Hakuna Matata - Bustin' out in June!

I'm still whipped from my hot humid 9 miler this morning. I needed it to start getting heat acclimated. The summer races here all often very hot and humid so need to get ready. Right now my body is mad at me.

Have a great evening team mates.

Thanks Margie, I think future father's days are going to be better.

Hi team! Happy Father's Day to all the dads on our team! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Nice sunny weather in Toronto - it's a little hot for running but better than cold weather or rain. I did 7.5 miles this morning - I keep forgetting to get out earlier. It was quite hot running under the sun and after 10AM, there isn't much shade either.

So I did my 5K yesterday. It was at the airport on a closed runway - I think there were about 1,000 people in for the run. Not sure of the numbers for the 2K walk or the 1K kids run. The race organizers warned us that there had been reports of hail and/or thunderstorms but luckily the rain held off until the afternoon.

I decided to leave the packet pickup until the day of the race. Which wasn't necessarily a bad idea but I should have gotten there much earlier. I ended up having to unlace my shoe to get the chip on and I was panicking a little bit because most of the 5K runners had already gone out to the starting corrals. Luckily, DF was there to help get the chip on and stayed nice and calm :)

The runway was windy! I didn't realize how strong the wind was until I started running. Because the runway was so wide, the runners were spread out and there was no one to draft and so I spent the first 2/3 of the course was running directly into the wind. Naturally, at the turnaround, the wind stopped so I didn't get anything pushing me to the finish. I did spot a ROTE runner on course and stopped to chat with him. I forgot to ask him for his name so I don't know who he is but I think he knows Jeff and Scott. I had a little bit of trouble running after the turnaround. I think running into the wind took a lot more out of me than I expected. I stopped a few times for walking breaks. I ended up finishing in 27:24 and placed 11/97 in my category and 250th overall (you can tell it was a small race  ) I think if I hadn't taken all those breaks, I should have been closer to 26:00 but that will be a goal for my next 5K. :thumbsup2 I posted a few pics on my FB, not sure how to post them here.

Jennifer - pixiedust: I'm glad you're okay! Listen to your body and make sure you're fully recovered before you go running.

Dave - Same here trying to get use to running in hot weather. But the next time the Olympics are held some place hot and humid like Beijing, I'll be ready! Hahaha!!

Kim - Did you and Mike do okay getting around downtown on Friday? We got a memo at work to dress casually at work on Monday. They don't want the protestors giving us a hard time if we're business attire.

Margie - for Hagen! How's he doing? Glad to hear the walks with Nikki are going well!!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Congratulations, Vicky! :cheer2: :cheer2:

WTG- I think you had great time!
Seen your pictures posted on Face Book- love the medal and the breakfast!

Mike-are you back - did you do your race today?

19th Vicky-Toronto Pearson Runway Run / 5K
20th Mike-Warrior Dash /wave start 1:30 pm/ Joliet, IL

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there :)

I'd give anything to spend time with mine. I just sent mine a card :guilty:

Had a very very busy day today with the holiday, made a bunch of dads happy by having plenty of 'lobstas' on hand for them. Started the day with about 150 pounds, got it down to about 50 before I left. It hurt too. Way too under scheduled for the day. I was a stinky ball of sweat covered in lobster poo at the end of the day.

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Monday, June 21st all ready – Where does the time go!

Hope everyone enjoyed the Special Father’s Day weekend!

High 85° - Humid; Partly cloudy; PM Thunderstorms.

FYI: :cool1:

Today is the Summer Solstice. Sunrise: 6:05 AM - Sunset: 9:22 PM
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year.
From this point, the days will become shorter and the nights longer,
until the winter solstice on Dec. 21.

Dave-I do hope next year is better too!

Hope-Yuck-I am sorry that smell is awful! :flower3:

Kim- we expect a weekend update! :upsidedow

Mike- Where Are You! Getting concerned you were it the
storms path on Friday night (?) :scared1:

Robert- we know you are busy but we do miss you! :goodvibes
Hope you are enjoy the busy RD schedule.

Sue- did you get to see Toy Story 3?
If so what did you think?
Suitable for a 3-yr old?

Vicky-Nikki and I are about the same pace.
It is comfortable for me and we go her schedule as
she is the one in training. I am getting the benefits
of a very nice Walking Buddy.

Hagen and parents went camping for Father's Day Weekend...
Great family weekend - hard for me...I feel a bit lost.
I have talked to him, but it is not the same! :goodvibes :sad1:

Good morning team.

