Half-marathon Running Shoe

What running shoe do you wear when training and running :) a half-marathon?

My best advice is to go to a running specialty store, have your foot measured, gait analyzed, and have them put you in the right shoe.

Your shoes are your most important piece of equipment.

Exactly. The shoes I wear now may or may not work for you - they work for me, but a running shoe is such a personal choice that yo uare really better served by going to a good running store and trying on a bunch of different pairs. And a good running store will let you run in them, either on a treadmill in the store, or around the block.

I couldn't agree more. Everyone I know just loves their New Balance running shoes. I like one pair of my New Balance - and that's because they're extra wide in two different sizes (each for a different foot). All other shoes I like have been wide Nikes. They fit my feet the best.

It's mostly on your feet and what works best for you.

Now, I will also say that I cheat on this. . .I went to the running shoes and what I bought did not work on my feet. The people working at the stores are rarely American Indian or Latino (Indios really) and just sometimes don't "get" that shape of foot.

I learned by going to a thrift store around here that has a LOT of quality running shoes for cheap, buying different brands in almost new condition and wearing them around until I got a feel for the shoe. I have worn just about every high end brand sneaker made for running that's out there. I've learned my preferences.

Nikes for running, Skecher or Nike for hanging out. They work for my feet. But they may not for your feet. My feet are extra wide and have the "bumpity" on top. Yours may be totally different.

Absolutely agree-go to a running specialty store like Road Runner or Fleet Feet and have them measure and analyze you. I have always worn New Balance, love them, but when I finally went and got measured, I ended up in Saucony. The NB was good, but the Saucony was better. I ran around outside in them before buying. DH has always worn NB too, but he ended up with Asics.

Another important component is socks-I can't stress that enough. A good shoe is critical, but paired with a bad sock, it won't matter. No cotton-get a moisture wicking sock. The running store should have them. They come in different thicknesses (I like very thin socks, DH likes thick ones). Make sure they fit well-no seams in weird places or bunching. One does not want blisters from ill fitting socks while training or running long distances. Trust me on this one.;)

Good luck with your shoe shopping and with your training and racing!
