Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

You're awesome ZellyB! I mean, really awesome! When I think of all you have been through in the last several years (your diagnosis of breast cancer, your treatment, surgery and chemo), the races you've run and are planning to run are simply amazing to me. I don't want to get all up in your business but I just wanted to kind of list it all here for you to see. You've come a long way baby!

I had no idea as well! I've enjoyed your trip reports so much and your distance (and speed!) has always been inspiring to me. To know the obstacles that you have overcome is incredible. Thanks so much for sharing your running journey with us!

And I'm sorry you had to cut back to the half, but you seem to have an incredibly healthy attitude about it. You are still doing amazing things! And yeah, before you know it you will be running GOOFY!!! :dogdance:

RANDOM STUFF
:P
My self-imposed resting continues. Blah. So, I'm a little over a week since I last ran and while my foot is improving it is slooooooooooooow. It's still pretty tender and just not improving at the rate I would have hoped. My original plan was to continue resting but then go ahead with the group run on Saturday, but I think I will likely give it an additional week beyond that. I've got no concerns right now at my ability to finish the local half marathon, so probably best to take another week right now before trying to get back into regular training. Hoping that the additional week of rest will do the trick.

Chris thought maybe I could do the elliptical to keep some activity going without impact. Anybody know if the elliptical would continue to aggravate the PF? So, yeah, I've been mostly being a bit lazy bump on a log in regards to exercise. If I don't do the elliptical, I think I need to at least attack some core work and who knows, maybe that yoga thing I've been threatening to try for years now. :-)

In trip news, I'm still waiting and hoping to see the BCV studios occupancy finally change to 5 instead of 4 so I can add my son to it. From what I read the refurbishments are done and they are on the final punch lists, so I'm keeping fingers crossed that it changes soon. I'm told I can add someone on up to 30 days before the trip, so I still have some time. We are also not so patiently waiting to see if Disney is going to renew the Military Salute tickets. We've used those the last several years and they are really a fantastic bargain, but no word on a renewal yet, and I'm getting worried that maybe this year they will let it lapse. With only 37 days left until FP+ day, I'm quickly running out of time. We can still buy the regular discounted tickets, but they aren't as steeply discounted as the Salute tickets. So, I anxiously wait for some word on that...

I've posted some on the Tinkerbell thread as well that I'm trying to figure out a way to convince my husband to either come with me and do the Pixie Dust Challenge or let me go solo and do it. I'm mostly struggling with the guilt of being gone on Mother's Day weekend and, of course, the cost of the trip. But, I've badly wanted to try a race at Disneyland and if we do it this year we would also get a Coast to Coast medal. With next year being a plan for Dopey, I'm thinking our pocketbook might more easily appreciate two Disney race weekends in 2017 rather than 2018. He showed some minor interest in it when I hinted at it last week, so maybe I can get him convinced.

That's about it for me right now, but we did have a fun and busy weekend. We headed up to KC to visit Chris' folks and to take in a game at Arrowhead stadium, home of our beloved Chiefs!! We took Drake and Paige (Sophie is not much of a football fan - so she stayed at Grandma's house).

On the way in

Cloudy and cool with some drizzle, but an otherwise great day and a great win for the Chiefs!!

I'm sorry that you're still on hiatus! The worst thing ever, but it's smart to do and fully recover in time for your local half and for GOOFY!

Did you rent your points through DVC Request? I may need to add someone to my reservation as well, so I was wondering about how to do that. I hope the BCV changes their info soon, that is annoying that you know it has changed and now you just have to wait! Hope you get some good news on the tickets, too.

You know my feelings on Tink. :teeth:

Oh man I hope you can get back going soon.

I would think the DVC rooms should be upgraded to 5 and I am surprised they haven't changed that yet. Disney is slow with most things these days though.

I worked the Packer game this Sunday so we were both at NFL stadiums on this weekend.

I would love to do a DL race but they aren't the best with my schedule. I think the only one I could make work is Star Wars light side. I hope you can convince Chris!

Doing PDC would be awesome-- especially to get that coast to coast medal! Hope your DH comes gets on board with it-- and if you do manage to convince him of this brilliant idea will you give me tips on how to convince mine?? ;)

Hope your extra week of rest is all your foot needs. I really wish I had the fitness level right now to be able to run a half whenever I wanted-- way to go!