Margie, I'm sure next year is going to be better. I can feel it. Haven't seen Toy Story 3 yet but I'm going to see the karate kid on Wed. It looks good and I like Jackie Chan.

I think I'm going to have to lace my shoes different on each foot. I started lacing them a bit different to take pressure off my lower shin, which made my achillies tendonitis feel better but irritated my right heel. So today I changed it back and my achillies is singing and my right heel feels better. So I'm keep the right normal and doing the other method on my left for the next walk.

Vicky, yes let's be ready for the Olympics. Mine will be in Houston in July 2011 so it will be a hot one.

Dave:hippie:

Feeling sorry for yourself should be one of the deadly sins, or at least Thou Shall Not Feel Sorry For Yourself should be one of the TEN Commandments. It just empowers you with an excuse for not moving forward. Use your God given ability to get your Grrrrrrrr on and make the changes that are needed. Then when someone asks you what's happening you can say "I am, Grrrrrrrr!"

That is my message to me this morning. If it hits a nerve with anyone else get your own best Grrrrrrrr on and get after it.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team! I decided to try something different and take my running rest day on Tuesday instead of on Monday. I figure this way, Tuesday will be a complete rest day - no training or running. I'll have to see how that goes.

I was flipping through some of the pics from the 5K race and found out that the person wearing the bib who came in 10th in my age category was a guy! :rotfl: I guess someone sold or gave their bib away ... I couldn't find any pics of me which seems about right since I don't remember seeing any photographers on course.

My PT is away on vacation this week so I'm changing things up and training with my chiro instead. I worked out with him yesterday and did metabolic and core exercises. They were pretty tough and I didn't realize how sore I was today until I reached up with my hands to stretch. Ouch! It's funny how tough new exercises can be :)

I have Thursday and Friday off this week so I'm going to get my haircut. I'm thinking of getting bangs cut so that might be interesting. I hope it looks good! And then I'll try going to see Toy Story 3 on Friday.

Dave - Your post hit a nerve with me today. I'll admit I've been feeling down and sorry for myself lately. I'm still getting in my running and training but definitely trying to make myself better with a little food therapy. I think I'll use your post as that kick in the butt I need to get myself back on track.

Hope - That's a lot of lobster! Hope you were able to get the smell out. I have a friend who imports tropical fish so I can pretty much imagine what the fishy smell was like.

Margie - I always go for pancakes after a race! I guess after a 5K, it's pretty silly but I figure it's a good reward :) How's Hagen doing?

Sue - Did you go and see Toy Story 3 on the weekend? I'm trying to decide whether to see it in regular or 3D ... or spend the extra $$ and go for 3D IMAX. How are you making out with the security fences? Are there long waits to have your ID checked? I walked underground today and no one was checking.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi team!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

It's awful. Then you add in the sweat smell, it's a wonder Nick let me in the door without hosing me off in the yard before hand. I got the smell out of me and everything, so it's good.

We have wedding shoes! Beautiful blue heels, surprisingly comfortable when you put them on right. I tried them on in the store and fit fab. when I tried them on with the dress, Nick couldn't get them on right so they hurt a little. I couldn't see to correct him or sit to do it. I'm so excited! But a little bummed too. I have pretty much everything now and have to wait for my trip to WDW to finish planning. How am I going to fill my time now?

Sometimes the things we desire seem take forever to happen. Whether it's finally time to leave on a long awaited vacation or you finally accomplish a goal you have been working toward. But in this day of having everything right now, it is comforting to me that there are still experiences that are worth waiting for.

Your Panda thought of the day.

I'm still having fits with my right foot PF, the left achillies tendonits is much better after regular stretching and icing for the last month. I'm taking a few days off after this morning's group training walk. I'll still play in the pool and stretch though.

Vicky thank you for what you said.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Went to see TS3. LOVED it!!!!!!!! Saw the 2d version. Anything I had read online said 2d was just fine & it worked into our schedule better.

Vicky, Enjoy your "forced" long weekend. No issues this week so far. The trains & Bay St. have been really quiet. Doesn't seem that the major lock down will be til after Fri. night rush hour. I think I will make out fine.
I'm up for a hair cut on Sat. also. Remember say "No to Bangs"

Interrupted again by work.........got to go.

