Just because I know everyone is dying for another holiday food related thread. :)
Any tips on baking a ham? Making it extra delicious?
My sons preschool is having a Thanksgiving feast (grown ups and kids eating) tomorrow, and I volunteered to bring ham.
I bought a spiral cut ham and have one of those roaster oven things if that helps.
Oh...and I don't have a blow torch.

You've never cooked a ham before?

I've never cooked a ham before. My mom always puts hers in a brown paper bag before she puts it in the oven. Not sure what the reasoning is, but it sure makes it taste good. :thumbsup2

Nope!
I think I've cooked everything but a ham!
I was just hoping someone might have a good glaze recipe or tips to keep it moist or something.

Be careful with the spiral cuts, I personally think they tend to dry out when over heated. Remember too that most ham is already cooked and just needs a reheat or in some cases is perfectly fine to just unwrap and serve cold.

A roaster will do the trick, just follow the temp. directions that came with the ham. The roaster will also keep it warm and is a good way to keep it warm for transport.

I do a whole bone in at 15 minutes per pound at 350

Glaze:

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup yellow mustard
2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp ground cloves.
Mix, coat the ham with approx 30 minutes left to cook
A roaster is going to create more steam and this glaze will sweat off, you could cover it just prior to serving or leave it on the side for people to add.

Thank you!
Sounds good, and looks easy, exactly what I need!

I like my ham cold, so I guess I've never cooked a ham before either. :thumbsup2

That sounds interesting, I'll have to google it.
Too bad I don't have any paper bags in the house.

For the yellow mustard is it prepared of dried? I'm guessing prepared, but with a baby that's still waking up every two hours, I don't trust my cognitive abilities.

My family raves about my ham. It is super simple. I make a simple syrup w/ brown sugar and the juice from canned pineapple in juice not syrup. Boil it down the thicken it, then I used to put pineapple rings over the ham and pour over the syrup. A few years ago, I though I had pineapple rings, but had crushed instead. I used the liquid like normal and then put the pineapple in the roaster. My dad loves it like that.

Oh that sounds good! Wish I had pineapple in the house.

Yes, prepared. I remember baby brain...... :goodvibes

I usually cooking for 1 hour 30 minutes and done. Get rolls eat ham for days on end.

I got this from an old-timer (a butcher) many years ago:

Simply place the ham in a baking pan and pour ginger ale over it from time to time while it's cooking. The ham comes out really great without losing it's natural flavor to gourmet concoctions.

Ingredients:

1 ham
1 quart/liter of regular ginger ale.

Of course, if you really don't like ham you can add all that other stuff that makes it taste like something else.

My parents make the glaze as directed on the package, but instead of using water they use Peach Schnapps, OMG sooooooooooooo good.......that's how I do mine now. :)

I'm planning on trying this one for Thanksgiving.... looks really good.

...And I haven't ever cooked a ham, before, either. :)
