Hakuna Matata - Scaring up Races and Spooking the competition!

Hi everyone!

Haven’t been around the last couple of days. Time just seems to pass too quickly. Love hearing about all your lives since I do get the email updates.

Monday is my early start at work, and I’m usually beat at night but not this week. Always a good thing not to be exhausted after work. Mark wanted to try a walk so of course I said yes. It was a beautiful evening and I tried not to go too fast to give him a chance and no wreck his foot. We get to certain sections of the walk that I call the Contemporary since it has a hill (small one) and poof, up I went with no problem, another point were I usuall lose gas, again a great section with no problem.

I have a feeling all that weight training, and hip/butt leg workouts are giving me more strength. I guess all that walking is great but building muscle is important too. I came home and did my upper body workout with weights since Tuesday I would be busy.

Last night came home, did my work out and then off to quilt bee with friends. I pretty much sat and watched I was too pooped. BUT I do feel preety good. My left arm is still a problem but Mark rubbed it and pressed the knots out so today it’s doing much better.

Pounds lost – only 5. BUT I’m working on it.

Dave, best of luck in the move. Enjoy your new nest.

Good Morning Team!

Emily – our weather has been all over also, yesterday’s high was in the low 60’s, today is supposed to be 75.

Regina – great report! Hope your knee is better now. Good luck on your new job! Less stress is good!

Beth – good luck with your kids today!

Mike – :wave2:
Kim – :wave2:
Vicky – :wave2:
Dave – :wave2:

Margie – :wave2:

Connie – Sounds like you are still busy! I probably had enough plums for wine, that did not occur to me (we used to brew beer). My final total was 52 – 12 oz jars, and about 16 more oz. that ended up in plastic containers in the fridge (the ends of each batch). I made about half of it with spices and half without spices. I could not decide which I liked better.

Denise – congrats on your good walk and energy and weight loss!

AFM –We got out for our 3 mile walk, missed my mini bike ride as Scott came home and needed to be transported back to work with his bike so he could ride home. I finished the plums!!! Now I just need to clean up the mess in the kitchen, and pack up all the canning paraphernalia. Then we will get packed up for our trip to Denver for the Rock and Roll Marathon.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Lunchtime check-in! Hope everyone's doing well!

Well, today was to be garden day, but we're all swamped with paperwork and one of my kids who has a crisis para in the room and a bus para was completely off. We're not sure if he didn't get his meds or if his bus para not being there (his crisis para took the bus with him) threw him off, but he was having a VERY bad morning. So no one ended up going. :sad1: There's always next week.

Going for a run later this afternoon - 35 minutes of 3:2 intervals. Woo! Hope to get it done outside before storms come in.

I'll keep you posted if the salsa thing happens. LOL. I kind of want to go see my friend in Billy Elliot the Musical, but she'll be there for a while so I don't HAVE to go this Sunday. We'll see what happens.

Connie ~ Yeah! I got the shirt that has the Penguin motto on it - that's the one that I had to change the color of. But it's a pretty blue so it's all good. The other one I got is long-sleeved and says "I know I run like a girl. Try to keep up." and is lilac. (Yeah...I'm slow, but it makes me laugh.) I'd ordered "Will Run For Chocolate" but right now they only had it in black or white and where's the fun in that? I figure if it's really looking rainy this afternoon I'll go with the long-sleeved one. Maybe be a little warmer that way.

Lynn ~ Have a great trip to Denver and a great run!

Emily and Piglet ~ Thanks for the welcomes! Glad you had a great trip Piglet! :goodvibes

Oh oh!!! I got notification yesterday that they accepted my 10K time and I'll be in the 2:45 corral for the Half!! (Well, assuming my running partner - a friend of my sister's in Orlando - makes a good enough time on his 10K in November! We've made a pact that if we're not in the same corral, the one ahead will move back and we'll just get to the front of that one as much as possible.) Soooooo happy!!!!!

Have a magical day everyone!

Hey gang!!!!

Good luck to all racers this weekend!!!!!!

Lynn: Ya I find Zumba very hard on my knees, I do some low impact where I can but most of it is high impact. I have 2 or 3 more classes and I don't think I will sign up again. Don't want to risk any knee problems with marathon only 12 weeks away:eek: Good luck to you and Scott this weekend.

