hey everyone! I will be down at WDW in January for marathon weekend and want to treat myself to a camping getaway after the race. I recently took up hammock camping and want to hammock cqmp at the campgrounds. I have never been so does anyone know if Disney allows you to hang hammocks from their trees? Any information provided would be greatly appreciated!!!

26'er,

Ya know, yours is a question I have never seen here on the Camping Board. I commend you.

We get questions about golf carts, rental trailers, best sites, "how busy is it" when, etc. but yours is an original. I bow down to you. :worship:

To answer your question, Disney is pretty lenient about tying up ropes to dry towels, support tents, etc. off of trees. I've been some places where you had to place slivers of wood or sticks around a tree trunk to keep rope/string from digging into the bark for 2 whole nights!

Having said that, my best guess answer is that it would not be dis-allowed. Some sites have more trees around than others but if you are in a Tent or Full site, I bet you will strike pay dirt. If you are assigned a site and go to it and it is not useful for a hammock, call or go back to the Fort front desk and ask for another site (or one you saw on the way that was empty).

My DD has taken an ENO/INO hammock to the Fort for daytime use with no problems. Good luck with your run!

PS - I did the Disney Full Marathon over a decade ago. I'm sitting here contemplating it again for 2017. Just to Finish It, not for a PR....

Funny 'bama Ed. I was thinking the same thing. Huh, never heard this one asked before. It's usually the opposite. "Will my 52 ft rig fit on a Partial site?"

I actually had to Google "hammock camping" to make sure it's what it sounded like. Sure enough. As much backpacking as I did in Scouts, I'm surprised we never came up with this.

I did find this pic that has a 1 tree option. It would probably make almost any Fort site an option and less likely to draw the attention of the CMs.

We have one of these for our casual hammock from Byer's of Maine, I wonder if you could rig up a hook to a vehicle on one side and a thing like this on the other side if they don't allow you to use a tree?

I had to look it up too! I don't think I could camp like that. I hope it all works out for you, 26.2MagicalMiles!
