Halloween on the Magic 2013

I decided to run/walk the Castaway Cay 5k while my husband is fishing that morning. I figure I'll be done before he even starts fishing, but it'll give me something to do. I need to start training this week--I'd like to run the 5k, but I have no experience running, other than training for gymnastics and taekwondo. I may end up having to walk some of it...

Is anyone else participating in the CC5k? It would be nice to meet up with any fellow disboarders who are also participating. It looks like we sign up the morning of the run... Has anyone done the race before that can fill me in on any info? Thanks!

Try the Couch 2 5K program, or Run Disney's Jeff Galloway 5K training program. Both are easy no-pressure ways to transition into running without risk of injury. My husband and I are new runners and will be doing the CC5K. I did it last August by myself as well. Would be happy to answer any questions you have. Some of the things that might be obvious - it is HOT and HUMID, so if you're not used to that be kind to yourself. It's a neat experience, but it's not scenic - I first imagined running along a beautiful beach path or nestled among palm trees, nope! The course is from the bike rental place towards Serenity Bay, around the bike path loop, and up/back the runway. Neat to see but definitely not 'scenic', and no breeze. There is water in one place along the way (although you pass that point 2 or 3 times, so you can drink more frequently), but if you tend to drink a lot running I'd bring some with you. The timing seems to vary by cruise, but I had time to run it (really slowly!), shower, change, and have an entire day at the beach. My family waited for me between the bathrooms and the bike rental place to take pictures of my finish and cheer me on. Only souveniers of the run available are plain cotton t-shirts with the "CC5k" logo on them - I wish there were a fitted or technical shirt, even if you had to pay a premium.

Most important CC5K tip - in my book, you get an extra guilt-free Konk Kooler afterwards :)

ETA: I'm more of a solo runner (will probably even ditch the husband!), but would love company at the meeting point beforehand, on the walk to the starting point, and would be more than happy to cheer you on at the end!

I look forward to seeing you at the starting line! I've walked the bike path and runway before, so now I'll just have to run.

Do you sign up the day of or in advance?

Did anyone get the email about the Costume Contest.....

If I read it right they said for ADULTS will be awarded prizes for the following Categories:

Just thinking our Group would include the kids......

Sounds like lots of fun. They are giving out candy Treat bags in the room for the kids and having a kids parade to show off their Costumes.

Just wondering if this make you up your COSTUME choice. I am GETTING EXCITED day by day.

When I did it we signed up in a bar (don't remember which boat/bar!) the morning of to get a number, then left the boat together (first ones off), then walked to the starting line as a group.

Hi All! We just booked this cruise as a completely last minute trip. I'll be traveling with my husband and our 2 year old son Luke. I've had a lot of people (family) discourage me from taking Luke on a cruise so young, but he truly loves everything Mickey and I think he will enjoy it! What are your experiences while cruising with toddlers? Any tips/suggestions? Also, anyone else cruising with children around the same age, I would love to connect!!

Welcome to the cruise!! Sorry, I'm no help on the kiddo side as we don't have any yet, but we're two adults in our 20s and we LOVE cruising!

Welcome! We loved cruising when our littles were actually little! It's true there's things that you can't take advantage of (like the pools), but it just makes it different - not worse! With young kids it's a fantastic way to have a worry-free vacation! You're always close by your room for a nap or down time or to go grab a favorite toy, there's plenty to do/see, always food/snacks that they'll enjoy! This is our 6 year old's 7th cruise - first 2 were before her first birthday - and they kids have always loved cruising just as much as we have. And DCL cannot be compared to anything else - your son will never be treated more like a prince by the crew anywhere else. It's every little kid's dream! Ignore them, you guys are going to have a magnificent vacation!

Anyone else starting to stalk Facebook/this board to try and put faces with names with DISnames?! Am I the only crazy that loves feeling like I'm bumping into familiar faces?

Only 6 weekends left to pack for us (counting this weekend)!! Time to start making piles, writing lists, and finish Halloween costume shopping.

We finally figured out our costumes today!! We are doing a Villian theme but our group includes the kids since it is just the four of us. I am really excited now that we have all finally agreed what we are being!!

