Hakuna Matata - Marching in like Lions!

Regina....DH & I plan to do the Wine & Dine half marathon too. Are you going to do the full half or run it as a relay? We are planning to do the relay option, but not with each other. We are going with another couple in our town and are going to make the teams girls vs. guys. I think I'm coming out better on this one because the other woman is a fast runner! I'm more of a wogger.

Glad to have you on our team! :cheer2::cheer2:

Cold behind the snow, it's .1 degree, travel tomorrow to AL so should be warmer. Cold has froze my motivation.

No brother we need you motivated. We are all cheering you on for all you and your team does. We are cheering for your committment to health also.

Not to worry running gear packed, I like logging runs in the laces I go with teh Garmin, one day weekend is not fun, friend here is in the hospital so need to go visit, will hit the TM and Bike later today.

Kirstie- Thanks!! How are the new adaptations coming? Is everything all fixed and working ok? How long have you been racing?

Mary- Thanks!! We are actually going to do the full half. At first I was thinking maybe I should do the relay, but since it's my first race I really didn't want to run alone so DH suggested we do the full half and run together, which is ok since my goal is just to finish. I think running girls vs. guys is a great idea! Are you guys going to do any races before W&D? Is this your first race?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!! :flower3:

Regina

Good Morning Team!

Eva – great picture! Good to hear from you again!

We did enjoy Mary Poppins, it was quite different from the movie – now I want to go read the book and see how it compares to both!

On Wednesday, we were near 70 degrees, on Friday the high was 24 and it was snowing!!! Spring time in Wyoming!!! Yesterday it made it to maybe 30 degrees, today is supposed to be warmer – getting up to the 60’s again by Wednesday, then another cold front and snow for Thursday! I will get out for a longer walk today with the nice weather!

Margie – our next trip is the trip to Europe in May. Scott, of course, will be traveling for work several times before that – today he is flying to Huntsville, AL for 2 days.

Regina – Welcome! The only Disney race we are doing this year is the DL half - we are going to try the Space Coast race instead of Disney's October races, and will skip the WDW in Jan because we are going to be there in Dec, then doing a cruise the end of Jan.

Dave - glad to hear you seem to be doing OK, the workouts are sounding great!

Robert - great job with the workouts and weight loss - say hi to Linda for me also!

Have a great week all!

Regina....the W&D will not be my first race. I done 2 halfs at WDW and one in Indianapolis. DH & I also did Expedition Everest last September. It was our first race in the pouring rain! I know for sure that I will do the race for the cure the weekend before W&D. We have a good friend who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, and we want to do the run for her.:sad1:

It is raining here today, so no outdoor running today. I knew I should have taken advantage of the beautiful weather we had yesterday! However, I did get some much needed indoor work accomplished this morning. Going to head downstairs to watch the NCAA. Go Purdue!

Good Morning Team! :wave2:

:welcome: Regina So nice to have you join our Team!

I had a Wonderful Relaxing Weekend :goodvibes
the view of Traverse City Bay (45th Parallel) is Beautiful!
Slept in, went to the Fitness Center both mornings, hot tub, and read a book!

Congratulations Mike – WTG! :cheer2::cheer2:
Let us know how you are doing, so we can share your excitement!
Connie, Dave, Kim, MaryJ, Mike, Robert, Scott, & Vicky.

Hakuna Matata Team 2010 Race Calendar

:cheer2: March 20th Jennifer - DC Marathon / Full Marathon

Regina I'm the only sane one on here, the rest of these guys are out there. It's normal to think your a stuffed Panda right?:upsidedow

Mike yep, the view is better this time of year. The mall get's pretty boring sometimes so people watching makes the time go faster.

I just did an easy 3.2 miles with Sally in the mall this morning, we walked in the mall since it was pouring rain and still is this afternoon.

Dave:hippie:

I'm back home and still kind of shaken.

I learned an important lesson, there are some things you cannot prepare for.
First, DC national was the worst organized race I've ever been in and had the least amount of spectator support and no entertainment (and I ran a 1/2 that has under 500 participants in the middle of rural MS). So bad race for that reason. I now want to do Marine Corps to give DC a chance for redemption
And now the rest of the story (please rookie marathoners don't let this scare you)
It was a high of 80 degrees that day and already 55 at the start. I was on pace for a 3:35 through Mile 23. All of a sudden I got a bad case of tunnel vision so got some water and started to walk. At mile 23 I started projectile vomitting. I stopped in the med tent at mile 24 and they stabilized me but told me not to run any more and as soon as I got to the finish to go directly to the med tent (the paramedic even wrote something on my bib). So I have a new respect for all you walkers as I limped and zigzagged through the last 3 miles at about an 18 minute pace. I had suffered from heat sickness and dehydration and after limping through the finish at 4:25 was put on an IV in the med tent and given a couple of shots of something to get me back to normal. They released me to my mom after they felt I was rehydrated and stable. I'm still on a strict water drinking regimen to make sure I recover.

I'm still dedicated to the mearathon and it proved to me that the BQ is there (I mean it was until I got dramatically heat sick). It also proved that no matter how well your racing something can still side swipe you.

Best,
Jennifer

Jennifer, I hope all is well and glad you told folks not to let this scare folks away.

I am in Huntsville for the day fly home tomorrow very very early, it will be a long travel day.

