Achievement- This was absoloutely one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life. The feeling you get when you cross that line is overwhelming and incredible. It's one of those things in life that everyone should do just to prove that you can do amazing things when you set your mind to something. I still am in amazement that I did it and I had stopped training for so many months. Basically my training consisted of a 2, 5, 8, 10 & two 1 mile walks in December.

Great job everyone!!

I dont think ya'll know me but I'm getting addicted to these wish boards already. Ally from Pittsburgh PA now living in Orlando for the past 2 years (so hubby could work for Disney) but now moving back to PA!!

I never dreamed I could do this - not athletic at all! With the support and encouragement here on WISH, I proved that I'm tougher than I ever thought!

I do want to thank Auntmeme (Maryellen) and Susan (Septbride Amanda's stalker :teeth:) for helping me maintain that pace - we all made a great team!!

I am greatful to all my WISH buddies. I trained by myself and I think being part of the WISH group truly helped me to make it happen.

Thank you to everyone...even if you weren't there, your support was certainly a big help.

Hi all, just checking in! Congrats to all, whether you finished or not! I got swept but I tried! I have decided it was a combo of things but none the less came down to not enough prerace training. I am determined to finish next year and have already set up my training schedule. What I will take from this is a wonderful weekend with my mom, meeting many wonderful people, especially fellow WISHers and a sense of determination for next year!

Hi,

Official Time 3:29:47
Chip Time 3:21:09
Pace 16:00.8

Of course I think the chip time is more important. :cool1:

As we were coming toward the finish line someone was yelling something about getting across in 3.5 hours. When I looked up at the clock I saw the time at 3:29:15 seconds. I was so tired I thought how will I do this?

Somewhere the energy came for me to run the last few feet and get across that mat for an offical time of 3:29:47. That reminder certainly saved me a few seconds.

Hi all!
I finally made it home yesterday after a truly wonderful trip.

I don't have an official time or place, and I'm not even sure of my actual time. I was a little out of it by the end. I did finish, but I think I may have been the first 1/2 marathoner after the mats were turned off. The people in front of me had their names called out and a few seconds later I crossed and nobody said my name. I think it may have taken me about 3hrs 40-45min. to finish.

I'm heartsick over what some of the other wishers went through at mile 10. Karen called me on my cell phone when I was between mile 11 and 12 to tell me she had been stopped. She asked me to tell her DD if I could find her. I could barely talk and unfortunately wasn't able to find her DD. I saw Karen on my way to TTC to meet my family (they were on a bus for 1 1/2 hours and never made it to the finish). I feel so bad that I didn't stay at the W tent to offer moral support. I had no idea just how badly everyone was treated.

For me this has been a wonderful experience. Meeting everyone at TE, on race day, and the illuminations cruise was a highlight of my trip. I don't think I could have done this without all of your support.

Dawn

Hi Dawn, glad you made it back ok. Just wanted to say thanks again for the fleece scarf. I brought it home with me as a reminder of a great weekend.

Debbie, thanks again for the t-shirt. Just wanted to let you know that a lot of people commented on how cute the shirt was. I made some new friends, that I walked with, from the stroke prevention team, after they saw the shirt. That shirt came home with me as a reminder for next year and my goal of finishing with time to spare.

Dawn, thanks again for the scarves. I am wearing mine now as it is about 8 degrees F here today. You must have been right near us when we finished. I don't have an official time either but my finish line photo says 3:51 and we crossed the start at 10 minutes so that means my chip time would be around 3:41. I am so proud of all of us who made it the start line!!!!!!

This run though is kind of like giving birth, you forget all the pain and just remember the fun, friends and of course the gift you get to take home with you. :flower1:

Hi everyone ! Just got home late last night from WDW. What a fabulous trip. I have so many great memories, and just reading everyone's posts has me so excited all over again. We truly did this together ... and I am heartbroken over the way that some of our friends were treated.

I loved meeting all of you, and I too wanted to say a special thanks to Dawn for the beautiful scarf. I will be using mine because it's really ccccoooolllldddd here :earseek:

:grouphug: to all! Couldn't have done this without all of you! My DH did say that some of our Wish'ers did see the signs my family had. If they noticed your shirts/scarves, they tried to yell. They were at the top on the far side of the Contemporary Hill with signs and waving a bunch of Canadian flags. When we saw them and the flags, it gave us the energy to RUN up that hill to see them!

Congratulations to everyone! I'm so sorry that some of you were stopped outside MK with no facilities or transportation. I hope you are holding your heads high knowing that you would have finished if there hadn't been such a major time mix-up on Disney's part. I'm so proud of each and every one of us. Who would have guessed a year ago that so many of us would have actually made it to the marathon. I loved meeting everyone at Trail's End and seeing familiar faces on the race course as well as in the parks later. It was a fantastic experience!
Since I walked with MaryLiz and we crossed the finish line together, it's not surprising that our results are identical.

