...and the number one Female Pirate Pick-up Line:

1. You. Pants Off. Now!
....

NOW.... Kristen.... :rotfl2:

Where was THIS posting BEFORE I left for the Valentines sailing? Not that I could have tried any lines seeeing as I had my spouse with me... and after 22 years there seems to be so little that really catches her off balance. EXCEPT of course the routine things we generally enjoy (concerts, shopping, stage things, the kids, reading the paper and sharing thoughts on stuff.... ya kno... the everyday stuff).

So... yeah.... I had a lot of chuckles readin' the top 10 Pirate lists. :rotfl: Thanks for the thoughts and fun! AND Kristen, or really anyone who knows.... tell me in top ten #3 it refers to "97% CHUM FREE".... well ... what on Earth are Chums? Are they head lice? Or what? :confused3 AND... just for the record I'm gonna have to ask my spouse about those lady pirate pick up lines .... :thumbsup2

AND sjcubedofct,

May I volunteer a few (say 3) designs for our little pirate band to consider for the T-shirt designs? I am considered by some to be a bit creative and maybe even a fair freehand artist... so if you'll all allow me a week or two to come up with some concepts... I'll photo graph them and post a photo link... (I'm low tech) ... unless someone emails me then I'll send the oringinal doc.

May I ask whether it's OK to work in more than one color. As it gets a lot more fun with two or more colors. I don't think we need to make it a precise 4 color process thing... but I had in mind a graphic kind of thing. ALSO... I will entertain any suggestions on design ideas from ANYONE (Not that I'd take anyones' suggestions... LOL) .... plus I'll tolerate criticism from the peanut gallery once the images are available for folks to consider here. AND... I'll be happy to share in the design submissions with anyone else who would like to contribute concepts. In the end a brief voting period on the final 3 conceots seems tolerable and democratic to me.

SO may I ask... are we talking plain T-shirts? Will there be a pocket option on the shirts? Or how abount the potential of having the T-shirts start out as a certain color? I happen to be partial to royal blue (shades of blue) or possibly even a ??? a black T-shirt so we can work in orange and green colors for the Halloween theme? AND... for another Q... are we talkin' about Ts for just the kids or is it we can request T shirts / shirts for adults or who ever asks (and pays) for them? I do have some spare change and I would probably like the pocket option and I do prefer quality in the T-shirt material!

So... while we're at it ... shall be adopt a nick-name for our little band of Magic maniacs? Oh... well now... how do you like that for a nick name for our little band... "The Magic Maniacs"... or how about "The Magic DIS Maniacs".... or maybe we should just stick with no nick name and keep and verbage to something like "Sailing on the Disney Magic ~ St Thomas, St Maarten, Castaway Caye" followed along below the graphic design at the bottom a caption like " The Fabled <or "scarey"> 2006 Haunted Sailing ~ October 28-November 4th".

OR... we might have a halloween pirate themed design with a parchment look..... and perhaps a treasure map... or maybe ??? Or maybe I think I need a few days to sketch a few concepts then I might aire out some ideas before I committ any serious effort to a final finished graphic.

I also need to know what format your sister needs this in order to reporduce it sjcubedofct. SO.... just let me know... or if it is easier just private message me her contact number and I'll call and get the info straight from her - which might be easier for YOU then to hand it off to me here. :hyper2:

OK... enuf of that... gotta go help prep din din fer the older daughter. My dear spouse is napping with the younger one... so that leaves the older one in my care... and we're gonna miss the dinner hour unless I get somthing on a plate fer her.

TTFN! pirate:

Here's a emotion of me n' my hot chocolate... :coffee:

Oh yeah...

... on a seperate note I confirmed that Jo66 is not on our sailing... and I vaguely recall the other respondant to the top cabin catagory replied that they recorded that catagory in error... and they were not sailing in that catagory. So... shall we retire to the secret veranda with the togas, extension cable and powered music, fog machine and strobes for one of our little DIS gatherings? :lmao:

Kristin,
I hope today goes better for you and the girls.....is anyone showing improvement yet?

Capt,
The treasure map is a good idea!

Capt and everyone so glad that you liked my pirate lines...My girlfriend sent them and thought it was perfect to post here....

Buck,
Went back to the dr. today and she is no better one more day of a new anitboitc and if no imporvement tomorrow then off to the children's hopstial...uGH!!!!1

Wow, I'm glad you're thinking about this! And you're certainly asking all the right questions. Design away, Capt!

