Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

Glad you had a good 8-miler and that Chris got back out there!

Can't believe we're getting so close...

I know!! I'm starting to panic a bit about being sure I've got packing lists ready and all our reservations and documents squared away. But I can't wait!!!!

Really love the RDP! I feel like the excitement for all of you gearing up for marathon weekend, and it's making me excited for you guys! :D

Villain shot is the best. I'm starting to have a hard time thinking about anything else. :D

Glad you got the 8-miler in. Lives always seem to get in the way of running ;)

Our magicbands came last week. 20 days until we arrive, I can't believe how close we are.

I think our magicbands should arrive today or tomorrow. WOOHOO!!!!

I know!! I'm starting to panic a bit about being sure I've got packing lists ready and all our reservations and documents squared away. But I can't wait!!!!
I've started collecting some things and putting them on top of my suitcase (coffee creamer, peanut butter, stuff like that)...

TAPER TIME!!!

Sorry for the big wall of text!
And finally we finish up with our last really long training runs in anticipation of Goofy weekend. We managed to pull off our 10/20 mile back to back run and it feels so good to have them done. We did our normal 4 mile training run on Tuesday and were planning to do our 10 and 20 on Saturday and Sunday. But, as we watched the forecast and the arctic blast headed in late Saturday, we decided instead to run the 10 miler on Friday before work and then run the 20 on Saturday before the cold moved in.

Friday morning the alarm went off at 3:30 AM :faint: and we headed out at 4 in 25 degree weather. Windchill was around 17 I think. We ran our normal training route x 2 with some extra loops and managed our 10 miles in pretty normal pace feeling pretty good. When we got home, I headed up to get into a warm tub and prepare for work. My legs were very cold and tingly and when I submerged into the tub, they suddenly started to burn and hurt and turned like lobster red!! I had to climb out and just massage them vigorously with a towel until the pain and color subsided. I guess maybe it was just the blood rushing back into my legs?? Whatever it was, it was crazy and painful. Obviously needed to bundle up a bit better on my bottom half than I had.

Friday night we had friends who came into visit and stay the night, so we had a lovely steak dinner night out and headed to bed around 10:30. LONG DAY!! So, when the alarm went off the next morning at 4:00 so we could be on the run by 5:00 with a plan to be done before the temps got too cold, I was NOT wanting to get out of bed to run 20 miles. We did get started around around 5:15. Temps were around low 40s with not much wind, so we were pretty comfortable starting out. Our plan was to run around 14 and then meet up with our visiting friend who wanted to run the last 5 or 6 with us. My legs were a bit tired from the 10 mile run, but really not too bad and I felt pretty good for the first 7 or 8 miles, but boy, then did my mind start to object. I wanted to be done!!! The temps had dropped and it was just sort of foggy and misty and I was getting cold and wet. As we finally were getting close to meeting up with our friend, I told Chris I might just call it good at 14 and he could finish with our friend. Chris was having NONE of that. He said I'd be mad at myself if I stopped and we were going to finish. After meeting our friend and heading back out, the next few miles went by quickly and easily as having a new person with us to talk to helped the miles go by quickly. Around mile 18 or so, I was getting pretty tired, so we definitely walked a bit more, but we did finish the 20 miles up and it felt sooooo good to be done.

While I wish I were feeling stronger, getting this weekend behind me gives me a lot more confidence for completing Goofy. Legs are sore today, but not terrible, so I hope that bodes well for enjoyment of our vacation after the races. Getting these in the mail also help make me happier too!

Getting so close now!!! And it's time for taper madness, so in anticipation of my paranoia about every sniffle or sneeze from now until we leave, I stocked Emergen-C. Can't wait for the trip and the race!!!

Congratulations on your big running weekend! That 10 miler sounds like it was in pretty brutal conditions temperature wise! Good luck on your taper and I'm sending you stay healthy vibes!

