It is that time of year and I was just curious if and when you start decorating for Halloween? What kind of decorations do you put up? Do you decorate inside and outside? Is it scary or cute?

I usually wait till the first week of Oct to decorate for Halloween. I don't do much outside stuff anymore because of things being taken, but like to decorate the inside and windows.

We usually start the first week of October too. I try to make it scary :stir: but it always ends up cute. :dance3:

I might try to take over this year. :rolleyes1

I am NOT a big Hallloween fan (Christmas is my holiday), but my DD (12) LOVES Halloween. Yesterday she started decorating the house. We put our our Halloween flag, she put stickers on our front bay window and door -- we also have a Halloween witch she painted a couple years ago that we hang on the front door.

We have a few lighted pumpkins, etc. I'm sure she will be dragging me out to look for more items with which to decorate. By the end of October I am sure there will be a large plastic container we will need to fill with decorations - :rotfl:

Little story - when DD was much younger I was afraid of her eating too much candy she had collected so we came up with the story of the Halloween Witch. A day or two after Halloween, DD would sort through her candy and keep just a few pieces -- we would then put the remaining candy in a bowl on our front porch and sometime during the night the Halloween Witch would swoop in and replace the candy she would take with a little gift/surprise.

DD is on to me now, but for many years I was able to keep her from sugar highs :rotfl2:

I got the cutest Mickey pumpkins in MK... So since I still live with my parents (b/c mom and dad dont want me to leave until I am married :) )... So I will put those in my room... and the rest of the house will be with many scented candles of the season and we put many pumpkins by the door... My dad decorates the outside spooky.. b/c he loves halloween

I have already started. I just have a few things for Halloween, and we put out our ceramic pumpkin, dish towels, etc.

We are going to buy a few pumpkins to put out in 2 weeks.

I used to decorate for Halloween, but not so much anymore. Usually not home on Halloween anyway.

Now, my best friend, she is the one for decorating. Last year she ordered a bunch of stuff from Disney online shopping and did her house up in the Haunted Mansion done up with the Nightmare Before Christmas characters. She is so talented. She did the dead wreaths with the teeth, the Mayor, Jack, she dressed up as Sally, she dressed her dog up as Zero, the urns with the dead plants. It was amazing. I wish I had half her talent and a lot of time on my hands.

As designing and building Halloween props is a hobby of ours, we have a lot of items on display in our rec room all year round. We usually start our interior decorating shortly after Labour Day. Because of our unpredicable weather here in Canada we usually put our outdoor decorations out the morning of October 31st.

Cdn friends of pooh... those props are very cool! I would have been scared of them as a kid though!

This year will be special for us. I have been a big Halloween fan for as long as I can remember. We usualy do some decorations and sit out on the poarch to give out candy. But this year a friend of mine that works security for a local mortuary (yes, a mortuary), got a hold of a couple of coffin samples that have been discontinued. They are full sized sections of about half of a coffin. Just the thing to have jutting out the ground at odd angles with a little "mood" lighting and tombstones. He also got me a couple of actual body bags. Some backyard animatronics and they will have twitching bodies inside. I'll be sure to take some pictures.

"it's the most... wonderfull time... of the year!"

I know, sick. But happy.

cdn friends of pooh - I love the flying crank ghost. We are going to try one of those this year. Did you buy a motor on line or find something else that would work? My DH is considering trying an old vcr motor or something to save money. We use a lot of that pink insulation - the foamy board stuff. We cut a bunch up and painted it gray, then dry brush painted with black and white to make them look like weathered boards and put them up on the windows. We also used some to make pillars for our pvc gates leading up to the drive way. Pillars are painted to look stucco then we dremelled out parts to show carved and painted "brick" underneath. pvc gates are painted black and topped with little skulls. Candy bowl is on a table set with black tablecloth with blood dripping candles and fake rats, then we put a motion activated "crawling hand" in it so it moves when they reach for candy. We have 3 fog machines running and a stereo with halloween sound effects cd playing. this year we hope to add a mosoleum with fcg to the front yard cemetary.

oh - we also hang a skeleton (Billy Bones) from our flagpole and have a 1/2 a zombie dude crawling around our driveway - his name is Charlie.

Thanks. To save time and money, we purchased the motor online from one of the members on one of the Halloween mailing lists.

CDN Friends of Pooh -- I thought our display was good.

We do the scary thing too. First, our setting is pretty spooky as there are no houses next door-- just huge creepy pines.

(1) graveyard in front with green light and fog
(2) rigged flying zombie ghost
(3) huge spider webs on front porch
(4) dracula in corner with strobe light
(5) Alien hiding in pine tree
(6) bats and webs wreath on front door
(7) witch and cat silhouettes in house. All lightbulbs inside replaced with green lightbulbs for eerie glow
(8) shrunken heads on barbed wire
(9) life size frankenstein peeking out from tree
(10) plastic bats hanging everywhere
(11) arm reaching out of ground
Some more things too but can't think of everything that is packed. DH and I dress up and scare trick or treaters too .. We are soo weird.
