Half.com (ebay) question for the experts

Recently I bought a book from half.com. I purposely doublechecked the sale (wording) for the correct copyright date as well as the order confirmation for the correct copyright date edition that I was seeking. This book is an old book but has had several revisions so I knew I wanted the latest revision.

When I received the book, it was the wrong edition. So, I contacted the seller about it. The seller states that they will be happy to refund the purchase price for the book if I send it back and providing it is in the same shape as when they sent it. It is in the same condition because I have not done anything with it. As soon as I opened the package I realized that it was NOT the book that I had wanted to purchase.

I do not do transactions like this often (and when I have they have been fine) but I would like everything refunded including the S&H fee because of no fault of my own, it is not as was described.

My question, do I have a leg to stand on or is it customary to not have the S&H refunded? Now, I'm paying S&H for both ways.

Could some of you buyers, but especially sellers, advise me one what I should do?

TIA

Do you have printouts of the original auction of the book showing the publication date? If you have the facts of what you were purchasing, then yes I would state that they did a bait and switch and you have a right to request that they refund all shipping and handling costs.

Yes I have all printouts of my email confirmation with that information clearly stated. It is also in my transaction details (the copyright information). Also, when I sent them an email through half.com's system it states the copyrighted date in the description. Half.com put that information in there, not me. I do not have a print screen of the original listing but I do have all other confirmations if that will help. By the way, the S&H was only $2.49 but it irritates me that I should have to pay any considering it was the wrong item.

Compare the ISBN number on the auction to the one on the back of the book by the UPC symbol or found in the front cover. If they do not match then it is the sellers error and should pay for the return shipping and give you a full refund. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I have compared the ISBN number and it matches the one on the auction however it is not correct. When I do a google search of this ISBN number The result is this:

Book Description: BANTAM BOOK, 1975, 1975.

The last copyright of this book that I have is 1974. I know what the 1992 edition looks like because my friend has that book and this is not the book. Do you know what I can do? I think I'm entitled to a full refund as well. I want to contact the seller stating this but I want to know that I am correct that I am entitled to full refund and I also don't want it to get ugly over $2.49 (original shipping) and $1.49 for me to send it back. All together, this book will end up costing me $3.98 for a transaction that isn't even correct.
Any advice is appreciated.

If the ISBN numbers match then they sold you the correct book and would only be responsible for refunding the cost of the book. Each book has its own number, each edition would also. Can you pm me the title and the ISBN number that you have an I can try to find the correct on for you?
