Would love to get my Mom down to WDW but she is not a camper. She might stay in a cabin though. She is not in a wheelchair but can't really handle stairs and needs a seat in the shower. Would it require a doctor's certification to make the reservation or is it just a matter of requesting it and they take our word for the need?

No doctor's certification required at all. Just tell them you need an accessible cabin. If you go to the DISabilities board, and look in the FAQ, there is a phone number you can call AFTER you make your reservations to discuss your needs. Central Reservations will try to put you on hold and call Special Services themselves, but in my experience they never get it right that way. Just make the reservation, mention you need an accessible cabin. Then a few days later, call the Special Services number yourself and discuss your needs with them directly.
