Hi everyone! The rainy morning it made for a pretty crummy commute into the city but better today than yesterday at the race.
About the race, let's see I didn't end up getting downtown really late and I didn't get into line for the porta-potties until 7:20. That line moved pretty quick and I was in and out within minutes. However, there was a crush of people trying to get out to the corrals and by the time I made it out, the first three corals has already cleared out. My start time was something like 7:41AM
and all of the pace bunnies were long gone. I had hoped to run with one of the bunnies because I didn't trust my Garmin downtown - the accuracy is way off with the tall buildings and part of the race goes underneath bridges and such. And even though I'm Canadian, I don't really know how to convert kilometers to miles
I spent the first 3 miles of the race just passing people and trying to get into a less crowded space. I passed a whole bunch of pace bunnies - the 3:00 half marathon, 4:45 full marathon, 2:45 half marathon and the 2:30 half marathon but never did find that 2:15 bunny. I ran my 10/1 intervals for most of the race but had a hard time getting in enough air because of the humidity. And like Sue, I ran into a few of the aid stations with full flavour Gatorade - yuck!!
I struggled a bit with the last mile and the last stretch to the finish line - I'm not sure why. I had to force myself to keep running. I didn't have anything left for a final kick at the end. I'm not sure it would have mattered since there were a lot of people finishing at the same time and I would have had to dodge around people. Anyway, I ended up with a PB of 2:15:48
I really wished I had a stronger finish but there will be other races.
Tonight I'm off to the gym for a light workout. No major aches or pains - except for sore shoulder but I think that's from sleeping in a strange position and not the race. I also have to start packing for Thursday...
Sue - Congrats on your marathon!! Sorry to hear about the Gatorade and stomach ache. I didn't encounter any irrate drivers but there were a lot of pedestrians who were confused about where to cross. I know it's difficult for the race organizers but I wish there was some way to let people cross Bay Street without having to go all the way up to Dundas or down to the Lakeshore.
Kim - Did you have a difficult time getting around the city to watch Kevin at different points in the race? I saw the traffic gridlock on the news last night.
Connie - Good luck with the dress alterations! Moms are always great with things like that. I'm going to PM you my mileage for September tonight. Don't think I'll have any time to run before I leave on Thursday.
Margie-
for DD! I hope she makes a speedy recovery.
Dave - Hope you feel better soon! Glad to hear that Aiden is doing well!
Jennifer - I like your name choices
Post pictures when you pick your little one out!
Have a great day everyone!
