:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 60 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 33 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter). We have two doggies, one son (Gage) who is two and are expecting our second this coming January. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for United Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons and two full marathons including the Goofy Challenge. My favorite distance is the half marathon and I hope that after the baby I can train to reach my goal of a sub 2 hour race. Another long distance goal of mine is to complete a 50K and eventually maybe a 50 miler.
GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. I started running to help manage some stress about a year and a half ago, and have continued because I enjoy it. Of course, I love Disney and am always happy to have another reason to go!

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

bunnyfoo, aka Vicky - My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I started running back in 2008 so I could lose weight become more active. I wasn't into low carb diets but it seemed like a lot of runners had great abs AND they ate carbs. I thought "Hey I can do that!" :goodvibes I started as an indoor treadmill runner and eventually worked my way outside and signed up for my first race - the Minnie 15K. As they say, the rest is history! I have had my share of bumps, bruises and sprains but have had a lot of fun along the way and have met a lot of great people including everyone on Hakuna Matada! Three years later, running, working out and healthy eating have all become a part of my lifestyle. My other interests are movies, reading, road trips and baking!

rubato, aka Tandy - Hi. My name is Tandy and I’m the mother of a fabulous 12 year old preteen son. :lovestruc I’ve been married to Frank (a non runner) for 18 years. I’m a full time student, going back to school to become a nurse. I have always run for fitness, but it wasn’t until my impending
40th birthday that I decided to become a distance runner. I love the miles and can’t wait to run my first ultra-marathon someday.

RunRookie, aka Rick - My name is Rick and I live in Crystal Lake, IL. I am married with three children (one 13yr old still at home). I am a new runner, having started in April 2011. My initial goals were to lose 160 pounds, improve my overall fitness, and to live a healthier lifestyle. Since then, I have run 15 races and lost 110 pounds! I am a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-Fi in general, Disney, photography, music, movies, and technology/gadgets. And I keep a fitness blog at rickpeete.squarespace.com.

RadioFanatic, aka KimberlyI'm 39 mama of an almost 4 year old boy, will be 40 by the race; and was goaded into doing this past 1/2 by friends who knew I could do it although I hadn't run a minute in my life. I started training on May 1, 2011 by doing couch to 5k and the first day was miserable where even running that minute made me want to die. Since then, I've lost 70 pounds, ran the whole 1/2 and am looking forward to my new goal. I'm planning on doing a 1/2 in april and in september, my first full in october here locally and some other 10k and 15k runs in between and my second and most exciting full on the 20th anniversary at disney!

KippWade, aka Kipp - I currently live in Indianapolis, Indiana. My doctors visit in January of 2011 had me at my heaviest weight ever, 282 pounds. It was at this point that I told myself this has to stop. Before moving to Indianapolis in September 2010, I worked with a guy that ran. He told me a lot about it and I had mentioned that I'd had some Disney friends say that we should try a run at Disney World. He convinced me that even I could do it. It took me until March of 2011 to finally start in with the C25K plan. I registered for the 2012 WDW 1/2 in April and committed myself to running. I progressed to Bridge to 10K and then Novice 1/2 Marathon Training by Hal Higdon. Since that doctors visit, I've managed to loose 40 pounds of the 100 I want to loose.

tink06, aka - Stacey - I'm from NY (originally Jersey, but moved to NY with hubby) and have one cool DD who will be 10 in August. I started my weightloss journey back in Dec '04, was doing great, and then started the C25K in '06. I then found Disney Races, and signed up for the Marathon in '08 (I think?) I got to mile 18 and was cut off. Then I did the Minnie 15k, and got my bling. Followed by the Half in '09, and the Princess. Completed the SpaceCoast half later that same year (time was awful, but it was done) and attempted the full in '10. Really undertrained, bad weather, and screaming hip pain - got just past the halfway point and found myself once again on the bus! So... made myself a promise that for the 20th anniversary, I would make the 3rd time a charm and get that Mickey Medal once and for all! So I'm on a mission to shed some unwanted pounds, and get back into shape, so that I can start Marathon training come August! I will succeed this time, and appreciate the kick in the pants and encouragement for you all!

Hello Team!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

DH and I did our long run Sat morning. I'm glad it was only 4 miles because it was really hot out. We need to start getting up earlier for our weekend runs. Later in the day we went to see Ted which was funny. Then got sushi for dinner. The sushi place we went to is fun because it has a bar with boats that float by and you pick up the plates you want.

Today I made Smores cupcakes and watched the Euro cup final. The cupcakes were made with graham flour and I topped them with chocolate ganache and a marshmallow frosting. They turned out ok. I think the cupcake part wasn't that great because it got ovebaked. My oven temp is off so it can be tricky to get things to bake right.

We still have several holes in our kitchen from the water leak. They are supposed to be patched up tomorrow. I'll be happy when it's done because I have kitchen stuff sitting all over the place since we can't use our 2 largest cabinets right now.