We finally figured out our costumes as well! My husband ended up changing his, and now we're doing a costume together. I have most of the pieces to my costume, but I'm still missing the main part--let the searching continue!

The CC5K training is going well! Just keep running, just keep running, just keep running running running...

Are a lot of adults going to be dressing up for Halloween.

Its more for the kids over in the UK. Nothing special just if the House is decorated or has a pumpkin in the window the kids Knock for sweets. But nothing more than that.
There is more stuff on sale in the UK but it isn't really Adult centric. Does the dressing up not have to be witches and wizards etc. or just Disney dress ups really confused.

Also when will we be splitting the FE list down, always done about 10-15 max on previous cruises, Traveling from the UK they keep cutting out Limit of what we can take as luggage, This will be our 5th cruise.

In my typical last minute fashion, we just booked our October 27th cruise on the Magic today. On the bright side of being last minute, I only have 41 days that I will be going crazy, consumed with the details of our trip, where as many of you have been planning for over a year. I would go insane! I am SO last minute! : )

My two young daughters and I took our first cruise EVER on the Dream 6 months ago. Obviously we had a blast, and we are SO excited about this cruise! Our last cruise was a 3 night, so we are thrilled to be going on a 5 night just 6 months later!!

This thread was the first spot I landed once I booked the cruise today. I will be searching for other boards in connection with this cruise, here and on Facebook. Is there a Facebook page for this specific cruise?

What about last minute FE groups? Our last cruise I booked 3 weeks prior to sailing and was lucky to find a group of 6 or 7 families that participated last minute. It was AWESOME and I'm hoping to find a last minute FE group. If anyone has any suggestions on that, I'd appreciate it! I'm super excited I already have a bunch of magnets and my FE already made, it looked great last time. I reallllly want to be a part of a FE group and finding one is my first priority.

I really just wanted to introduce myself, and share my excitement with all of you! I have been craving the mahi mahi from Castaway Cay for 6 months...lol

I am a single mom to two girls and really enjoyed the family time we experienced together on such a magical cruise. It's absolutely amazing and the memories will last forever! 41 days!!!

Just curious what everyone's travel plans are for the cruise. Are you flying into Miami or Fort Lauderdale? Are you arriving same day or coming down early?
We know for sure we'll fly down a day early, and fairly certain we'll fly into Miami.
We are going the day before, but it was significantly cheaper for me to fly into Fort Lauderdale, stay the night there, and take a shuttle to the Port from our hotel. Took a lot of researching, but I am pleased with how much money I saved doing it this way. : )

So Castaway Cay has anybody done the stingray adventure? Just wondering opinions on suitability for kids age 5?

We are going to the orphanage in Cozumel for the day so we are only booking one excursion on CC and the stingray adventure seems like the best option, just wondering if anybody else with young children has booked into any port adventures on CC or do you plan to just spend the day relaxing on the beach? x
My two daughters and I went 6 months ago, they were 11 and 4. My 11 year old and I did the Stingray Adventure on Castaway Cay. We left my 4 year old to play in the kids club while we did it. Looking back, I think she would have been fine doing it at age 4. You only go into water that us knee deep on an adult. As long as the child wouldn't be freaked out by LARGE stingrays swimming freely by your feet, bumping into your legs, which you know your child the best, then I would say a 5 year old would be totally fine. If you (or your child) is concerned about it, they will have a blast in the kids club, playing in the sand and on the splash pad. They even serve them lunch :) Feeding the stingrays was awesome, and I highly suggest a waterproof video camera. After you feed them, you get to play and swim freely with them. I bought a cheap 50$ one on Ebay, and it served its purpose. I really enjoy looking back at that video and hearing the rippling of the water. Takes me right back to being there.

My daughter is that age and can be a little shy with new people too. She would probably enjoy meeting new friends before going to the club.
I'm bringing a 4 and 1/2 yr old girl who will be in the club, and would also appreciate recognizing a face while there. : )

Orphanage? May I ask what this is about, I haven't read anything yet about orphanages, or mission work. Is there an opportunity to serve while we are there?!?
Thanks for any info!
