Good Hello, TEAM!!!

It's the Scary month! A great time for all us Ghouls and boys to dress up and go training!! Lots of things happening with our team. We had 220 posts and 2,650 reviews on our little team thread! We are one active happy team! :lmao: The envy of the forum, as it were!

We had a great time hunting and camping. Thank goodness for wipes and public showers! No one got an elk, but we had great time. The mules were fun and I really enjoyed being a cowgirl. Since returning, I have had lots of company and today, I am entertaining my precious granddaughter. Can't wait to show her the little saddle we bought just for her!

Pixie dust to all who need it Hoping everyone is enjoying the fall weather. At least, it's fall here.

I will catch up on our posts, in the mean time, HERE'S to YOU! :surfweb:

Team Bios

Steffwalks, aka Connie - Captain. I am 53 years old, married with Two children and 5 Grandchildren living in the panhandle of Texas. First race at 49 years and 9 months and it was a trail race, just about killed me!! I am working on weight loss and P90X. I prefer the half marathon as a walker. My most recent hobby, mule rider!

Funwalker, aka Margie - Official Record Keeper of HK. walker. widow; I live in Portage MI
Did my 1st race when I turned 60, Full Marathon at the 2005 Columbus Marathon. I prefer Half Marathons for training and distance.

Windwalker, aka Dave and/or Panda - I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually and I'm currently training for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. I have the state trials in Sept and if I place there I get a slot on the Ky team that will go to Houston next year for the nationals. I'm engaged to be married in November or January!

flipflopmom, aka Taryn - I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare"time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away,so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

Motomiker, aka Mike - I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois and have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Rober). Working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan. and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

LynnG, aka Lynn - (of Lynn and Scott), 59 years old, retired We are both Disneyholics – we have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but since knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva - I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

MaryJ aka Mary I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

GirltheGecko aka Hope. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

es45 aka Elizabeth: I'm 41 and married with 2 children, DD9 and DD6. I'll run my first 5k in July and walking with my best friend in the 2011 Princess Half. If I'm ready, I plan to run my first half marathon in late October.

piglet24, aka Regina I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. There has been a great deal of stress in my life recently that I do not have the ability to change right now, so I decided to try running to help manage the stress and give myself goals to work toward and focus on. Right now I’m working toward my first half marathon in October (Wine and Dine).

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k. Thanks!

Verticalchaods, aka Beth: I'm 39 and live in NYC. I teach students with autism. I'm a fairly new runner - started with the Couch to 5K program at te end of June. So far I've run 2 5Ks and a 10K - and I'm training for the WDW Half in January and the DL Half in September. And I may throw another Half in there somewhere. I've been actively working on losing weight since May and am down 19 pounds and at my lowest weight in over 10 years. No kids...just one very bratty and noisy Quaker Parrot named Benjamin Coffin the Bird (Benny for short).

did win the series.

where they are not on their guard. It is in the simplest habits, that we often
see the boundless egotism, which pays no regard to the feelings of others and
denies nothing to itself." Arthur Schopenhauer

Happy Friday team! Wow - October is already here! How many days left until marathon weekend at Disney?

Margie - I have a hair appointment tomorrow morning and then will go shopping and to a few other appointments in the afternoon. Still resting the knee until Monday morning but I am dying to get out there and go running :) My PT gets under my knee cap by pushing up on it slightly - it's a really awkward sensation. A cross between pushing on a bruised or sensitive area and the funny bone feeling you get from the doctor tapping your knee to get a reflex.

Connie - Sounds like an awesome trip! If you caught an elk, how many people would be sharing the meat? My dad goes moose hunting in the winter and always comes back with a lot. I always forget how big those animals are! Have fun with your granddaughter!

Eva/Mike/Liz/Regina - Safe travels and good luck this weekend at W&D! Can't wait to see the medals and hear the race reports!

AFM - My physio was sick yesterday so I just decided to take the night off and be lazy! I watched TV and read a book. Didn't touch the computer or look at any email. My knee is still a little stiff but I am looking forward to getting back out there and going running!

I'm doing a charity bike ride this afternoon at work. Actually, I'm only doing it because my manager was too lazy to show up. He does that every year because he knows I'll do the riding for him. It's a stationary bike indoors - how hard can it be? Just sit there and pretend to pedal  Oh well, at least we get lunch afterward.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey there Connie, good you see you back Captain Princess. There are some changes we need to make to my bio: Change me to engaged instead of single and for the Nov thread you can color me married. Then the state senior olympic trials are tomorrow and I'm totally not ready but doing them anyway. The PF and then the stomach virus have left me very untrained for anything except being in the stands cheering.

I have got to get my act together here soon and get my fitness level and my weight under control. The injury, sickness and the 2 months of constant traveling have taken a toll. Maybe after Sally and I are together I can get it back on track. The stress of all the work ahead has taken a toll also.

Anyone know an ordained minister that is going to be doing the races at Disney in January? Itr would be awesome to say the vows in the predawn staging area.

Everyone have an awesome day and welcome to Oct.

Margie I'm in Kentucky Darlin not Tenn. Sally is currently there but she will be come a resident of KY as of the 13th.

Dave:hippie:

Hey!

Dave? Are you getting married in November and January? I am so confused, but I changed your bio. Good luck in the the SR Olympics.

