I've been doing this for about 5 years now and take credit for revitalizing Halloween on my street. This year was the biggest year yet.

At one point I had a group of about 15 adults and 20 kiddos chanting, "Spiderhouse! Spiderhouse!"

Was very cool and I had another great Halloween.

Hope you guys did too!

Your house was so cool!
Thanks for sharing the photos.

Did the kids have to walk under that spider web to get to the candy?
That would have been really creepy, but fun. :thumbsup2

Oh yes indeedy! There are actually 2, 25' webs, one over the driveway and one over the porch and front yard. They had to walk under both to get to the front door. Then at the front door there are several big spiders reaching down to get you.

Surprisingly they scared no one and all the kids really enjoy it, which of course makes it all worthwhile for me. Just like Disney, you see the smile and delight on the kids' faces and you get this great feeling inside. I love it.

I can't decide if I'm in awe or frozen in fear...I'm dying to know where you get all those giant spiders from!! There is no way I'd be going to your house!!!!!:scared1:

It's taken about 5 years to build my collection. Now I just buy a few each year. Best thing is to buy in the off season, NOT from the Halloween stores at this time of year as they mark things up about 150% (not exaggerating).

I'm up to about 55 spiders now and about 15 large webs. I get more and more ToT'ers each year so it's definately worthwhile. And most everyone was polite and friendly. (Maybe the spiders keep them in line.......)

Very cool, so you didn't make any of those?

I will now have nightmares for a week, just from those pictures. LOL :scared: What a great decorating job!!

Spiders... *shudder* :faint:

Wow -- I just had a Ron Weasley moment! :scared1:

Actually, that's really cool. :thumbsup2

Great pics!! I hope no one had a bad dream that one of your spiders was coming to get them.

No, sure didn't. Though I'm pertty sure I'll make some of my own big webs like the two 25' ones I bought this year. Just not that hard but very time consuming.

Thanks for the comments.

very cool!! did you light it up in any way at nite?

A bit. All the skull fencing around the inflatable spider have flashing eyes. The inflatable is lit up and about 5 of the spiders have eyes that light up. There's a street lamp by my driveway and I have two porch lights on all night. I try and make it safe for the kiddos in costumes.

Just saw this cause of the link in your post in the christmas decoration thread...

I know something you should add for next year, my mom figured out how to do it when I was about 4 and it'll put some extra excitement into your decorations.
Using fishing line and screw eyes you can make a spider go up and down with your door opening/closing.
Attach fishing line to your door knob and run it up to the top of your door, tape it straight up from the knob so it doesn't go anywhere. use screw eyes to route the fishing line up to the bottom of the roof over your porch. for best results put the screw eye in the ceiling above your doorbell. hang a spider from the fishing line so that when the door is closed it hangs level with the doorknob, so kids have to reach behind it.
When you open the door, the fishing line is pulled and the spider will go up. Some find it scary, some find it amusing, others are just mystified how the spider moved... you'll open the door to a bunch of kids staring straight up :p
It's really simple and cheap to do and isn't as corny as other "fancy" halloween decorations you can buy. And it's a lot of fun to see everyone's reactions :)
