You know, those little paper things with the a number on one side? Do you still use it? Or do you use cards, contactless or even your phone or watch?

A shaved ice stand in town wanted to charge an extra dollar on a $10 transaction if I used a card. I used paper money. I also like to leave tips in cash where possible

Always relying on plastic can bite you in the butt occasionally since power and/or computer outages can hit when you least expect it.

Still use cash when making small purchases in public. I agree as mentioned above, computers are sometimes down so the need to have some cash with me has never changed. Credit cards are convenient so I don't have to carry around large amounts of cash when making bigger purchases. No interest in those watches tied to my phone. Can't imagine how you can see much of anything on a screen that small.

My daughter is getting her house ready to sell and the landscaper, roofing company and power washing guy all offered a discount for cash or check, all stating their bank card fees were getting out of hand, so there is a bit of a backlash to plastic by some.
I still pay cash for a lot of things, and ALWAYS have enough cash in my wallet for a tank of gasoline. Like @_19disnA I have seen cases where the POS (Point of Sale) systems go down and some people are stuck. A pretty big area of where I live had a POS failure at gasoline stations, and I was at one as a steady stream of people running on fumes were trying to find a gasoline station with a working POS system. I had cash, so no problem.

Cash is going down the same path as travel agents.

It will remain for a few small niche needs but otherwise is totally unneeded.

We use cash for small purchases , for paying grandkids for helping around the house and small tips. We do have a few places that would charge extra for credit cards. Those places we use checks.

I use cash once or twice a year.

I write checks when I have to renew a passport but not otherwise.

My adult kids never use either.

Have to agree to disagree

The unbanked don’t have advocates for their problems.

The world will just leave them behind.
Nothing to disagree over. As long as there are people who only have cash to buy goods and services, businesses will take cash for goods and services.

Maybe eventually, but for now, we usually zip past a long line of folk who only have cash at self checkout at our grocery store. Half the machines are card only the the others take both.

Cheques over here (our spelling of "check"!) are pretty much non-existent. So are paying in books. There are occasions where cash is useful - very small transactions in small shops sometimes have a minimum spend on credit/debit cards due to transaction fees, so either you crack out the green or you buy a Kit Kat on top of your shopping!

I have some cash in my wallet for emergencies but I am now debit/credit only at this point in my life. It's so easy and I have the reserve if an emergency arises.

Never carry cash. Haven’t in years. Only small amount when traveling out of country.

Wrote a cheque last week for the first time in like 5 years. It was for a contractor.

So should I keep my paper Canadian currency as a collector's item or turn it in at a bank when I am up there next year? Last time I was in Canada was 2019 and in Victoria the touristy places still accepted it, but they also take U.S. dollars.

I always have cash on me. Yesterday I went to a farm stand and today to a farm to pick raspberries. Both were cash only.

I only use cash to get gas. It’s cheaper and every time a CC has been breached the source was a gas station.

My favorite local breakfast place gives a cash discount.

I pay for both my hair and nails with cash and get a discount for using cash. (Two different salons)

I very rarely use cash. Most often it's for lottery tickets, because that has to be in cash, but I don't even buy those often.
