Holey moley! It's May already :goodvibes I don't know about you guys but the good weather here seems to come and go. One day it's warm and sunny, the next it's chilly and rainy. I say bring on the sunshine and warm weather! :thumbsup2

So has everyone picked out their races for January or decided if they're coming? I think we've got at least one team member in each of the races! Awesome! :thumbsup2 If I've missed any of your races on the team calendar, let me know.

:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Verticalchaos, aka Beth- I'm 39 and live in NYC. I teach students with autism. I'm a fairly new runner - started with the Couch to 5K program at te end of June. So far I've run 2 5Ks and a 10K - and I'm training for the WDW Half in January and the DL Half in September. And I may throw another Half in there somewhere. I've been actively working on losing weight since May and am down 19 pounds and at my lowest weight in over 10 years. No kids...just one very bratty and noisy Quaker Parrot named Benjamin Coffin the Bird (Benny for short).

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. There has been a great deal of stress in my life recently that I do not have the ability to change right now, so I decided to try running to help manage the stress and give myself goals to work toward and focus on. Right now I’m working toward my first half marathon in October (Wine and Dine).

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

Never mind ... got the poll up! :thumbsup2

Hey Vicky, I voted for Friday morning and Sunday night but would be game for either. Just wondering if I would be finished the 1/2 on Saturday showered and back to Kona with no rental car? My goal right now is a 2:30 - 3:00 half but could possibility be 3:30 as well don't know at this point.

/
Hello team!

Vicky- Can you add Patrick and I to the Donald for January? I voted for Friday morning and Sunday night, but either would be ok with me.

I hope you are feeling better.

Right now, we're thinking of staying at Pop. But, depending on what kind of discounts come out, I might look at different hotels. We stayed at POFQ and AKL on our trip last December. We liked both.

Saylan - I agree $18 dollars isn't reasonable. I'd be interested in the tattoos if you make them.

You can find a list of past discounts on the mouse savers website to get an idea of what might be offered.

AFM - DH and I went to a Renaissance Fair yesterday. It was just ok, very crowded and very hot outside. DH's birthday was last week. He wanted donuts for his birthday, so I stacked up donuts to make a cake.

I've not been motivated this past week and haven't worked out much. DH and I are supposed to go out later today. We're definitely not going to be trained enough for our 10k. I was hoping we'd get a good qualifying time to use for better corral placement for the half but I don't think that's going to happen.

Have a good day!
Emily

I'm going Goofy again, #4. It's what I need to do since I will turn 60 in oct I need a PR for both races. I'm going to be lean and hard and strong as a panda bear.

I voted for Friday morning since I'll be racing saturday and sunday.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Team!

Dave- I’m glad one of our team mates checked up on you to make sure you were ok after the storms. I hope you enjoyed your weekend with Sally.

Saylan- I’m glad you were able to make a decision on a candidate. How did DBF get ill disposed gum all over his clothes? Happy Anniversary! I hope you and DBF had a nice weekend.

Emily- Good luck with your run today! I hope you’re able to get your motivation back to continue training.

Vicky- Thanks for the new WISH code! Also, great job on your 4 mile run today!

AFM, DH and I ran yesterday and today. Yesterday’s run was awful. The wind was really bad and we had eaten McDonald’s about an hour before the run. Let’s just say it was rough! I ended up walking one of my running sets because my left side was hurting so bad. Then when I started my next running set my right side was hurting with my left side. So I ended up adding another run/walk set to make up for the one I walked and both my sides hurt the entire set. I was so glad to be done with that run! Today’s run went much better! It was a beautiful day, the wind was not all over the place and we had a good time. Thank goodness the bad days don’t happen very often. :thumbsup2

Last night we went cosmic bowling and to dinner with some of DH’s coworkers. I haven’t been cosmic bowling since high school. We had a good time, although I must say they are a crazy bunch of guys. It was nice to meet some of DH’s coworkers and I was so happy that DH finally had a few days off. Who knows when he’ll get another full weekend off.

Oh, and I voted for Kona breakfast Friday morning. I hope everyone else enjoyed their weekend too!

I guess I should ask where the heck Kona is?

Good morning team.

I had a good weekend with Sally, but she is off again to Tenn, we are planning to make the weekends a regular event.

Still stormy and yucky here but I managed to get in a super training walk. I started in the mall and then when it slacked off took off outside. I had a couple of miles at a sub 12 min per mile pace.

