Hand scanning for park entrance ? start date

I have recently heard that disney will be finger scanning all guests with passes - does anyone know when this is starting - we travel to orlando in early July and were hoping to sell on our tickets unused days on ebay - thanks

Roger that, that is a go.... We went a few days ago and my soon to be bro-in-law bought a play 4 days... he got scanned, so I think they've already started!

Play Four Days ticket media has always had biometrics. It is intended for Florida residents and by having then biometrics it prevents Florida residents from buying them and then selling them to their out of state friends.

Scanning has also been in place for AP and PAP to prevent use by other than the owner

thanks for the response anyway - someone also mentioned scanning for Play for 4 - what is this? We have a 10 day unlimited admissions pass - do you think it would apply to this?

Last trip down, half the machines beeped us in,half denied us,( had AP's). All the CM's did was over-ride and send us thru. Couple years ago my magnetic money clip ruined my AP. Every time it rejected I had to show photo ID to get in. I'm just curious if those bio machines just aren't bluffing everyone.

10 day unlimited pass is the type of pass I think they'd scan for.

KNWVIKING--assume it's a bluff and the machine rejects a certain percentage. Requiring photo id and checking the name still deters unauthroized use. I've always been asked for photo id when my AP is rejected. Finally a CM hit a button that rescanned me and the problem was solved.

Come to think of it they probably have to put names on the passes first. I picture the confusion when 1 member of a family hands out the tickets as you're approaching the gate.

apparently there is no form of id on the 10 day passes, i have been told that scanning is coming in but no-one seems to know when, could cause probs if i sell my unused days on to a bidder on ebay! Does anyone know of a site which would have this info - ie.e what date the scanning is coming in for all passes?

Next time we go, if there is no line, I'm going to switch cards with DW just to see what happens. Like I said, a couple years ago they checked my ID, but this last trip not once and we were denied dozens of times-CM just over-rode and let us thru. Maybe we just go so often they recognize our faces by now.

They really don't care who uses it, but that person is the only one who can use it that day. But, that's where the ink stamp comes in when you exit a park. They don't want four people sharing two passes,meaning two go in,one exits with both passes,two more go in,one exits with both passes, then two more go in. The machine remembers when the ticket first went in. when it see's the ticket come back again,it alerts the CM to look for a hand stamp. No stamp means someone else is trying to use the ticket on the same day.

At this point you simply throw a fit,scream about handsoap or pool chlorine,etc.. and they beep you in anyway.

According to mousesavers (I guess there is always the first time Mary is wrong) finger scans are being done with the 10 day passes.

The passes are non-transferrable. Disney doesn't want you selling them on E-Bay. They also don't want a group of 2 familes each using the pass for 5 days. Disney really needs names and pictures on the pass if they want better compliance.

We've been with my parents when they've bought these and the biometrics were never done. You just swiped the cards thru. No finger thingy.

There has been times where the scan didn't work on AP's for DH and I. We have never had to show ID.

The biometrics are indeed real. They work by taking an actual picture of your fingers, not fingerprints like everyone thinks. The picture is actually taken from above (not below like everyone thinks). The picture is compared to the one stored in the database. Thinks like a change in jewelry, arthritis, or other things that cause a change in finger size, can cause the machine to reject you. If you bought your tickets as a group it will often detect that fact and let you in even if you use someone else in your party's ticket, it assumes you got them mixed up. Different passes from different sources have different rules on biometrics. For instance the 10 day pass for most guests from Great Britain requires biometrics while the stateside ones do not. If you have any specific question about the biometrics feel free to ask, it is my area.

I guess I'd never heard of this. So do they take your prints when you purchase them at the Disney store or whatever or the first time you use the tickets or something?

The first time you use the tickets, the machine scans your fingers.

On With the Show -

That's what happened to My DW and I right after we activated our APs last year. We just figured that (since we've been married for 20+years) we've grown to look alike and our hands were identical LOL.

Just be sure and pack your fingers just in case and you shouldn't have any problems. I believe most airlines allow them as carry-on so they won't get lost with the rest of your luggage.
