How soon after Halloween do the decorations come down? I have family coming from Australia and we spent a week in mid December at DL a couple of years ago. This visit they would like to do a Halloween party.

Are decorations taken down right after Halloween? And how soon after do they start decorating for Christmas?

Thank you
So excited to be planning another trip

Halloween decorations start coming down Halloween night, right after the last MHP. Christmas decorations start going up in subtle ways before Halloween (e.g. New Orleans Square starts putting up some holiday decorations around the end of October). Town Square, Main Street, and the area around the castle will have Christmas decorations going up the first week of November, especially if the Christmas parade taping happens the first weekend in Nov.

Thank you so much. How crazy are the crowds at the very end of October? Since we only have a week, trying to decide if doing the party on Halloween would be to busy or not... oh decisions..

Historically, October is a busy month in general because of HalloweenTime, Fall Breaks, etc. The Halloween night MHP is usually one of the first ones to sell out, but most all of the parties do sell out before the day of the event. In terms of crowds at the party itself...that's harder to say...I felt like the sold out party I went to last year was less busy than previous years and quite manageable. However, there is no guarantee that will be the case this year; Disney doesn't say how many tickets they sell to each party.

There isn't a lot known about the end of October at this point, but UEA is 10/19-20, which means very high crowds can be expected that weekend (most all Utah schools are out). CHOC Walk hasn't announced their date for 2017 yet, but last year it was Halloween weekend (previously it had been earlier in October) and that will lead to high crowds on that day.

The actual Halloween night party is the first one to sell out. What are your Halloween plans if you don't do the party? Going trick-or-treating? They don't really do that in Australia, you might want to ask them if that's something they'd want to do. If not, despite the fact that it's going to be busy, that seems like a good way to observe Halloween. Plus, with Halloween on a Tuesday this year, the party before it will be on a weekend, and will likely be crowded too.

FYI, it depends on the day of the week Halloween falls on, they might offer it an extra day or two. But in 2017, since Halloween is Tuesday, they will start removing things that night after closing. My guess, they will start the Christmas stuff on November 10th, maybe a day or two earlier.

We were there Nov 5th and 6th this past year and I was pleasantly surprised to see how many xmas decorations were already up. It was also Dapper Days which was quite fun to see people dressed up. IASW and JC were still getting their overlays. It was just a quick getaway for DH and I so not sure about lines for the younger kid stuff but we found the crowds to be quite manageable for the rides we did.

Haunted Mansion gets its overlay done in September and it stays on until Christmas is over, It is on for all the Halloween Parties.

As mentioned Haunted Mansion Holiday is usually open from the start of HalloweenTime through the end of the Holiday Season. It's a Small World does close towards the end of October to have it's Holiday Season overlay installed (It's A Small World Holiday).

We went for the Halloween Party on Thursday 10/31/13 and by the next morning the Halloween decorations were gone and the winter decorations were going up.

How long does SM close to take down the Ghost Galaxy after Halloween and are there any other typical ride closures that first week after Halloween to get ready for the Christmas decorations--like IASW ?

SM change over is pretty quick. I know for sure it was back open on 11/5, think it was actually a day or two before that. JC was still closed for its changeover when we were there.

IaSW usually closes in mid-to-late October to have the holiday overlay installed. Jungle Cruise will also go down at some point to have the holiday overlay installed (it closed on 11/1 in 2016).
