Does anyone know where the "handicap" Illuminations viewing areas are? Any comments on the view quality from those areas?

They are marked on the park maps.
The spots are in front of each Showcase Plaza shop (those 2 shops just after you have crossed the bridge into World Showcase), in front of Canada and in front of Italy.
The view from the spots are fine, but the areas can fill up quickly, so get there early. The wheelchairs are parked close together in a row along the front of the area. The rest of your party will be behind you and if the area is busy and your party is more than a few people, there is a possibilty that you may be asked to split up with only part of your party in the viewing area with you.

Another thing to think about is the wind direction. If it is blowing toward you, you will get a lot of smoke blowing at you during the show.

If you don't use those viewing spots, there are still plenty of good spots to view Illuminations around World Showcase. Just find a spot where you can see the barges parked in the water (not the globe, it will move over to the barges during the show). If you have a good view of the barges, you will have a good view of the lower parts of the show.

I highly recommend the two spots in front of the shops at the entrance to World Showcase. I've never had a bad experience from there - unless you count the Brazilians yelling at you to move because they are sitting on the ground and can't see through the wheelchair or ECV. But that's a whole 'nother issue, LOL!

On Monday night one of those spots will be taken by the Grand Gatherings event -- which I just cancelled for our group due to poor reviews. I think we will try for a NON HA spot just behind the "sit down" spot at front and center. Then the kids can go sit at the railing if they would like.

Three years ago we got the best seats in the house, front and center at the railing. Had to wait 2 hours and fight off a couple people who got there after we did and thought they would sneek into our spot without our noticing. I would do it again but they don't allow wheelchairs there because you're required to sit flat on the ground.

I'll scope out the spot you mentioned first -- we may split up and have a few over there with the wheelchair and the rest in the middle.

I have found that along the fence just past the Mexico souevenier stand on the way to Norway is very good. Usually if you get there about 1/2 hour before IllumiNations you can get a wheelchair right up to the fence. The people who are with you can stand behind the wheelchairs. It is a very good viewing area.

And if you are not worried about a DWI charge while in your wheelchair you can have someone with you go right over to the Margarita stand nearby.

Last time I went there was a large group of Brazilian teens, and without even asking they made room for me to pull my ECV right up to the fence and my nephew stood behind me.

I noticed the trees by H/P viewing spot by England are getting overgrown as are some of the other HP spots. So we try to get close to the fence not in a H/P spot.
