Handling the Florida heat

We are sweaters too, you can try all these things but you'll still be sweating thru your clothes like the rest of us ;)
We still can't tell if in our AK picture our shirts are drenched because of sweat or because we just rode Kali lol

Never, ever wear a plain cotton shirt, only wear moisture wicking shirts!

We always plan late lunches and save indoor activities from 2-6 PM. If I can stay indoors for that 4 hour time block, the rest of the day is tolerable.

So we are traveling in the end of August. My wife doesn't want my son missing any school so this is the best time for us to go. The issue is that I am a sweater. So I am trying to come up with ideas on how to contain this issue so that I don't look like a giant puddle. What does everyone suggest. I have heard people mention those cooling towels, but I cant remember their names. I have read the obvious suggestions of taking breaks, staying in the AC, and hydrating but what else? We will have several bottles of water and towels to help me look presentable for pictures but any other suggestions?
One of the easiest tricks is to drink a lot of water the week before you go and stay hydrated while there. The frogg toggs towels get too heavy for me. Tried them one year and stayed cool for 5 mins.... threw it out after that. Moisture wicking clothes and socks if you wear shoes.

Casey Jr Splash & Soak at MK!!!! No joke my kiddo wanted me to run thru the water with him, so- I did, and I was soaked from head to toe. We had so much fun and it was a great cool off!!!
The other parks all had some kind of splash area as well.

We also bought one of the water fans, I didn't use it, but was great for him!

I'm going to chime in with the previous posters on the moisture wick fabric! Under Armour or Nike.

Have a wonderful trip!!!

OP. It looks like you've received a lot of good ideas from other posters. The only other thing that I would add is to go ahead and use some of these suggestions, but no matter what the results don't let a little sweating ruin your fun. You certainly will not be the only one sweating from the heat. If you look around you there will be sweaty people, tired people, people with hair that doesn't do well in the humidity, and women having issues with makeup in the heat. On our last trip my wife got an ice cream cone on Main Street that she attempted to eat while walking across the park. It was so hot that it started dripping faster than she could lick it up. She ended up with ice cream running down her shirt and shorts. She cleaned herself up in the bathroom as good as she could but was still a little self conscious. Like I told her, there may be a few people that noticed, but she probably would never see any of them again in her life, and she did enjoy her ice cream, so it was worth it.:)

my opinion is that the water bottle fans are a good idea in theory but after lugging it around for one day i ditched it.

and i'm usually not annoyed by this because i don't mind a little mist here and there but some children/adults pay no attention to guests around them and just spray away.
its a fan that you are spraying water with. its going to fly all over not just on you.
(certainly not saying your child was like that. i'm just generalizing that SOME people do it)

I wore my hair in a pony, and no makeup, almost everyday!

We rented a stroller, so didn't have that issue...but we would also leave the stroller parked for an hour or more at a time, and kiddo took that fan everywhere. He held it so close to his face that I don't think it would be possible to spray on anyone else. That fan was a life saver! (Or at least a solution to stop the complaining lol)

As far as lugging it around-
I use a day pack while at theme parks, so when he got tired of holding it I just put it in there. Sometimes in the evening I'll use a cross body bag, but for as much as they get set down- I'd rather not ruin one.

Just adding to everyone's suggestions:
Plan outdoor attractions in the morning and/or late evening
Plan indoor attractions from 11am to 5pm
Walk through gift shops as much as possible
Dunk your arms, all the way to your elbow if possible in cold/ice water. You can use the big coolers where they keep the water fans and drinks. The veins on your wrists are closest to the surface of your skin so any cool water or ice there will cool you down faster.
Drink water constantly, I mean constantly, have a cup of ice water with you as much as possible, they give them for free in all quick service locations.
Lastly don't feel self conscious you will NOT be the only one sweating bullets.

No matter how hydrated you think you are, drink more water, then some more.

Bathrooms are air conditioned. Remember that. Sometimes it's so worth it.

Don't worry about being sweaty, everyone is sweaty. If someone is not sweaty walking around WDW in August, keep an eye on them. They may be an extra-terrestrial

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Start drinking steadily in the days leading up to your trip, so you'll be nice and hydrated from Day 1. Also since you'll be sweating a lot, make sure to mix it up from time to time with a flavored sports drink to replenish your electrolytes.

Hats and sunglasses are your best friends. I have a mop of hair (a lion mane, really), so I like to put it up in a bun to keep it up and out of my way.

If you are concerned about pictures, take notice of the color of your clothes.

Heather gray shirts show sweat almost instantly.

Take a shirt and splash a little water on them if you want to see how much the sweat will show

Those fans do work. Just don't get too wet or the wet shirt will just stick to you get warm and make it worse.

The looks on everyone's face is much more important than the sweaty shirt you are wearing.

Also, you should wear a moisture wicking out fit before you bring them to Florida. Some people think they are really hot. You don't want to be surprised when you get there.

Please don't dunk your arms in the ice....some of us buy that bottled water floating in that ice. Just take a piece of ice and rub it on the back of your neck and wrists.

Water parks during the day, actual parks in the evening. That's always been my plan for August.

I should have probably said to wash your arms after dunking them in the ice water because the water that they use to make that ice that goes into the big buckets is not filtered, so if you are concerned with germs you should probably wash the outside of the bottle of water.

So when you say sweater I think of someone who is really hairy, like they have a sweater on? Is that what you mean? If so then shave or at least clipper it! I mean I am all for the Magnum Pi look but in that heat shave it off!

I could be wrong, though I have never heard that term for anything other than being extra hairy. lol

My best advice is wear more white and grey is not white. I'm the most comfortable in the sun in white and miserable in anything else. Also pay attention to yourself, if your clothing is showing the first signs of being sweaty, its time to take a break in the a/c and cool down, get some free ice water from counter service. If it's the animal kingdom, good luck. That park has nowhere to hide.

They are saying they perspire a lot when warm/hot. I agree that it was a unexpected wording when I read it the first time.

Just an FYI......when we go in July my daughter sweats like crazy. Found myself doing a lot of laundry. Bring a lot of extra shorts and shirts and underwear. We have to change twice a day. It really wasn't all that bad if you cool off in the afternoon and then go back at night. Have a great time!!!!

No, you should have said keep your sweaty arms, etc OUT of the ice bins where they sell bottled water.

There are also misting stations in the parks that cool you down quickly.

Also limit your alcohol consumption and if you smoke..quit. It dries you out.