Spin class tonight. Have a great Wed. everyone.........Sue

Hi ya Team,

I'M BACK! I'm sorry that I haven't posted since our trip, but we had a ton of things to catch up on at home. Our grass was about ten inches high, a tree brach took down our phone and cable wires and I had to fix them, so on, so forth... I have been dilligent and read everyone's postings so far!
We had a great trip! WDW was hot, and the locals were complaining it was too early in the year for the heat. Most days it was in the upper ninetys and almost no breeze at all. The parks were the busiest that I have ever seen them, but it was my first summer time trip.
The Everest Challenge was alot of fun, but again, HOT! We got to meet up with Kirstie and her husband, and her daughter and service dog Tinkerbell! Kirstie was working as a volunteer at the race. (Gerry, I owe you an apology as I forgot to write down your phone number in the pre-trip chaos, so sorry we missed meeting you) The obstacles were alot less challenging than previous years and were now incorperated into the 5K portion. I finished 20th in the indvidual men's category! Liz finished 51st if I remember right. I saw Kirstie again after the race and she had said that someone had broken their femur on the balance beam obstacle (compound fracture). We had a great time and will hopefully go again next year!
I have officially signed up for the Wine and Dine Half marathon in October! I will be attending solo, but two weeks later we will be back down as a family as they had a bouceback deal for a cheaper room rate. Yes! More time at Disney!
The trip was fun, we tried some new (to us) restaurants, did the Backstage Magic tour, all four parks, and Typhoon Lagoon. I also found the courage to ride the Tower of Terror and the Rock and Roller coaster for the first times. I also gained nine pounds from too much food and way too much drink. ( I highly recommend Test Track after a few beers- way more fun!) :cool1:
I'll report on the other two races from last weekend later on!

Gerry~ We are again so sorry that we missed you, glad you had fun at the race!

Jennifer~ I'm sorry about your car accident, I've been there myself. Good luck at the Miss USA preliminary! Wowza! pirate:

Dave~ Good luck with your PF and tendon! Why doesn't Disney have Pandas?

Margie~ Glad that you found a workout buddy! Hope Hagen is doing well!

AFM~ I would like to post to everyone but there is so much to remember! I am impressed by how much all of you do, and get done! I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and sleeping during the daytime again. The weather here is hot, humid , and very stormy, with more predicted. No races for me this weekend as I still have a ton of yardwork to catch up on. Liz and Robert are racing on Sunday morning. Liz also signed up for a sprint distance triathalon in August! I have to get back on training, I'm feeling down and out! As Dave puts it, I have to get my GRRRRR! on!

Your Teammate, Mike :cool2:

Good Morning, Team!
Hope- Nice! do we assume you could not sit down due to your dress?

What a guy-I have never had anyone put my shoes on! :bride:

Yes, there was no cat fur free areas, so we just got them on to check them out and called it a day. I would like to try to avoid getting cat fur on the dress. The day of, the future sister in law or someone else will help me. The "ladies in waiting" as he referred to them since he's getting booted out so the girls can take over. It would take a very strong man to with stand FIVE women getting ready for a wedding.

Yea, he's a keeper :lovestruc

Mike....enjoyed your trip report. Interesting that someone actually suffered a fracture on the balance beam at EE. I say that because when DH and I ran it last year in the MONSOON, we skipped the balance beams alltogether because DH said, and I quote, "That looks like a good way to break your leg!"
Of course, it was pouring at the time, and the beams were soaking wet.

Great to hear that you've signed up for Wine and Dine. I'll be there doing the relay with DH. I'll be sure to wear my WISH shirt!

AFM: Having some trouble with my pesky knee again. Must call the orthopedist tomorrow to get a recheck. It's been two years since she looked at it, and I just want to make sure there's nothing funny going on. Got a massage today and the therapist said my right IT band was tight, but it's the left knee that's giving me trouble. Go figure. :confused3

For all those who feel like they're living in a sauna...stay as cool as you can, and if you go out to run, be careful.

Team Hakuna Matata Weekend Racers!

We are cheering for you :cheer2::cheer2:

June 26th
Jennifer- Helen Keller Festival 5-mile Race
Regina, DH, and Friend- Meridian Barn Sour / 6K

Good morning guys.

Mike thanks for the report on the race, I think this is the last year for that one isn;t it?

MJ feel better, knee issues are no fun.

Good luck to the racers this weekend.

Sally says HI.

I'm taking a rest day today, my feet are demanding it.