HEALTH UPDATE FOR CHRIS
So, remember that scare a little while back about Chris' heart and getting the all clear on his cardiac health? Well, after my little Christmas dinner (with a pretty rich menu), Chris got sick in the middle of the night. My first fear was that I had managed to poison Chris and all the other dinner guests in some way. :scared1: But, after assessing my own tummy and texting my friends, we realized it was just Chris who got sick. I was sharing it with a friend at work when he said, "Ya know, it could be his gallbladder". Aha!! I hadn't thought about that originally since his irregular EKG sent us off on the cardiac tangent, but the chest pains he was having and now the stomach issues could certainly be signs of a gallbladder problem.

Chris had an ultrasound on Friday and we are currently waiting for his doctor to call him with results, but based on the things the ultrasound tech hinted at, we are feeling pretty sure it's his gallbladder now. So, that would likely mean a quick laproscopic procedure to remove the stupid thing. Most people I talked to who have had it done say the recovery is practically non-existent and he'll likely be back to normal within a few days. We are hoping to hear from his doctor today and if it IS his gallbladder maybe get him in for surgery quickly. This would hopefully have him back to normal by the trip - plus take advantage of the fact that we already met our deductible for this year.

Hard to know what to wish for at this point. I feel bad that he might have to have surgery, but also relieved if this is truly the cause of his problems and with hopefully an easy fix. Just hoping we can get things resolved in time for the trip.

Did I mention how much 2016 hates me?

2016 has been rough-BUT it's almost over! party:

Best to Chris! Let him know he has a bunch of Disers sending good vibes, hugs and prayers his way!

Oh boy! 2016 has been rough for you guys. I hope everything is okay even if he needs surgery. Gullbladder surgery isn't too bad these days they can usually have you in and out in no time.

How's this for a quick update? He's headed into the hospital now to get preadmitted for surgery around 5 PM. The surgeon who is going to do it said today was really his best day and since Chris hadn't eaten since an early breakfast, he'd fit him in at the end of his surgery schedule today. So, yikes for the speed of it, but good that he'll have it done and plenty of time to recover before the trip.

Wow, that moved quickly. Wishing Chris the best of luck with the surgery!

Wow, good luck to Chris. This seems almost as fast as the emergency appendectomy I had years ago. Hopefully he recovers quickly.

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone. He came through with flying colors. It helps that I work in the hospital and know some folks who helped to grease the wheels for a quick surgery. Luckily the particular surgeon who did it was on-call last night anyway, so he just tacked Chris onto the end of his regular schedule. He knew that we had the race coming up and wanted to get the surgery done as soon as possible to give Chris as much recovery time as possible. Four little incisions and a few hours later and we were home and ready for bed by 10 PM. Incredible really. He's feeling well today just still a bit tired and tender. Doctor said two days of easy rest and recovery and then he could do a little test run just down to the end of the driveway and back. Said it that felt okay that the next day he could do an easy 1 mile run and if no problems there then back to normal running but taking it easy until the race. Since we are slow anyway and it's taper time, we said should be no problem. PHEW!!!

:dogdance: Glad to hear the update and that everything looks good! So maybe this is the start of a great 2017!

Thank you and yes, maybe this marks a turning point!!

Wow! I'm happy you were able to take of Chris's problem so quickly! I'm amazed that after two days of rest, he can do an easy test run. Fingers crossed after heals up quickly!

It's crazy, right? He did tell him no core work or anything that would strain his abdominal muscles and no lifting anything over 20 lbs for two weeks. Said he could tear an internal suture and end up with a hernia later. But, really he said just to use common sense and listen to his body in regards to a return to running.

Oh wow that's a crazy whirlwind, but glad he had surgery fast & should be good for Goofy! Here's to hoping 2017 is blessed with only wonderful for you guys!

This has been a crazy end of 2016. Thank you all for the well wishes, I truly appreciate it. I am still a bit sore but all things considered I am in pretty good shape for the shape I am in. I went for a two mile walk on Dec 24 and I am going to go for our normal Tuesday run in the AM so we will see how that goes. It is still pretty sore on my right side when I take a deep breath so I am interested to see how tomorrow goes. Once again thank you all for the good thoughts!!