And how fun to go to a Chiefs game! My seven year old son is getting reeeeally into football lately-- he would think he died and gone to heaven if we took him to an NFL game :)

I'm mostly struggling with the guilt of being gone on Mother's Day weekend

When I registered last year I didn't even realize it was Mother's Day weekend until a month before. I felt so guilty too! We ended up doing Mother's Day when we got back a couple days later and everyone was happy. I hope you get to run Tink, DL is so amazing!!

I fee like I need to put some of these here...

:tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:

Growing up my mom always worked at a hospital, which never lends itself to celebrating holidays on actual holidays. So mother's day was whenever she decided it would be. Made going to brunches so much easier on days when everyone else wasn't trying to do the same thing. So I guess what I am saying is...if you celebrate mother's day on some other earlier day, it's still mother's day...then you actually get TWO mother's day. One with your family and one with us crazy runners. Then when you get back you might as well do one more mother's day for good measure! Maybe just have mother's month :)

We rented through DVC Rental Store (am I allowed to say that here??) Anyway, I emailed the woman who has been my contact through them for the reservation. She told me once I can add him on that I just email her and she'll contact the member and have them add him to the reservation. Seemed simple enough if I can just get DVC to finish up already and change the occupancy. She told me I could do it up to 30 days before the trip though, so I still have a decent amount of time.

Yeah, I'm not sure why since they are just on final punch list items that they can't go ahead and change the occupancy already. It's frustrating, but hopefully soon! Fun for working the Packer game. What do you do there? Just fan assistance kind of thing?

I need to get him cornered again and talk to him. I probably need to get him to go out for some drinks and get him loosened up and then work him over. ;) And, my fitness level isn't typically where I can just run a half, but I've gotten far enough into our training schedule that I feel like I can do it. It won't be a PR or anything, but I can finish it.

NFL games are so much fun (we used to have season tickets), but the cost is so exorbitant that we only do it occasionally now as a treat.

I really don't think my kids would care at all. Last year Mother's Day was a bit of a bust for me. :( It's more my internal guilt that's at issue.

Two Mother's Days (or Mother's Month) feels like the perfect solution to my internal angst!!
:tinker:

Internal mom guilt is a real thing! But whenever I vocalize it to my husband or family, they are all like "Don't worry, Stop worrying", but then the next thing comes up and my internal mom guilt switch goes back on. I totally get it.

But also...

I got an email yesterday from militarydisneytips.com (the go-to source for me on all Disney related Military offers) that Disney renewed their Armed Forces Salute tickets for 2017!! party:

The price went up slightly from previous years (which is to be expected), but it is still such a great deal. I really appreciate that Disney provides this fantastic discount for military members. We can purchase 4-day hopper passes for $209.00 (a phenomenal discount). I can buy them through Shades of Green if we provide proof of eligibility and they come to us already activated and we just have to link them to our MDE account. So, I should be able to get them in time for our 60 day FP+ window. I'm totally psyched about it. We won't need to use it, but they also offer a great room discount rate, although the availability of resorts is restricted. But you can get 40% of deluxe, 35% off moderate and 30% off value. As I've discussed, we are renting DVC this year, but I still think that's a fantastic deal. However, if we end up doing Tink I should be able to maybe apply a discount if we stay at a DL hotel. And given the prices I've seen for those hotels for that time of year, I think we'd need it!!!

Thanks, Disney!!!! In honor, here's my favorite picture of my favorite veteran!

Why do we do that to ourselves?? I'm telling you my kids couldn't care less about if I'm here for Mother's Day. :sad2:

Just wanted to pop in and say

:tinker:

(Also, did you see those Lust capris??)

UGGGGGG. Yes, I saw them. I'm currently trying to resist. I've spent so much on InB lately and if I'm going to convince Chris to do Tink I think I need to be a little more restrained. But, it's hard! Those are so pretty!!!!

They are. I couldn't resist the purple. :)

Ummm, I googled what you all were talking about. I'm kind of loving that cherry blossom shirt because it kind of seems like it would look purty up against a certain castle! With fairy wings of course. hmmmmmmmm (It's too early to be thinking about this, this is how I get in trouble)

Where's my wallet? (someone hide my wallet)

Somehow I missed your update about the military discounts - that is FANTASTIC news! And an amazing price on the tickets for sure! That would be so great to be able to apply that discount to DL hotels, the prices are indeed INSANE!!

Yay! I'm so happy that Disney offers these discounts to military families!!

Haha, I understood you :)
BTW right now I'm wearing my giant two-sizes too big work pants because I did not feel like doing laundry last night. So technically, today, I'm not that well-dressed!