Anyway there is a nice park across the street, the weather was cool and I got in a nice 5K, just me and the ducks.

I was up at 5am for a pool workout, now I'm doing the laundry and in a little bit I'm heading off to work a 12 hr shift at the store.

We are looking at this health care issue all wrong. Better health care will not solve our problems, better health habits will.

Jennifer, wow, been there done that, I was training for a relay up a mountain, the base team against the city track club. I was training like someonje possessed and one afternoon on an easy run I just had a melt down and was out for a week. Felt like I had a real bad case of the flu but the dianosis was that I had over trained and my body just shut me down before I did damage. An average day during this period was 5 miles in the morning when I woke up, a mile swim at lunch, 5 miles in the afternoon and weights in the evening.

Have a super day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Jennifer:hug: I'm so glad that you are alright, your health is the most important thing, but I'm :sad1: that you missed your BQ. I know what it is like to chase that magical time and how upsetting it is when you miss it.

The MCM is VERY well organized, you get great crowed support for the first few miles but once you cross into DC it drops off, for a few miles the only people I saw was the marines.
When you get to them though they make up for the lack of other people.

I have ordered all my parts but one, my Dh is going to call this morning to ask what they are playing at. They knew that I needed this part and I was told that they would be getting it made for me last month, and they have still not done it.:sad2:

:cheer2: Congratulations, Jennifer! :cheer2:

I am so sorry you had such a No Good, Terrible, Awful experience
PTL you stopped at the Med Tent, you were able to get immediate help, your Mom was there, and are truly okay!

THANKS for being so Encouraging in the midst of less than favorable conditions. :grouphug:

Happy Monday everyone! Well, the warm weather is gone again - I guess it was just around for March break. Part of me is missing the warm temperatures but I think the cooler weather will be good for the race this weekend. Did an 8.3 miler on Saturday - I missed the 15K mark by 1 mile but I was already late for my hair appointment so I didn't really want to push it. Woke up Sunday with an achy back so decided to postpone the 4.3 miler until this morning. Planning on heading to the gym tonight for a training session and will probably go lighter with the weights. Really short distances tomorrow and Wednesday and then no running until Sunday!

Kim - I'm planning to head out to the expo on Saturday around 11-12PM. I've sent you a message with my cell phone and will PM/email if anything changes. Definitely looking forward to lunch :)

Sue - I can't believe that time has gone by so quickly and that ATB will be on Sunday. I feel like the Disney races were just a few weeks ago. Still thinking about that grim reaper hill - I've done some hill training and am hoping it will be enough. I'm not aiming to finish at a specific time so that will take some pressure off.

Regina - :welcome: I haven't done the W&D race before but I have done the 1/2 in January twice. I was at WDW last October and remembered it was quite hot and humid so it's a good thing that the race is at night. Which training plan will you be using?

Mike - WTG on the 6 pound loss!! You should come over to the weight loss thread and share some of your secrets with us ;)

Kirstie - Sorry to hear the chair repairs are continuing... :(

Jennifer - Sorry you didn't BQ :( I will be a first time marathoner in January and think your story is a good reminder that no matter how well you prepare for a race, anything can happen. Always a good thing to remember. Definitely did not scare me away. I'm glad to hear that you're doing better. Any plans for another marathon or are you just going to take things easy for a little while?

Scott - Love those early morning runs and I think it's fantastic that you're always exercising even when you're on the road. Safe travels later today!

Dave - Good luck with the 12-hour shift! Hope it passes quickly! You're putting in a lot of hours both with your workouts and at your job.

Margie - Thanks for posting the upcoming races for our team! Did you go to the gym this morning? How's Hagen doing today?

Connie - I share your grief for house guests. My mom has had someone over this week. *sigh* Who knew one person could be so much work??

Lynn - Glad things are warming up in your area :)

Have a great day everyone :wave2:

Good Morning Team! :wave2:

55° today and a bit of sun – my kind of day!

Let us know how you are doing, so we can share your awesome weight loss excitement!
Connie, Dave, Kim, MaryJ, Mike, Robert, Scott, & Vicky.

Dave- WTG Another Great Workout! :yay:

Kristie- we can hope the part has shipped! :grouphug:

Scott- Safe travels. :goodvibes I cannot understand why traveling; the waiting, sitting, being generally inactive drains our energy so much.

Have a great day - Connie, Dave, Denise, Eva, Gerry, Hope, Jack, Jennifer, Kim, Kristie, MaryJ, Mike, Pam, Regina, Robert, Scott & Lynn, Sue, and Vicky-

Enjoy the moments!

Margie The part has not been shipped as they have not made it yet!!!!!

I'm on the prilosic sponsorship competion website.:woohoo:
I'll still waiting to hear if I can have permission to post a link here for voting.

Regina I started racing the end of feb 09, I had a bad crash at 30mph that april and that put me out of action until the end of spet 09. So far I have won 10, 2nd 3 and 3rd 2.

Doing the fly by from work.

Happy Monday Team!

Welcome Regina!

Jen, Sorry to hear your race didn't go as planned but glad to hear you are ok.

Mike, Nice job on the weight loss.

Vicky, The time since marathon weekend has gone quickly for me also. I so loved not having a real winter.
What are you doing after? I can't remember if you are doing the womens 1/2?

Have a great day everyone. Tonight is yoga..........Sue