VIcky: I hope the weather gets nicer for this weekend.

Connie: WTG on signing up for the race!!!

Have a great night all

Morning everyone! :)

So I didn't go to Prospect Park (the skies looked way too threatening and since we've had tornados and huge hail in the past few weeks, I didn't want to chance anything), but I DID go to the little park close to my apartment. I just hamstered around and around it for my 35 minutes pus warm-up and cool-down. Then I did my icky stride/form drills. That's where you speed up and basically go as fast as you can for 30 seconds, then rest a minute. It's to help you work on improving and speeding up your strides - John and Jenny call it "table manners" in Marathoning for Mortals. I call it icky, but like the veggies I also find icky, good for me. So I make sure I have the reward of chocolate milk waiting for me afterwards! :cool1:

In other things...

Weight Loss: 2.6 pounds this week. 21.4 pounds since April! :cool1: :woohoo:

AND I am now officially a member of New York Road Runners and signed up for two more races:
12/5/2010 - NYRR Joe Kleinerman 10K
12/31/2010-1/1/2011 - Emerald Nuts Midnight Run 4 miler (We literally start running at midnight so pick the date you'd like. I'm counting it (with NYRR) as 2011 so that it counts for my 9:1 credit (run 9 races and volunteer at one event) in 2011 to get me a guaranteed entry into the NYC Marathon in 2012. Woo!
I'm eyeing a Jingle Bell Jog...but holding off on signing up for that one temporarily.

Today is supposed to be strength and then a visit to my chiropractor. The only thing that will change it is if there is a problem with my sister and her friend's flight back to Orlando (they're coming in from the UK and change planes and airlines at JFK) and I have to rescue them from a night of sleeping at JFK.

Have a good day everyone!!

Good Morning Team!

Emily – :wave2:
Regina – :wave2:
Beth – Congrats on corral upgrade – good luck with the kids! Congrats on the weight loss! Races sound good!

Mike & Liz – :wave2:
Kim – thanks – we will enjoy the race.
Vicky – :wave2:
Denise -:wave2:

Dave – :wave2:

Margie – Sorry that you could not make it to the fire station. Thanks for the well wishes, we will have a great time in Denver.

Connie – :wave2:

AFM – The dogs and I got in our 3 miles, and I did one lap on the bike to get the paper (1.25 miles) because Scott said we would ride in the evening – but then he decided to have a pizza party at our house instead, I was cleaning the house anyway, it just meant no time to pack for Denver – which I did at 10PM – getting to bed at midnight – 6 hours of sleep is not enough for me! Today I will take dogs for a walk, then do some last minute shopping (need to pick up some bagels for our traditional race breakfast of bagels with peanut butter and bananas) for Denver, and drop dogs at kennel, so that we are ready to head out when Scott gets home from work – hopefully early – today.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Good morning team! Happy Friday everyone! Hooray for short weeks :) We need more of them!

Lynn - Safe travels to you and Scott and good luck with the half! Be sure to post pictures of your bling afterward! I don't do very well with 6 hours of sleep either but sometimes it's just hard to get more than that. Do you have time for an afternoon nap?

Margie - I've always wanted to take a first aid/CPR course! Let us know how it goes and if there are any little interesting tidbits you learn. I like your quote for today!

Kim - As long as it's sunny tomorrow, I'll be happy! I don't like running in the rain for races. Doesn't sound like Zumba would be a good workout for me. I'm always careful with my knees nowadays. Ugh! 12 weeks to the full, huh? I can't tell you how behind I am. I'm really glad that I did the Around the Bay and Midsummer Night's races this year so that I know I'm at least good for 30K.

Beth - Congrats on the weight loss! That is fantastic!! Is the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run the one that you see on TV sometimes if you're watching New Year's Eve celebrations in NYC?

Denise - Congrats on your 5lb loss! How was your quilting bee?

Connie - Yes you did wish me a happy birthday! Thanks so much! I just have been around much lately that's probably why. I definitely think that birthday celebrations should be longer than a day too! Are you going as a bride for Halloween? Do you have a party that you're going to?

