Halen and Hendrix guitars

Yesterday I went to Julien’s Auctions in BH for the preview of their Idols & Icons: Rock ‘N’ Roll auction next week. Once again they’ve got some awesome guitars on offer. Two owned by Eddie Van Halen and another owned and played by Jimi Hendrix. The mini, 30-inch Halen guitar you see me with below was made specifically for the kid in the Hot for Teacher video. The current bid is $30,000. The Hendrix, however, stands at $75,000 and is likely to fetch something in the $300,000 - $500,000 range. if anyone's interested, the actual auction is next week - Tuesday and Wednesday and will only be via phone/online. No one will attend live. A few pics.











The obligatory Disney content ;-): this is the chair that Michael Jackson sat in for the filming of the Captain EO Disney film/attraction.

For anyone interested, the VH guitar (the one over my right shoulder) sold for $185,000. That was more than triple the high estimate but not a real surprise.

FYI -- and as you probably know -- this isn't the original Frankenstrat. I doubt that will ever come up for sale. If it does, it'll likely set a new world record for the highest price ever paid for a guitar. I was at Julien's last summer when the last one was set: $6,010,000 for Kurt Cobain's acoustic Martin that he used for the MTV Unplugged show.
