier are harder for him and vice versa.

February 1 - Yay for February. Always feels like winter is on the way out once we get to February. I mean it's a short month and then it's March which around here signals at least some beginning to warm up in temps. The same strength workout again today. Need to increase the weights on my arms soon, I think.

February 2 - Groundhog day!!! - He saw his shadow. What does he know??? He can't even drive without an assist!

:75/:30 again today, but our speedy guy wasn't there so we slowed down some again. 4 miles at 10:59 pace. Good run, but oh so chilly. Brrrr. Stupid groundhog. :(

Yoga again this evening. Still no easier, but I must say I do feel better after I get done with it. Maybe all that OHM stuff actually works. Although I think these yoga poses would also help me relax a lot.

February 3 - Rest day!!!! Most awesome day of the week.

February 4 - Long run day. My plan calls for slower intervals on the long runs as we work toward slowly increasing overall pace. So, we left this run with a :60/:30 interval. Chilly morning again, but once we were on the move it wasn't bad at all as far as temps go, but boy, I was not feeling this run. I was just sluggish and not enjoying myself. But, ya know, those happen right. Once the sun came up, though, it really was a pretty morning. We run these through one of my favorite neighborhoods with some ponds populated with geese and swans. Lovely.

Silly swan ducked her head in the water just as I took the shot and I didn't realize it until later.

See? Gorgeous morning. We finally got the run completed as planned, but I definitely slowed down a bit from where things had been. But, whatever, got it in the books. 8 miles running :60/:30 with an 11:35 pace.

We were having friends over for a Superbowl party on Sunday, so the rest of Saturday was spent grocery shopping and getting things ready. Although we did take time to take the kids out for Mexican food at our favorite local hole. Ugh. I ate WAY too
many chips there!!!

February 5 - Yes, this is officially the next week, but wanted to give you a sneak peek of the next thing I'm working to add into the routine.

IMG_3625_zpslqodj35x.jpg

Chris got my bike set up on the trainer in the basement. We didn't get this done until late on Sunday shortly before our guests were set to arrive, so I didn't have time to do much except get on it and set the tension, but I'm planning to start working some time in on the bike. First on the trainer so I get comfortable with it again and then hopefully when the weather improves we can start heading out on the road with it.

That's it for last week's training update, friends. Have a great one!!

@CheapRunnerMike would enjoy this! He loves his pictures of bikes... :D

That beer yoga GIF is perfection! True skill to not even spill the beer. ::yes::

I hate Groundhog Day. I feel like it gives me false hope every year! :( But good point about February being a sign that spring is almost here!! Very glass half-full of you!

That pond looks lovely and I really hope you are right about February being the turnaround point for weather. Sometimes I feel like winter lasts until June around here.

We have one of those trainer things in our basement too, but it has a big ol' tall man bike on it and it's comical to watch me try to even tippy toe touch the pedals. One of these days I may be brave enough to get a bike my size and ask him to set it up.
So how many shorts with butt pads have you invested in? :)

I guess the running contributes to the lack of flexibility. It's serious got to be hilarious watching me try to do some of this stuff!

Yes! The false hope of Groundhog Day. It's actually supposed to be pretty warm around here this week, which will get us to almost the middle of February and then it's nearly March! See how I do that?? ;)

I bought that bike like 4 years ago and have never ridden it consistently. It's really a waste, so I have to be better this year. I actually only have one set of butt pad shorts - and it's actually a skirt with shorts underneath it. I totally don't understand the whole "seat is as hard as a rock thing so wear these pads in your pants instead" logic. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but I don't get it.

Oooohhhh! Pretty bike

Thanks! My husband and a friend of his who is big into bikes sort of convinced me I needed this really nice bike (and it really is nice) and then I feel guilty that I've let it just sit and get dusty in the garage.
