We enjoy decorating our yard (fogger, flashing lights, etc). This year I scattered about 50 of the little LED tea lights in the bushes. My DD7 bought (w/ her allowance) two creepy furry rats that sat on our door step. We got a lot of complements....it looked pretty cool. Oh, and we give out good chocolates...two per kid.

I shut down trick or treat after most of the little ones seemed to have stopped coming, and the teenager with the cell phone to his ear who couldn't be bothered with saying neither "trick or treat" or "thank you", was the last straw.

This morning, we counted up the tea lights....a few were missing as was one of my daughters rats.

I think my Halloween spirit has been crushed. :-(

That is horrible, I Hope someone just moved them and didn't steal them

Maybe some actual animal got your rat... :confused3

what are LED tealights... the small ones you place into candle holders instead of actual candles?

yes, they're the little battery operated ones. I always love candles, but didn't want to set the bushes on fire. In the past this LED lights have been a little pricey, but our dollar store had them and they were cheap. I think I have/had 72 of them (though I'm saving some for Xmas, and only set out about 50). The missing ones were the ones closest to the sidewalk.

We had a planter box with a crow and two rats. Just the crow and one rat are left. Sadly, I do think these things were taken.

I'm sorry.. I know it's frustrating, but try not to let one or two bad apples in the bunch diminish your enjoyment of Halloween..

I've been off the boards for a bit (sick) so yours is the first Halloween thread I have read since the trick-or-treating.. It was extremely cold up here at the lake and although no one comes here because it's so isolated and empty without the seasonal folks, I'll bet that even over in the next town there weren't many out.. Brrrrrr...

Better luck next year! :goodvibes

that's a shame.. i had someone take a couple of large candy canes off of my lawn one christmas.... we found one thrown up in a tree...it's an awful feeling!!

I like the led idea..used to like to light some halloween luminaries but i worried about kids costumes.... I have to look for them next year!
I still use real tea lights on christmas eve... but there is not so much traffic at the door and they are in glass ball canning jars...

I use to have a ton of candles indoors for Christmas, but we have a fully flighted parrot, so the LED's are great. Once she is down for the evening I do treat myself to real candles.

I think the worst part was seeing my daughters face drop at the realization that someone had taken one of her rats. She was so excited about helping to decorate. Frankly, the rat was probably just $2.00's. It had nothing to do with $, just felt bad that my baby girl had to feel a little like a victim at such a tender age.

We do a HUGE display and walk through haunt through our garage each year. It's a pain, but we always bring EVERYTHING in after TOT. It is a lot of work, but we don't have to worry about vandalism or theft. Plus it's kind of neat the next morning when the yard is back to normal. It was the talk of the bus stop this morning!

A friend of mine at work had her yard all decorated with headstones and this morning she had 3 left, out of about 50!! :confused3

We bring in our decorations just before we turn out our lights.

We take down lights, undecorate the front porch that's full of stuff, a graveyard of 30 tombstones and 2 huge ghouls. The only thing that gets left out is the 2 pumpkins we carved.

It's currently sitting in our upstairs hallway waiting for me to get a chance to put it back in the attic. Nothing like stepping over ghouls and tombstones on your way to do laundry. :rotfl:
We just don't want the stuff disappearing since we have spent so much money on it over the years.

At christmas we've had decor stolen. We lost some candy canes and a lighted penquin that we got because the kids wanted it so badly.

I'm sorry someone took some of your decorations.

It wasn't the monetary loss, it was just sad that this would happen. We have always loved making Halloween extra special for the little ones.

We had two neighbors that had their large blow up stolen from their yard. Two days later they appeared.

Why would someone even consider stealing these. Just crazy!!

I had the candycane problem too one year. We have a very long front walkway and for years I would put candycanes all down the walk on both sides. One morning I went outside and there must have been about 10 of them missing. I took the rest of them down and never put them back up. I just do lights now. I guess someone could technically steal those too, but so far so good.

I hate that there are people in this world that think nothing about stealing things like that.

We only put out decorations up a day or two before Halloween & take them down as soon as ToT is over. We stared doing that the year vandals broke a lot of our decorations.

A few years ago we had a bunch of little glow in the dark bugs lining our sidewalk, as kids walked up and down they would stop and pick up the bugs and take them. I spent most of that Halloween saying "please don't take the bugs" to kids. lol This year we put less out and had no problems with that at all.

OP (and everyone else) I'm so sorry you had things taken from your yard. I hope next year is better.

!!

Last year over the summer anyone around here that had any type of animal figure on their front lawns had them stolen.... few blocks over there are woods and a small lake....well they collected all those fake animals and positioned them at the entrance to the woods and around the lake....they actually looked really nice there LOL.....whoever wanted theirs back just drove over and took theirs home LOL....first time I drove past I had to take a double take--it looked so funny!

Yeah, it's not the $ it's just the feeling that somebody had to actually go and steal it, huh?

I've had the candy canes and big red bows stolen over Christmas before. It's not the $, it's just the feeling that people think they can just mess with your stuff. :(

That being said, my Mom lives in a pretty nice neighborhood, and she has had sooo many hanging baskets stolen in the past. They found that people were stealing them and then taking them across town and trying to sell them door to door. :sad2:
