When we went to Disney, 2 years ago, I wrapped 9 pressies for my son and put them in his case. I was busy watching dh set the alarm off (usually happens to him), looked up to find ds had taken his own case & security was talking to him. She asked me to show her inside the case, I did & explained about the pressies. I proceeded to open them but she just looked in one & said it was fine. My question is should I do this again, I thought they could see into the bags through the x ray machine. Also, I froze bottles of water for the journey. I know I can't do this now & am limited in the amount of water I take, but will there be plenty of available water onboard?

Who are you flying with? I know with Virgin you can go and help yourself to water whenever you like at the galley. The exception would be while they are actually getting the meals ready.

The x-ray machines can see inside your presents, but they still manually check every few just in case the nutters have found some new substance to make weapons out of, the same reason every few people get frisked even if the arch stays quiet. Also some things can look 'odd' on the screen. We once brought a killer whale ornament home from Sea World for my mum, the guy on the screen kept backing the belt up and having another look. I could see from where I was waiting that it looked a bit like a gun, sure enough they opened it up and checked.

Thanks Spence. We fly with Monarch, from Newcastle. I'l just wrap & be prepared to unwrap, if neccessary. I know there's a few dissers that have used the flight, so I'l ask the water question separately.

What a lovely idea. If you have room in your hand luggage I would do it but from what I understand they are strict on the hand luggage dimensions now. I have not flown since the terrorist threat last year to see if there is an actual difference. I know I have only had my hand luggage weighed once coming back in 2005.

I don't think I would like to be worried about having to open presents in security though. I suppose if you sticked to things normally taken on planes to entertain kids the x ray machine won't see anything different even if they are wrapped up.

It will certainly keep your son entertained, I would love that. May suggest that to the hubbie, why do kids get all the fun?:) Any way Monarch only have overhead tvs that come down and to be honest we didn't really find the films up to much. Last year I think it was The Pacifier going (which was ok) and The Shaggy Dog (again ok, but then I had had a couple of wines). Then old comedy shows. We were okay because we had our psps with games and films.
