Half way through the kitchen painting UPDATE page 3

So to recap, this is what we began with

I have painted the walls so no more red, I started on the cabinets and after 2 coats I came up with a kind of a white wash effect. I like it but its just not quite enough KWIM? Now keep in mind the hardware is not on and the countertops are not done.


What do you think?

I think it needs another coat!

Did you use a primer first? They seem to be really soaking up the paint!

I love the colors though.

See? Im debating though if I like the whitewash effect I have going on there now.

I'm not crazy about the white-wash effect myself. I would use a really good primer for the next coat (you can have it tinted to the same shade of white that you are using on the cabinets), then one more coat of pain. JMHO!

Are you putting the same hardware back on? What kind of counter tops are you getting? I really don't like the white wash effect of the cabinets next to the beige. Did you sand them lightly before you started painting? That would make the paint adhere better. I love the beige walls though. I think you should get those cabinets a solid white and use nickel knobs.

Yes, I primed them first. All of the paint in here seems to be a weird brand or something everything Ive painted so far has taken at least 2 coats of good paint to cover it.


The walls behind are a really light creamy yellow its kind of hard to tell with that picture.


The knobs I bought to go in there are these ones

and the countertops that will go in ( hopefully soon) is like this

ETA: The flooring will likely be this...

Girl add some color in your kitchen!!! I just read that colors make us happier. Ah, I know.....just my opinion but it just seems so white/sterile.

now that is what I was afraid of. But I think once the countertops and hardware and flooring are in it will be different. I was also thinking about bringing the creamy yellow colour into the inside panel of cabinest and leaving everything else white. I dont know yet!


Even just the hardware aded will make a difference, keep in mind too that the lights in there are flourescent right now, that makes everything look washed out.

Another fan of color here. I like the white washing on the cabinets and the creme on the wall - just not together. Maybe if the wall color was something not so close in the white family. Something like a pale sage green would go nicely with the flooring and countertops

Yep. I don't like the whitewash, but I can see your dilemma in painting the cabinets all one color. It will make the kitchen really bland. I think you need to darken the walls and paint the cabinets to match their doors. The yellow on the walls is nice, just too light.

I like the light color and the warm yet light tones you've selected. I like it to be light and bright in an area where I'll be working and save the darker tones for an area meant for relaxing!

I'd do more paint so the color on the cabinets is solid. I think it's going to be beautiful!

That was my first thought. You're doing so much to your kitchen. Just a thought..my sister did the same thing...tried painting the cabinets and after a while, the paint started coming off, something would scratch it or bump it hard. She ended up having her cabinets refaces at a fraction of the cost of replacing and they are breath taking. Made the kitchen look brand spanking new.

Binny, I just painted my kitchen that red color! If you like the light yellow on the walls, why not just pick a darker version of it for the walls? Sorry, I think it needs more color!

I think the problem is that the whitewash is too cool next to the warm tone of the wall paint. Your new countertops appear to be warm tones also so I would rethink the whitewash you have now and go with a warm shade of white on the cabinets, maybe with an "antique" finish which would look really nice with the hardware you chose. Then add an accent color and it will be beautiful!

I was thinking this too. I would put on another coat or whatever to make them look more finished. I think the blue underneath isn't the right color for a base color for the whitewash. Maybe if the base color was closer to your wall color the whitewash would look better.
