Halloween TOT-ing

Yes, it is a shame.

The problem wasn't so much guests from other resorts.

It was people who weren't even staying on Disney property who just showed up to party and enjoy the generosity of FW guests.

Before this year, a big portion of the FW parking lot was designated as the "overflow" lot, and was not monitored in any way. On Halloween, the parking lot mysteriously filled up with cars with Florida tags and without resort ID's.

FW was packed. And, there were mobs of people walking around, blocking traffic, and causing problems.

Last year, a serious golf cart accident occurred because a golf cart was going to wrong way down a one-way loop. The exit from the loop was blocked by hoards of off-property visitors.

Like all resorts, FW was designed with a certain capacity in mind. When hoards of outsiders invade, there will be problems. Especially in the dark, and with guests who may have obstructed vision because of costumes. Throw in alcohol and crazy golf cart drivers, and you have a recipe for disaster.

FW management has already made changes, and hopefully this and future Halloweens will be safe and fun for registered FW guests.

TCD

I sure hope So. If not I will be at Doug's Office the next morning.

Last year we ran out of treats before 7:00 pm and we had over 300 peices to give out.

This year Lets strive to not need a S.W.A.T. team this year or have anyone airlifted out to the hospitals.

We had a last minute, not by my choice change of plans and now we are going to be going to HDDMR on 10/31. Will we be allowed into the campfire with all the added security and showing of KTTW cards?

Just bring your reservation confirmation for HDDR and you should be just fine.

We will unfortunately not be there for Halloween this year. BooHoo! I sure hope you are right TCD about the changes being made. It was awful last year. Maybe all the emails that were sent did not go unheard. I hope you both, TCD and Jeff will give us a complete report of Halloween.

What is a KTTW card & will it just be given to us when we check-in?

Key To The World card - you get one at check in to any WDW resort. It's basically your room key at the other resorts. At the Fort it gets you in past the gate... and into the Comfort Stations after hours. ;)

Holy quacamole - that's a LOT of candy! How do you know who's a registered guest and who isn't?

As a registered guest, I don't know who of those TOT'ing are actual guests of FtW. Perhaps I'll ask to see their KTTW card before I give them candy. Oh, wait!! I won't be at FtW over Halloween this year. Maybe some of the Fiends will be glad to use my idea. No FtW KTTW card, no candy. Fort management ought to include that in their list of "rules" they pass out when you check in. You know...the rules they don't enforce?

Each resort does their own "thing" for Halloween. Then, there is also the MNSSHP with a ton of TOT stations through-out the MK.

I was one of the people who bought 35lbs of candy last year that Judy previously referred to. AuburnJen92 was the other. It was a madhouse, and if I were not actually staying at the Fort, I would not subject my child to the dangerous mayhem that ensues at the Fort on Halloween night. I'm just saying.....there are a lot of Carts Gone Wild (CGW) on Halloween.

If this is your plan, you might wish to park at DTD & hop a Fort bus to get to the HDDR. The bus to the Fort drops you off at the Outpost bus stop, then you transfer to any bus that has the word "Settlement" on the banner.

The other alternative would be to pay the $14 parking fee, park in the MK parking lot - which should be pretty light because after 7pm is the MNSSHP - take the monorail to the MK, transfer to a boat going to FtW. From the FtW marina, it's a short walk to the HDDR. I mean....what's another $14 when you're spending big bucks on the HDDR?

If you are a local, I'd cancel the HDDR all together, and come back another night that's not so crowded.

We are not local. We'll be at MK during the day so we're going to take the boat over to the fort for HDDMR. Thanks!

Last year we ran out of treats before 7:00 pm and we had over 300 peices to give out..

When we saw that our stay was over Halloween, I asked DH what my candy budget was. He said "$50."

I have been looking all around and there really haven't been any good sales on candy. At least, not on the good ones. Like, you can get stupid MaryJanes and stuff, but not on Twix and Kit-Kats.

So I managed to order stuff from Amazon. Stayed under his budget, and got around 14lbs of "A" candy. Now to keep him away from it before Halloween.

It's too bad they can't do wrist bands like they used to for extra magic hours. That way non-guests would be easy to identify. :thumbsup2

actually on my pamphlet i got in the mail it said register for t-o-t by sunday morning. maybe they are actually going to give out wristbands. you know whats funny. when i am at the fort i never really keep my kttw with me. I guess i will make sure to keep it on me for all events this week.

on another note did anyone ever find out what the childs outcome was from last years golf cart accident

Publix is having some buy one get one on big bags of candy..partnered with coupons is making it really affordable. That's the only way I am able to get the better candy because there are only so many tootsie rolls one kid needs. LOL

My DS is really looking forward to FW for Halloween -- we're arriving on Thurs to prepare!!

Happy Halloween!

Wow!! We are staying at Contemp. and I wanted to avoid crazy downtown disney and thought taking a boat over to the Fort would be great to see some of the decorations then head back over for a 6:30 ADR and watch Hallowished fron the rooftop. Sounds like my nice little Haeasy Halloween trip could be total chaoe which is what I was trying to avoid. I ope we can still come to see the decorations it just looks so great and will bring bak so many childhood memories and get my DH to agree to camp next year. I'm glad I ran across this thread. Happy Halloween to all and hope things go much better this year for y'all.

Most of the sites are decorated. Come over now don't wait until the 31st.

With last years disaster. it will be hard to get in on Halloween night/weekend without a Fort Wilderness KTTW card

Wish I could come over now. The earliest I may me able to get there would be sat. night after we check in. By then it may already be tight. Maybe I should consider changing to a cabin. DS really has his heart set on Contemp though. Oh well I can always see some picture on the boards!

We are staying w/ the DIS GG for Halloween, so we will be there. Does the new security on Halloween night mean we cannot have guests come? Since we are locals, my friend and her family planned to spend the day at a park and then come visit us for dinner and TorT-ing...should I tell her it isn't going to work???

I would totally understand if that is the case, I just want to find out now and let her know because I would hate for them to be turned away and miss T or T-ing altogether. Or I could tell her to go to Downtown Disney?

I want the kids safe so if that is how it is, it makes perfect sense!

I would change to a cabin. You will have more room than at the contempory
The contempory is also very noisy The last time we stayed there I didn't get any sleep at all and we were on the 13th floor.