Emily

Hi Team!

Man I am slacking off with posting this year. Hopefully I will do much better this month.

Lynn- How did the Brave bags from Subway look? Is Scott’s back fully recovered now? I hope this was your final gum surgery. Are you feeling better from the surgery? The “Tour de Chili” sounded like fun! The Tour de Prairie sounded fun also- nice that you can pick your own distance! How do you find all these rides to sign up for? You guys are getting in quite a bit of miles on your bikes. Hope Scott enjoys his trip.

Vicky- I seem to be recovered from my fall and ankle issue. I haven’t had any major issues with it. Although, it does feel a bit weaker to me, but I’m not sure if that was from my fall, or my lack of running this last month. Congrats on your deadlift PB!!! Great RR from the 5k! I’m sorry to hear your ankle is giving you trouble. How is it feeling now?

Rick- Great Avon walk report! Great RR for the North Shore half as well. I’m sorry that was such a rough race for you. Congrats on finishing!!! That’s awesome you volunteered for a race. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Kipp- Congrats on signing up for the 5k and Half (Lol Pluto!). I hope this week is a better week for you for your weight loss challenge with your dad.

Dave- Hope you and Sally enjoy your WDW trip in September!! September is such a wonderful time to visit. Congrats on your newest family member! Nemo sounds very sweet.

Elizabeth- The ankle is feeling much better. Yes, I did take the job. I started last Monday and tomorrow is the start of week 2. I’m sorry to hear you were having nightmares about not finishing the marathon when you were sick. Glad you’re feeling better! Last year I was very worried while training that I wouldn’t be able to finish the marathon since it was my first. I felt better after the 20 mile training run though. I think as you get more into your training and build up the miles you will find you’re less stressed about the race when you know you can do the miles. We will not be doing Pasta in the Park. As of right now we are tentatively planning to stay at POP for marathon weekend, but haven’t reserved a room yet. We are waiting to see if military discounts will be extended or not.

Robbie- I hope coaching is going well!

Kim- I hope the knee is feeling better.

Kimberley- Congrats on signing up for the marathon!!

Stacey- Glad exercising and eating is going well.

Emily- Congrats on signing up for Tinkerbell! Glad your run went ok yesterday. I hope your holes get patched up with no issues tomorrow. The smore cupcakes sound really good! Are you going to try them again to see if you like them better?

AFM, I started a new job last week and the week went ok. Tomorrow is the start of week 2. Also, DH bought me a TM! So far I am really enjoying it, but I haven’t really messed that much with all of the extra features. I suppose I should take some time to check those out! They have opened up the station about 30 minutes south of us for the summer and DH was picked to be one of the crew down there while it is open for the summer, so I haven’t seen and won’t see him on the days he works unless I drive down there. I’m sure time will fly though and before I know it he’ll be back at his regular station. I missed a couple weeks of running this past month which put me behind where I wanted to be in my training for the DL half, but now that I have a TM that issue is resolved and I am feeling good to be back into training. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Regina - Thanks! Congrats on the new job. Hope everything goes well.

Rick - This thread title also made me check how my stick of body glide is doing. It's very hard to tell with that, but I think I may be due to pick up a new on soon also.

AFM - I will be with Rick next Sunday at the 5K here in Indy. :)

I didn't run yesterday, so I did it today. I was out and about around 11 or so, which wasn't so bad at first. It was cloudy and 79, but HUMID. I hit my turn around point and the clouds went away and it was sunny the rest of the run and it felt like the humidity dropped a lot too. Since it was warming up very quickly and I was out of fluids, I decided to cut it shorter than I had originally planned. I also forgot to put my sunscreen on! D'OH! So I was a little red when I got back home. It wasn't that bad, so I'm already cooled down and just a bit darker than I was before. I soooo have a "farmers" tan now.

I normally run with a cheap bottle I picked up at Wal*Mart, it has a hole in the middle to be able to grip it. Now that it's so hot out, I'm really thinking I should look into getting something that clips to the belt I got for the 1/2 and carry both water and the sport mix. I was pretty miserable once I ran out of fluids out there today.

Then I went grocery shopping later, and it was horrible out. They're saying that we're to expect this heat wave until at least next weekend. Ugh!

Kipp: I am really looking forward to running the 5K with you! We will have to coordinate so that I can find you at the race start! I am NOT all that excited about all the HOT weather Indy has in store for me throughout the next two weeks. Am I going to be able to do a 10-Miler in this heat? LOL

Happy Monday! I some how had it in my head that ADRs for DL were 30 day and not 60 day. I guess it works out since reservations for September 2nd don't have to made until July 4.

So for those of you headed to CA for the Disneyland 1/2, we had talked about eating at Goofy's Kitchen (DL Hotel) post race on Sunday. My understanding is that they have brunch and are open until 2PM. The race starts at 5:45AM. I don't know much about the area but do you think that 12PM would be enough time to do the race, clean up and get over to the restaurant. I'm thinking that if we finished early, they might seat us anyway. But again I don't know anything about dining at DL.

