My DH, DD 18, and DS 14 all left for Florida with the High School band to go to Disney for two days and to Universal for two days. I get to stay home with DD 5 and DD 4 and work while they have fun. :scared1: Please help me keep my sanity.

Why do you want to remain sane? That is no fun.

Plan your own Disney trip.

Coming to the DIS is a good place to start! Sounds like you need some good Disney movies, too. I personally would snuggle down on the sofa and watch Enchanted. Part of that movie feels like Disney World to me. Or, some of the Disney shorts with the Fab 6 in them. Time to start conniving, I mean planning, a future family vacation to Disney World, too, where YOU can go! Even if it can't be this year, plan for the future when you can take the little ones there, too. :flower3:

This is a great place to come. I am starting to feel better already. We are watching the Princess and the Frog right now. But I have to agree Enchanted does feel alot like Disney to me too. I plan to camp out here on Dis for the next several days.

My DH was was in your place about two months ago when I took my two DD's to Disney for two weeks.

He was way sad. I don't know if it made it better for worse... but i called him during wishes and let him listen to the sounds.

Stupid work.

I have been on four or five WDW trips with high school bands (sometimes with Universal thrown in the mix, as well), and although they are a lot of fun, to me they are NOTHING like a regular family trip.

You have no say over which park, which days, which time of day, and your time in the parks is cut short by the activites the band is participating in, like clinics and parades (going backstage, dressing, waiting around, etc.). Not to mention that transportation can be cumbersome, with time wasted waiting for stragglers.

Of course the trips are still a lot of fun (it's Disney, after all!), and the kids usually have a blast, but sometimes the constraints can be frustrating for a true disney-phile.

Not sure if that is any consolation (epecially if they are calling you telling you how much fun they are having!), but hang in there and keep up the other strategies mentioned!

I'm thinking DH will be taking you to V&A Chef's Table on your next trip...you can spend some time fantasizing about the menu... ;)

Someone in my cousin's band got suspended, so my cousin was the first alternate to go on their WDW trip in a couple of weeks (the entire music department is going). Get this...since it's such short notice, the department is paying for half of his trip!!! I went on the same trip when I was in high school, and I am super jealous!! It was SO MUCH FUN!!!! Guess that doesn't help you, but I'm in the same "wish I was at Disney" boat. ;)

It wasn't Disney World but I can relate. The wife, at the time, took my stepson to Vegas for a roller hockey tournament and I stayed home with our two younger kids. I wanted to be there but my work wouldn't allow it, not to mention our finances at the time. I'm happy that my stepson got some quality time with his mom and I know that he had a great time. That being said, I also got to spend some quality "daddy" time with my kids and we had a great time too. We did things like go to the movies, ride go-carts, went out to eat etc..........so it was all okay. I think you should take the opportunity to do something fun with your daughters while their older brothers are away.

I hope you're still OK and you haven't lost your sanity completely. You needed that trip, too. (You may sob loudly now.)

I'm losing my sanity, too. We were supposed to be flying out for Florida today!!! Had to postpone trip last month until July. It's very hard to be here in the cold rainy 40 degree weather!

We drove 1.5 hours to Marcelline, Missouri today to get a Disney fix. (It's Walt's home town and there are Disney things there) Hey, I'll do anything to get my mind off of being where I'm at!

Hang in there. I think you should cuddle up with a good Disney movie. I say go buy Princess and the Frog that's out today!

Ick...we're in that boat, too. We were supposed to arrive yesterday afternoon. :sad1: We decided to postpone until DECEMBER!!! Sooooo far away. :scared1:

Still sane. Just got a few calls and texts from DH he is not happy.
It took forever for the kids to change at the hotel and they decided to go to Golden Coral for breakfast. It was bad enough to miss RD but to go this late is driving him crazy. Also, someone in the planning committee decided it would be nice to do a dinner show. They have to leave before park closing tonight. He may want to move up our summer trip. My youngest DD and I are watching the "have a laugh" cartoon shorts Disney Channel started putting on in the morning. This helps me a bit.

When your dh gets home, he will definately want a Do-over.:rotfl:
It already sounds like it is "hurry up and wait".
I chaperoned a band trip, and I found out h.s. kids time perception,
is a lot different than yours.
And, I was appalled when we went to a dinner show off site,
but the kids really liked it.

I'm sure your dh will get to see things at Disney that the average person doesn't get to see. Like the area, where the kids line up before the parade. And Disney likes to have a group picture, at 6:00 a.m. in the morning. So don't feel to bad for him, and enjoy your time with your other 2 kids at home.

sorry to hear your husband is frustrated already....I remember when we went with the band..we flew down (kids took a bus) but once we got there, they "expected" us to help with the kids...not that i minded, but we also had our then 9 year old with us ...this took away from her enjoying the park to the fullest....very time consuming....

we have just returned from a Disney trip last week- our then 9 year old is now a freshman in college and wanted to go for her spring break...we had a great time and she thoroughly enjoyed herself!! :)

maybe you can move up your plans for a family vacation....whenever you go, I wish you warm sunny weather and short lines!! :)

on a side note, my inlaws live in Fairmont WV!!