Vicky - Great to be back. There is a lot of meat on an elk, but we have 3 freezers! My knee would be way, way stiff. I checked, my knee caps don't move even a little bit!

Margie just got after to me for not reporting some of the funny and interesting stuff that went on during our camping trip! One the of the funniest things were the chipmunks running in and out of our tent. We have a big wall tent with a door at the back and the front the chipmunks coud come in even when the door was closed! The chipmunks were very nosey and they checked out everything. I was resting one afternoon and being very stil. One chipmunk came in, got up on his back legs and peeked into my hubbies tennis shoe. Then he ran over and peeked in the other one. He came towards my cot to look at the stuff there and then realized I was watching him. He stood up, looked around, sqeaked and ran out he door! :rotfl:

The chipmunks will have a good winter. I fed them nearly everyday. I think there was one couple that were actually thinking of moving into the tent with us!

We rode the mules to a high mountain lake one day. I was almost certain that I had killed our little mule when we got back. She laid down and didn't get up when we returned for almost 2 days! She was all heart. She doesn't like to get her feet wet and so she jumped over creeks and bogs. I don't know how she carried me all that way! But she seemed to be having a great time! At one point, we had to cross a log. She walked up to the log and stopped actually touching it with her front legs! She looked it over carefully (almost as if she were measuring it) and then reared up on her hind legs and went over with the front half of her body. She then calmly stepped over the log with each back foot!

I was talking one day to some guys from Vermont, Maine, and New York City. One of them told me how a young bear had come crashing into the place where he was sitting looking for elk, just a couple hours before. He said he yelled and waved his arms and got the young bear to run away! The Yanks thought our mules were pretty cool and had to take a picture of me with one. Sad to report though, the mule was more important to the pic than me. Beat out by a girl with long ears and half *******! :guilty:

That's most of the highlights. I read 6 books and felt cold 80% of the time. It rained for a 24 hour period the first week and I was ready to go home, but managed to get over it! ;)

Margie - Hope Sara and Hagen feel better soon. Be sure and take care of yourself friend, or you can't take care of them!

Don't be confused Connie. Sally is moving up here on the 13th and then on the 15th we are moving into our new house. I've been working nearly non stop trying to recover from the financial beating I took from the divorce so we have not had time for any real plannig past getting moved in. She had to have surgery and there was no use her going back to work after her month of recovery time. I will be doing the working 2 stores thing untill January when we go to Disney. We are thinking getting married by Justice of the peace and then having a wedding at Disney or Gatlinburg, or even just having a small wedding here with a few friends. We will work it out together when we have the time to really talk it out. I need to get her on my insurance pretty quickly though so that is one of the driving forces toward just going on and doing it quick and then something more formal and romantic later. So long story short, I'll let you know.....

Dave:hippie:

Good morning guys.

Well the day is here, I'm relaxing before I pack and head off to Paducah for the State Senior Olympic Trials. I'm going to just stay tonight since I have to be at work there in the morning anyway.

I'm not a 100% but I'll enjoy the moment and give full measure of what I have. Maybe there will be a few others that have had a rough year also, you just never know.

Eva you will do great. Wish I was going also.

Dave:hippie:

5k Disney Halloween through MK done this am--basically nice and easy stroll on not too wide streets until you got into the park where it started to spread out. Now, on to the next race?

DCL tomorrow for 5 days

Hey Guys!

Happy Weekend.

Good luck Dave. I have your wedding situation understood, now. I guess I am weird, I think that one wedding is enough for any marriage! :lmao:

Gerry, Congratulations on the move and the race. I hope you had a great time and made a great move!

Vicky - How's the knee?

Eva - enjoy the race. That's my PB advice.

Sue - You may NOT panic! You are too strong and too motivated to panic. I am with you on the heebie jeebies. Those late starts are killer. As in...I about die trying to make them work. But that's just one woman's opinion!

DGD has gone home. We had an interesting day. We made cookies and went to see the kittens and the mules. We had a good day. I sent the cookies home with her, that made it a better day. Some time this weekend, I am going to get on the mule and try to ride her. We haven't ridden her yet.

Scott - Glad you found us! Just look for the green check!

Y'all make it great! See ya -- Connie

Hello Team!

Good luck to the Wine & Diners! :cheer2:

Gerry - Congrats on your 5k!

Vicky - My doctor x-rayed my foot but couldn't see any fractures. So, she said it was just bruised. If it continues to hurt she said I'll need to go back.

Regina - My doc says my foot is just bruised. Have fun at WDW!

Dave - Good luck at the trials!

Connie - Sounds like your trip was a lot of fun!

AFM - My cold is better today, it was mild as far as colds go. With the high temps and the cold didn't get in any workouts in this week. We went to see a few houses last night with our realtor, but nothing we're really interested in. One house was nice, but the neighborhood wasn't great.

Need to run some errands today and work on our Halloween costumes. DH and I are going to the Halloween party at DL. We're planning to go as Wall-E and Eve.

I need to look around for some races to sign up for. We're trying to decide if we're going to do another half marathon. We talked about the WDW half in Jan, but we don't want to do another long race so soon. We've also talked about the Princess half but I'll probably need to be in Michigan the following weekend for a wedding. So, I need to look at the logisitcs and cost of doing the Princess. Otherwise, there a couple races in So Cal we'll probably look at doing.

Have a great weekend!
Emily