Anyway ... let me know who's in :)

Good Morning Team!

Dave - You have a very smart dog! My dogs will be on top of me if I get onto the floor for anything! Hope you survived the severe weather.

Rick - Take care running in the heat!

Regina - Brave bags look OK, they are small tote bags like the grocery store bags they sell. Scott’s back is fine, my gums are not fine, hopefully, it will be the last gum surgery needed. We find rides on the internet, and thru recommendations from cycling friends at the local cycling club. Have fun on the treadmill. Congrats on the new job!

Emily - Cupcakes sound good, hope your kitchen is back together soon.

Kipp - Make sure you do take enough water for the long runs in the hot weather.

AFM - Yesterday we did a long ride, ended up with 40.5 miles! Today, Scott had his yearly physical, so he rode to the Dr’s office, I picked him up with the car and we ran errands. I am thinking of a rest day, maybe get to the basement for some Pilates after watching the “Tour”.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey team!!!!! Wow July already it's crazy how fast this year is going.

Just wanted to subscribe to the new thread, will check back later hope everyone is doing great

Kim

Hi team! I was going to say Happy Monday but I guess that was yesterday. It feels like Monday to me because it's the first day after a long weekend.

Just want to remind everyone to make sure they're in for either the Disneyland or Disney World team meets. They're optional so if you have other plans, no worries! I have to book ADRs soon so I just wanted to make sure I have everyone accounted for.

Good Afternoon Team!

Really hot here (for us), in the mid to upper 90'sF. We got in our bike ride really early, like before breakfast - 16 miles today. Then we ate breakfast and watched the "Tour", then shopping. We will hide in the house for the afternoon.

Have a great day all!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Hi everyone

Sorry I have been MIA lately, my hectic work life became even more hectic as my manager recently quit and I have been picking up a lot of the slack in addition to my own stuff. I hope to catch up with others in the group later in the week.

Running has been going fairly well, although I have been humbled by the heat on a few recent outings. I had been a little cool until the last week but summer temps finally hit. I do live on an island, so the ocean does not allow us to get quite as hot as elsewhere in North America, but I guess dealing with heat mostly depends on what you are used to. All I know is it is not very comfortable to run in.

I think I am going to book flights and hotel room for January pretty soon…here is what I am thinking our (me and brother in law) itinerary will looks like
Wed: Arrive in afternoon, a sit down evening dinner
Thu: Rope drop at the Studios or Animal Kingdom. Head over to expo late afternoon
Fri: 5K (still undecided). Team breakfast, then relax, and shop for kids presents
Sat: ½ marathon, then take it easy
Sun: Full marathon, nap, team dinner (Vicky – please add me and BIL for WCC).
Mon: Epcot, Drink Around the World with other WISH members.
Tue: Go home. Boooooo!

Happy July 4th to all US friends, and I hope all fellow Canadians had a great Canada Day weekend!

-Robbie

Hey team!!!!!!!!

First off HAPPY 4th of July to all my American friends. It is also my sons 23rd birthday.

i am flipping and flopping with my training plan. I have gotten some great advice from alot of you but need to find something that works for me, been looking at Galloway cause I like that he doesn't do b2b's together but his milage is crazy. Then I wonder if the 2 mid week runs are enough cause I can lower the weekend milage to no more then 1 20M. You would think I would just do what worked for me when I did Goofy in 2010 but I stopped training in like Oct 2009 due to some serious PF issued and just basically gutted the goofy out I don't want to do that this year.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am ok doing b2b but don't want to do them every weekend, is every 3rd weekend enough? Are just 2 45 mins runs through the week enough?

Help!!!!!!

Good morning team mates.

Lynn it's good that you got your miles in before ti got to hot, smart move.

Kimmer, remember work up to one walk of two hours one week and 4 hours the next. If you can do that regularly during the months of Nov and Dec with a couple of three and 4 milers also during those weeks you will be ready to ace that Goofy.

I'm off to the park for a good 6.5 with my brother athletes. We also are going early to beat the heat.

Have a super good holiday y'all.

Yesterday, I had the chance to meet up with KippWade to see the new Spiderman movie! You know how when you see someone in a different environment than usual, it feels kinda strange? Well, as I entered the theater foyer and saw Kipp standing there with a Disney shirt on, it was like "There's Kipp! But we should at Disney...!" :) The movie was great and it was nice to share the experience with a WISHer in Indy.

This morning at 5:30am, I stood at the White River Trail in downtown Indianapolis with three friends who are here for the Conference, as we began our morning run. It was dark (the trail was lit with street lamps which was very nice) and 76F but there was a bit of a breeze. The run was really fun! One of our group was not feeling 100% so I ran a slower pace with her. We cut it short at 3.2 miles but had a great time talking and getting caught up on each other's lives. It was so much fun!

I think I am going to love running in the early Indy mornings!
