is there handicap parking and is it fairly close to the gate. I am handicap but no wheelchair just crutches and was wondering about parking. Thanks

if you have a designated emblem or handicapped parking permit- there is indeed handicapped parking at all parks. The later you go in the day, the further back you will be (as anywhere). In addition there is no tram service to the lots so sometimes you have to take that into account.

We have only used handicapped parking at Epcot and at MK. In both cases we got one the closest handicapped spots but in neither case was it very close in. At Epcot in particular there is a section of handicapped parking that requires a long and pretty strenuous walk for a handicapped person. There are wheelchairs placed there to help but there isn't always one there.

If you don't have a wheelchair then it is closer for you to tell the parking CM that you need to park on the end at a tram stop for medical reasons and ride the tram in.

Very true. At AK the handicap parking is a long way from the gate.

One problem is that the parking is too far from the gate. Another is that rather than designate the first two spaces or so at the ends of the rows as handicapped, they put in a section. So you could be at the end of a row and have to hike up to the spot where you catch the tram.

And at the MK, it is ridiculous.

You can explain to them that you have crutches and ask to be parked at the front of the row...but those parking people can be very unsympathetic...and rude. If they don't let you, and you do it anyway, they even come over and yell at you.

The large colored patch at the start of every tram row is used as handicapped parking for those able to board the trams. Wheelchairs and strollers must be folded to go on the trams.

The handicapped parking sections are mainly for those with electric wheelchairs. They are also used by those who cannot or do not wish to fold up wheelchairs.

If you are pointed at a space too far down the aisle away from the tram, you can continue all the way (as if to exit) and come around and try again.

Who (requiring handicapped parking), on the second time comin' 'round the lot, wants to just use the colored patch or commence a row anyway and otherwise proceed to board the tram normally and saying that they will take up the matter with Guest Relations?

MGM has the closest handicapped parking to the park entrance and the launch,so when I am only going into the World Showcase,I'll often park at MGM. The next best parking is Epcot, then AK. The MK has the worst handicapped parking, which is why I'll valet at one of the MK resorts when I go to MK(I have a handicapped sticker so I can legally do this). To me it is worth the couple of bucks tip so I don't have to deal with the parking lot at MK.

Thank you everyone for the GREAT information. I do have a handicap embalm, so doing nothing illegal and again thanks for the great tips!!!! I love this board.

FTR,I don't make an ADR anymore;I take an old WDW bag I have lying around the house and put something in it so it looks like I'm returning something to the gift shop, and that's what I say to the guard(unless of course I need a tonga Toast fix!!)

FYI not all manual chairs fold. Only those with cross bars under the seats fold. Both of my girls have rigid (non folding) chairs which for a full time wheelchair user offers a better ride.

1) You would be better off in regular parking, and taking the lot tram.
2) You will walk further if you used handicapped parking, especially at MK.

I have an ECV and will be taking to WDW. We drive to WDW and will be hauling it on a small trailer hitched to the car. Does anyone know if that will cause a problem parking at the hotel and in the park parking lots? Appreciate any info. Thank you.:)

All of the handicap spaces at the parks are oversize; I often see SUVs with small ECV trailers parked in them with no problem.

Depending on the Resort, there may be problems in some of the lots. If you are staying in a deluxe, you get free valet parking with a handicap tag. (Just don't forget that the valets are tip positions).

1) Maybe at the resort.
2) If the lot is busy, there might not be two spaces in a row.
3) This woulod have the trailer stick out into the lane.
4) You'll see when you get there.
5) Same thing goes for the parks.
6) If you get there late, the handicapped lot may not have two spaces.