Regina - To remove your counter, you have to go into your User CP, click on signature and delete the link from there. Great race report! Sorry to hear about the cramps during the race :( How's your knee doing? Make sure you're icing it and if it's still not better go and see someone like a physio or chiro to have them do an assessment on it.

AFM - I did a short 30 minute training session last night. Lots of core and work with weights! My PT also did a quick treatment session on my knee. It seems to be doing okay now but I'll still run with the brace on Saturday, just in case. I went to pick up my race kit last night and for some of the people in my office as well. I was the closest so I figured it was easier that way. The shirts are Pepto Bismol pink... yuck! I thought the yellow shirts from the half in September were bad until I saw the shirts last night. Oh well...

Will post pictures and a race report sometime tomorrow. No medals for this race though ... boo!! Maybe running through the zoo and seeing the animals is reward enough *lol*

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi guys.

Yes it was moving day and with 7 of us working on it and a big UHaul to use it went smooth as silk. Sally and I spent the rest of the day unpacking and getting stuff done. We are bone tired now and barely scratched the surface of all we need to do. But like eating an elephant we will do it one bite at a time.

We need so much and have so much to do with cleaning, painting, building and landscaping but it will be a labor of love because it's ours.

Dave:hippie:

Vicky ~ I honestly couldn't tell you...but if it's in Central Park while fireworks are going on, then probably so. It seems like a fun idea - especially since no matter how much I want to I wouldn't be able to sleep at my apartment because of others on the block shooting off obscene amounts of fireworks. Illegal. Less than 2 blocks from a police station. But nothing is ever done to stop them. Grr!

In Denver , play day today, race tomorrow did the expo yesterday, later kids I need coffee.

Dave,
Good to hear the move went well, I hate moving,

Have a good play day Scott! And have a great race tomorrow! :)

Dave, glad the move has gone well so far.

I'm downing my banana breakfast shake, then I'll get dressed (long sleeves!!! it's chilly!!!) and head up to the Upper West Side to meet up with the Front Runners for the fun run and our club meeting. Woo! Yoga when I get home. Oh...and salsa is out. I was able to get a decent seat to see my friend in Billy Elliot on Sunday night...and it's the best seat I could get for a few weeks, so I'm taking it.

My chiropractor was great yesterday. He said he could tell by how I was standing that something was off - basically I threw my alignment out of whack, so he's getting me back in whack. Best news is he said unless it really, really hurt to move in general (which it doesn't) I can keep running! Woo!!! I'll go back twice next week so we can hit it fast. And then he'll probably have me come in every other week to once a month just to keep everything in whack.

Hope everyone has a great day! :hippie:

~beth

Things are kinda overwhelming right now but in a good way. There aren't enough hours in the day or enough energy in the panda for all that needs to be done. Poor Sally is going to be worn to a nub with all the unpacking cleaning and trying to stay on top of everything.

I do plan to get some walking in on Sunday and again on Wednesday with my group.

What ever happened to our wheelchair racer Syko?

We had a good race, some how my 1/2 turned into a 16.47 miles distance , I saw Lynn off in the distance and went back to be with her. A good time was had, home now all packed for a work trip to LA tomorrow.

Hi Everyone!

A FAB day today. We started off sleeping in, which was a blessing. Last night we went to our local Hockey game. Now Mark is not a hockey fan but my son;s gf, Hope is. Our team is a farm team for the LA Kings, they were playing against Providence which is a farm team for the Boston Bruins. A great rivalry between the two teams. A nice night downtown and it was a good thing we had to park far away but the brisk walk was fun.

Our team won but the most exciting part is that if the home team scores 4 goals, we get free McDonald Fries at any McDonalds in NH. Mark and I were so happy to get Free Fries! As we were driving by one today, I offered to stop in as we had our tickets still and get us a snack! We didn't but it would have been a great snack...

Today, we did out weight routine. Once done Miranda wanted to go for a walk so I said sure. Off we went for 4 miles. So it was a good workout day... Lots of shopping today for groceries, and now paperwork. A busy but great day and you know what???? I'm not the least bit tired. I love this! Workouts are really making a difference.

I weigh myself on friday and I'm down 2 more pounds so it's a total of 7 so far.

Ya Hoo!

Well back to the salt mines.