My sister has access to lots of different shirts, has made lots of different designs, it's really up to us to make those decisions. Obviously going with 2/3/4 colors is more expensive than one color, going with different shirts (collars, better quality) is more expensive than a basic t. But design what you want and we'll get it to her and get a price from her. Do you think we can set up another poll? One for tshirts to gauge interest? More shirts means better pricing. And yes, I think adults should have them, too. :) If we can pull this together by August, get all orders to me and paid for, I'll be able to send them to each family in Sept/Oct so everyone will have them for the cruise.

Send designs to me at my user name here @yahoo.com. (can't be too careful with those webcrawlers!)

Bucki, I listen to Star 99.1 out of NY online during the work day. It'd be nice to get something in the car, too... Someday!

Crash....great ideas for the shirts. I am not the creative one in our family, that would be Fran.

How 'bout a line or two in really small print? :lmao: Folks will haf ta git reeal close to read em'! :thumbsup2

.... AND FOR A DESIGN CONCEPT PROPOSAL....

for tonight... I wuz just thinking... imagine this... :coffee:

a ship that looks like the Peter Pan sailing ship with a notation saying it's the magic superimposed flying over a treasure map (3/4 angle offset) with a depiction on the map of St Thomas/ St Marteen and castaway caye ... all in geographically correct positions on the map... and just for good measure I can toss in some flying ghosts and Minnie Mouse on a witches broomstick flying with the ship. The captions I stated earlier would be sort of on a flying antiquated banner below and above the art work. This would obviously not be very graphic but more artistic instead... and I can do that.
:scratchin
YOu suppose it's OK to cannibalize (borrow) Disney images and likenesses like the ship and charaters if tiny enough to not be too prominant.... and especially if not resold for profit. Which raises the Q is our garment producer doing this for profit or ???? I personally am OK if some profit is made... (and not a gouging excess of profit... LOL! :duck: ). I have made embroidered polo shirts for the folks that work for me... and I think I paid a very very low price for them. They were sort of less quality than I would have liked in the end.... but I can look into that in case anyone is partial to the embroidered idea... :scratchin

Hey Captain,
I don't know if this is what they were talking about, but everytime I have heard of chum, it was a "matter"(fish guts?) that was thrown overboard in order to attract sharks. Also, I am all for you making the design for the shirts, as I am not very creative either.

Kritter - I hope you and your kids are feeling better. I re-read earlier posts and saw that you suffered a collapased lung last year. I also have had that happen to me, but not to the extreme where part of my lung was removed. They were able to re-inflate my lung with a chest tube. PD pixiedust: to you and your kids.

Awol/Choc_Marg - are you guys back? We need a report on your vacation.

Yup...

We need a vacation report AWOL/Choc_Marg .... and for that matter my vacation report from the Carnival Spirit is still in the works - but I'm pretty busy til maybe Sunday.

And on the CHUM thing... "ugh" ... but thanks for the clearification jus' the same.

And on the embroidery thing... I checked and embroidery is limited to a pretty small area... while silk screening can be a much larger area. SO I am thinking of sticking with silk screening as a format.

Cheers :thumbsup2

Cool.... I appreciate the encouragement. I sometimes used to wonder if ANYONE even cared to look over someone elses' vacation photos. Well... that was "then" and this is "now".

So with that, thanx again for the encouraging compliments. :thumbsup2

And... may I ask if anyone has any thoughts on my most recent design concept with the ship flying over a map of the carribean featuring our port calls with a halloween accent? This could actually be done in ONE color... although I prefer at least TWO colors for creative impact. :coffee:

I thought your pictures were great (looks like you had a great time). Did you use a standard(digital?) camera for those pictures?

That design sounds sweet :cool1: . As for the number of colors, I am open to whatever looks the best. Special thank you to everyone who helps out with this task. :worship:

I shot most of the photos with a Canon DSLR ... the 10D... and my lenses are the 20-35 f3.5 and the new 70-300 image stabilized zoom. The older 75-300 IS zoom had soft focus issues and the IS mechanism corrected 1 or 2 stops of motion. The new lense is tested as TACK SHARP like their top of the line "L" series lenses and the IS is 3rd generation with two settings for 2 axis correction or 1 axis (panning) correction.... and is claimed to correct 3 stops of motion! The shots of the cliff divers were HAND HELD near 300mm... or converted to an effective 560mm focal length ... or 11x magnification. The shots are full frame images.