I need to start doing a training log again.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Team,

Found the new thread. I'll post race reports tomorrow or Wednesday if I can, leaving for WDW on Thursday morning from work. I'm gonna kick butt at the Everest Challenge!

Dave~ the Kona Cafe is at the Poly, on the monorail level, next to Ohana. We always sit and point at the throng of people waiting for Ohana, while we are already eating. Hah!

Vicky~ where can I find the pol for the meeting?

Regina~ you are right, Everest was in June of last year, Sept in 2009 and 2008, this year-next weekend

Be back here soon, Mike :cool2:

duh, found the poll, right in front of me:confused3

Thanks Mike, I have an FE with the DisneyRunning group on the Thursday before the Goofy every year. So going back to the Poly the next morning for breakfast will be great.

I even wrote a new Panda Rambling today. Amasing what you can do when your off and it's storming.

Dave:hippie:

Me again! voted for 11am Friday as I am doing the family 5K at 630 am at Epcot. I figure I'll be done by 7am, have to catch a bus to the POP, shower, bus to MK and monorail to the POLY, or take a cab direct from the POP to the POLY depending on how close I'll be cutting it with time.

Sunday night would be great for dinner, just leave us enough downtime to recover a little, or Monday would be great too! (voted Sunday)
-Mike :cool2:

What weekend are we talking about for the Kona meet? I was assuming it was the January Goofy trip. If it is would everyone be recovered enough from the half to wonder over to the Poly by 11am? If I get started at 6:30 it will take me about 2:45 to walk the half, that's 9:15 accross the finish line and not a lot of time to walk back to the hotel, shower and walk to the Monorail.

Maybe in addition to the Kona breakfast on friday, an early supper at Mama Rosa at the Studios on saturday before we go to ground to rest for the marathon.

Dave:hippie:

Hello Team!

Just checking in. I'm taking a rest day today, so not much going on here.

Mike - Good luck at Everest!

Regina - Bowling sounds like it was a lot of fun. I haven't been bowling in years, unless you count Wii bowling

Have a good night!
Emily

So maybe instead of a Saturday breakfast at Kona ... we could do a Saturday lunch or dinner carb load. I forgot that it would be tight. Breakfast is my favourite meal at Disney so I'm not sure about lunch or dinner places. Whispering Canyon Cafe is pretty awesome but lots of meat. I love Boma but maybe not before a race  ... Wolfgang Puck's sit down in DTD has a few pasta + protein options. Mama Melrose like Dave suggested, will everyone have park passes? I was trying to pick restaurants outside of the parks just in case. I haven't done back to back races before so I'm not sure how I should be eating on Saturday.

Mike - Good luck at Everest and safe travels! WTG on the back to back races - you're going to rock Goofy!!

Regina - I've eaten at McD's and then gone running. Totally agree that it's not pretty! Sounds like cosmic bowling was a blast! I don't bowl so I have to ask how that's different than regular bowling. Good job on getting in the running :)

Dave - Glad to hear you're okay after the storms! I hope you get some dry weather soon or you really might need that ark.

Emily - The fair sounds fun! Did you and Patrick get dressed up in costumes? Good luck on your 10K! Better under trained and uninjured and you never know what might happen! If you don't get a good time, there's plenty of time to work on a better time between now and January.

Kim - I have to admit that I've gone to breakfast directly after a race  Usually when I run Scotia, I'm hungry enough that I can't wait to sit through traffic, go home and shower so I usually just eat downtown. LOL I usually just bring a change of clothes but I hear ya! I'd feel better with a shower :)

Saylan - The tattoos would be too cool! Keep us posted ... $18 is too much. I've seen a couple of Canadian sites that do custom temp tattoos but the minimum orders seem to start at 1,000.

AFM - I went out running on the weekend. Pain-free for the most part and I seem to be able to maintain a slightly faster pace for some of the splits. I'm still working on being able to run longer distances continuously. My 30K training doesn't start for another couple of weeks so I still have time.

My eating is back on track and I'm looking forward to getting rid of this extra weight! I saw some of my FB pictures from last year and I definitely need to put in some work to get back to where I was.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Good morning y'all.

It's still storming this morning and it's 47 degrees, that is unheard of for the south in May! We are over 8 inches of rain fall above normal for the year. About 13 years ago we had a wet start to the year then drought conditions for the next couple of years. That was hard on farms and yards.

I'm off to the mall for my hour training walk then working a 12 hr shift.

Vicky eating the day before a marathon is easy just eat normally except go easy on the spicey.
