Has anyone flown out of the Hamilton Airport? I am thinking of flying out of there so I was wondering if it's big and how busy it is

TIA

The airport is tiny & simple. We live 10 mins from there. We flew westjet to Cuba from there a few years ago. You actually board right from the tarmack. I would fly from Hamilton anytime. It's great. If you need a hotel there's a super 8 about 3 mins from the airport.

I've only flown domestically out of Hamilton, but I love it. My parents are in Burlington, so it's really convenient. I've never had more than a couple of people ahead of me to check in. Basically you check in, go over 40 feet to the lounge (Tim's etc., with a few tables) then go another 10 feet to security. There's only 1 security scanner, I think (maybr 2 now), then you're in the waiting area. There are only 2 gates, with a shared waiting area. There's a tiny convenience store there now, a little play area, and that's it. You walk out on the tarmac and go up the stairs to the plane.

Does that help?

We fly in and out of Hamilton all the time as we have family in St. Catharines. It's a small airport with few if any lines for anything. There are two security lines and there is now a Tim's and a few other shops past security. You do have to walk across the pavement to get to your plane and now they have a ramp arrangement instead of stairs, great for wheelchairs, the elderly, etc. It's a very relaxing way to fly into and out of the region. Way, way, better than struggling in Pearson.:thumbsup2

Just remember if you are flying to Disney (or anywhere else in the US) out of Hamilton, that you will clear Customs at your destination in Orlando, as Hamilton does not have US Pre-Clearance facilities.

Thanks that will be a very nice change from the hectic times at Pearson! :thumbsup2

It will be a huge change from Pearson. There's no comparing the 2 :) You can walk from 1 side of the airport to the other in about 2 mins. Westjet was great when we flew. If Hamilton had the same prices as Buffalo, we'd fly out of there in a heartbeat!

I was checking prices and they are pretty close so when you factor in exchange and hotel in buffalo it works out to the same for me. I also didn't book far enough in advance or I would have gotten better prices in buffalo :confused3

I have flown out of there many times- it is great! I would highly recommend it

Does anyone know the months Hamilton Airport operates? I remember hearing its seasonal. Thanks!

Flights into and out of Hamilton are year round. Maybe you're thinking about the direct Hamilton-Orlando flights, which I believe are seasonal. See the WJ site for particulars.:)

Westjet flies out of there all the time to Canadian destinations but they only run certain flights at certain times of the year for holiday destinations, like because Orlando is a popular place to go in the winter they will start doing flights there in the high season, but they won't do them in the summer.

Everyone also left out how easy it is to park at Hamilton Airport. So if you're being dropped off by family they won't have far to walk to see you off or to pick you up. We've picked friends up there and I don't think that we had to pay to park. I'm not sure about that one though. It's small, easy to get to and convenient, you'll be really surprised by how handy it is.

Thanks Nat

Just booked my flight today. We are going to fly out of Toronto but coming back we are coming to Hamilton

Are we still on for MVMCP?

If only they could get services out there then the airport could expand, but with limited services out in the country it will take a long time before it becomes a full service airport.

I remember going to the Mount Hope Airport to pick up my dad when I was a kid and being able to actually seen him as he came off the plane, pick up his luggage and walk out. I think in those days you were only a few feet away from where he came in. The place was really small then. And even thought it's official name was the Hamilton Airport, in was in Mount Hope so that's what everyone called it.

We flew into and out of the Hamilton Airport earlier this year for the first time en route to Windsor and also rented a car out of there. It was small, easy to get around, didn't have to deal with the heavy traffic out of Toronto and saved us a lot of time. I think I recall a Tim Horton's too if you need to grab a bite. It worked out great for us and would certainly use it again in the future.

we have a 4:30 res at Liberty Tree so we will be there till at least 5:30

You have dinner res?

No, we have a late breakfast res. at O'Hana. Emily didn't want to do Liberty Tree Tavern again this trip. So I think that we will just be doing quick service for supper this day.