SO... I did lose a lot oof shots that were shot "from the hip" without aiming through the view finder. I shot a number of images casually to capture spontaneous moments from odd angles... like 12" off the floor .... and I cannot get down on the grond that quickly or easily without injuring myself. Of course, if I fall over and bring the camera to my eye I can compose a shot pretty quick... LOL!

And thanks for the feedback on the design concept. :thumbsup2

So Captain, if you don't mind....if I am looking to move to up from a basic camera, what should I be looking at?

So Captain, if you don't mind....if I am looking to move to up from a basic camera, what should I be looking at?

What do you currently use and ... what sort of "power" or "performance" improvements would you like?

For example... when you press the shutter there is a delay.... would you rather have an instant shutter trigger?

Or... do you miss precise focus on some photos? would you like to change that to fewer out of focus photos AND achieve razor sharp (3D like) focus in your images?

Or... do you want to have super wide or extra long telephoto reach in your compositions....?

Or how about the ability to take several images like a machine gun snapping off shots?

Or would you like to have a super powerful flash that throws illumination 4-5x further than your pocket digicam - and a flash that can keep up with a rapid fire shutter for 3 frames a second over several seconds?

Or... how about being able to ENLARGE a FRACTION of an image to mini-poster size? At Costco a 12x18" print is only $2.95. Why not make a few?

DO you do anything with your images post camera... IE, do you rebalance the color, crop or sharpen images with photo management software?

And do you object to having a HEAVIER bag on your shoulder and a larger camera in your hand?

AND... do you have any sort of budgetary preferences?

And bear in mind, that my suggestions do not automaticly drive you into a heavy and bulky (but powerful) DSLR. :goodvibes My backup digicams are a Canon SD400 pocket camera (roughly the size of a pack of cards) and an older Canon G1 which is the size of a common butter box.

Since I see you've signed off for the night... I'll volunteer some suggestions... a Canon SD series camera is not bad because of the Digic II processing chip for image processing... and the relatively new Canon A620 is just like a miniature G1 crossed against the SD series. It has a flip out rotatable LCD screen (my favorite feature) with a 7 megapixel sensor. It is NOT as slim as some but it is POWERFUL and versetile. The sensor size is 1/1.8 versus the smaller one in the super slim digicams with a 1/2.5" sensor. This makes a difference in theory with image quality and sensitivity that is difficult to fully describe in brief here. This camera gets my highest recommendation and sells at circuit city for $370 or so. But an online search should reveal the best price with a reputable seller. And the less powerful Canon varients are a little cheaper while delivering about the same performance.

AND IF you want power without compromise - I would recommend the relatively new Canon EOS 350D. This is just the body. The lense selection is another issue. But a 28-105 f3.5 lense is a good inexpensive lense. The effective focal coverage is 45mm - 168mm. Not a wide angle - but cheap and sharp. For the wide angle end on a budget I would say get the 20-35 like what I have. And buy the glass used on Ebay.

Hoz that? pirate:

That's a great idea, but I was picturing something with a big DISboard Green pumpkin on it :rotfl2: I guess it's better that you're doing this ;)

We had a problem with our (Dis green) wristbands and trying to use "Disney" on them. They just plain wouldn't do it. Likenesses would probably be easier to get away with (it's not goofy drivin' the pumpkin, it's foogy!)

Awol/Choc_Marg - are you guys back? We need a report on your vacation.

We're BBBaaaacckkkK!! lol It was a GRUELING four days at DL! But, you may now refer to me as 'Space Ranger Level 7' or Galactic Hero', as I broke 1Mil on Buzz Lightyear. Cody had a blast riding all of the rides he had previously been child swapped for. Of course, anything with a train is good for him. We got him a ride on the coal tender around the park and he was in heaven. Samantha was thrilled because she was old enough to ride "by herself" on some of the rides. Somehow, she convinced me to do Tower of Terror again.... Yikes! Monsters Inc kinda stunk for me. It was like Pooh's little ride but with a super long line (Glad we got there early and didn't wait long). That's about as close as I can get to report at a quarter of tomorrow!

Here's a couple of my favorite pics from the trip:

IMG_2491.jpg

It stopped raining about 22 seconds after purchasing the $143 worth of ponchos....

IMG_2502.jpg

We stopped for lunch at Blue Bayau and I snapped this picture of our mornings booty. Guess what we did after lunch? :cool1:
