Handing off an ADR

I know that ADRs cannot be transferred from person to person, but what about gifting? I have a friend that is travelling down the same time as us, and I may end up cancelling a LC ADR. While folks here are nice, friends are closer. Can I just give him the reservation number and have him check in like it was us - or even just have him give my name?

Is there any downside to this? Would they require the CC name when he pays the tip to match?

You could probably do this and be fine, but you can't pay for his meal using your dining credits (if that's what you are referring to in the above?).

No, I don't want to pay for his meal. Very much no. The reason I ask is because I wonder if Disney has some sort of deterrant to dissuade people from doing this, as it isn't that different from giving someone an ADR. The only difference I can see is that I would still control the reservation and could cancel it out from under him. But, that wouldn't be cool. Since the ADR isn't specifically tied to the DDP (going OOP is alway an option), the only things I could think of is requiring ID at the outset or requiring any CC used to match the name on the ADR.

I'm just curious to know because it would be easier for me to just hand it off to him for his use than it would be for us to try and coordinate a call or online drop/pickup. I'd just hate for him to cancel his lunch ADR for my unneeded dinner, only to be denied when he showed up to eat.

I did that at Le Cellier once - a friend of mine was not going to use it and gave me the reservation #. I just checked in with her last name. It was no problem.

I have done the same in the past, just let friend use my reservation with my last name. No problems at all.

He probably won't even need the confirmation #, but it never hurts to give it to him just in case. Just tell him to check in (be sure to tell him to tell them it is "(your name), party of..." and go up when they call YOUR name. They aren't going to ask if he/they are you when he walks up, they will just seat him/them and get down to business. :thumbsup2

It makes me really glad to hear this. I hadn't realized it, but that's his son's 1st birthday, so they are especially excited to have dinner there instead of lunch.