He's athletic (running, skiing) and I'm not.

We were stopped. Had I not stopped to tinkle I think we would have made it through the blockade, since they stopped people as we got there. Sigh.

Hi,
maryliz I saw your family and it made me feel special that there was a special cheering squad just for W.I.S.H.Walkers. Tell them I am especially grateful for that extra boost.

Just back from my trip: I got stopped at the MK gate along with several others. The whole trip was awesome, and meeting you all was wonderful.

I made it at 7552.

I am used to running alone! WOW!! It was like shopping the day after Thanksgiving!! I made it and my family missed me twice. They tried so hard!! DH was so mad!! I went back to my lovely timeshare, soaked in a cool tub for 15 min. , took a 2 hour nap and swam for 3 hours in the lazy river, pool and hottub. Wow what a difference!! We did 5 WDW parks and Blizard Beach in 3 days. No waiting lines!! 2 days at Universal and visit to a Doctor office. No one said there would be the biggest convernton ever in Orlando. We flew out Sun am with 110,000 other travelers. WOW!! made it home. Drove in at -24 degrees. Went to work today at -33. Dang was hoping for a cold day off! Has to be -40 straight temp or windchill at 5:00 am to call school. Everyone is back to normal. My daughter said she thought she would die walking across the parking lot to school this am. Loved the 80 degree weather. Thank you Florida!!!!

Slower than I wanted, I was aiming for 3:15:00 for a chip time. But I didn't feel so good and walked from mile 9-12. I almost stopped, but thought about DH waiting for me at Main St, (then I didn't get to run down Main St) and at the finish.

It looks like I just missed being in the mess at the gates. I wish things could have been different for everyone.

Hi everyone and congrats to all!

Although I didn't finish, I still did way better than I expected! With no training, (the furthest I had ever walked was 2 miles!), gaining about 25 pounds, and my foot still injured from a fall in November, I was hoping to do 2 miles and if I made it that far I was going to push for 3. I made it to the first sweeper bus, I think that was at 6? I could barely talk and walk at the same time, and I wasn't even going fast at all compared to other people, just fast for me! I would have quit when I saw the man down getting CPR, if not for my walking buddy at the time, Anita. I was so upset by this I started wheezing and was having a really hard time breathing. She helped calm me down and I kept going. I just met her on the course and know nothing more about her except she lives in Florida and her DH was doing the full marathon. Wherever you are Anita, THANK YOU! She got over a cramp she was having and sped up and away from me after a couple more miles, but unfortunately was also stopped. I feel very proud that I didn't QUIT, I only stopped because they stopped me. After I made it to 5 miles, my next goal was halfway and I know I could have made it. I'm glad I got stopped when I did and not at 10 miles! I only wished they had warned us that we would be stopped soon if we didn't pick up our pace. I couldn't have gone any faster, but some of those stopped with me might have. I asked several people about when we might be stopped, but nobody (including the bicycle guy who passed us just yards before we were stopped) knew the answer!

Anyway, I'm proud of what I accomplished and know that I could have pushed on even farther, just not faster. I would like to try again someday, but can't make it in 2006. When the weather warms up here though, I DO plan on walking and can maybe make it to a half-marathon closer to home.

I was planning on my first solo trip and was surprised (shocked almost to the point of falling over is more like it!) by my sister showing up at my resort and joining me for the last 4 nights. I'm so glad there was room for her at all of the activities I'd planned with you all.

I loved meeting all of the WISHers that I did, and wish I wouldn't have been shy and had talked to more of you at Trail's End. I also had a great time hanging out Saturday at MK with Barry and Nancy(perfectmatch300), eating at Boma Sunday night with MelanieC, Terri (24KK9), and her DH, Scott (forgot his user name). Thanks for the ride, Scott! I'll always remember the great meal we had there, and my "special" vegetarian meal I was surprised with, and our deep-fried oreos!! We also had a wonderful time on the WISHES cruise Monday night. That was the first time I'd done that, and now know I'd like to share the experience with my family.

Sorry this was so long! I guess I should have made another thread for most of this!

Debbie :earsgirl:

Oh, Debbie! I've been waiting to hear from you. YOU are the "I DID IT" girl, knowing that you would be "swept". Look how far you walked!!! WOW! What an accomplishment for someone hurt time and time again. Congratulations! You got to the start, you walked, and you had a bus ride. You didn't quit! WAY TO GO!!! It's amazing how many people are planning their next half-marathon! Good luck on your training.
