Hakuna Matada - Let's March!

Not sure what my race schedule will be this year. It all depends on how flexible Sally's schedule will be. I'll be doing the local races but traveling might be on hold for a while.

I have a race 5K this weekend that will be fun and low pressure since I'm just getting over that long illness. I was sick with that flu bug for 3 weeks and before that I was in recovery mode from the Goofy.

Hello!

It's a beautiful day here so outdoor exercise is already scheduled. Now to get my eating under control. I actually lost a couple of pounds while at Disney but I've gained them back due to stress at home and work. I really need to figure out how to combat this.

Vicky: I'm doing okay with the push ups although my DH just pointed out to me that my form is less than perfect. We'll see how many I can do when I perform them properly. I have gained some strength from it already. :thumbsup2

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Hi team! Nice and sunny today - looks like spring really is just around the corner :) I went for a quick 5K this morning. It went pretty well except the wind was blowing at me no matter which direction I went in. I used RunKeeper Pro and the distance was the same as the Garmin. I did forget to turn it off when I stopped running so I had a few extra minutes added to my time LOL I'm hoping to get out tomorrow morning for a quick run as well.

Fellow WISH'er, smileyk8 is doing a survey on online running/exercise groups for school. Here's the link if you have a few minutes:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/sportandexercise

Beth/Mike/Dave - Good luck on your run tomorrow!

Elizabeth - I think my form gets pretty bad near the end as well. I'm glad it's helping you to feel stronger!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey team! Jut up and drinking my coffee. I saw Beth is out there and ready to go...can't wait to see how she does and hear a race report! Me? I'm gonna head out in a bit for a 9.5 miler then spend the rest of my day with my boys. Might go to the mall and find myself an Easter dress. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!! pirate:

Hello team!

Beth - Great job, congrats on your PR!

Vicky - Are you refering to Tim Burton the filmmaker? I love Nightmare Before Christmas! What is the purpose of compression socks?

Mike - Hope your race went well today!

AFM - I had a pretty lazy weekend. We did a 2 mile walk Friday night, my stomach was bothering me so I didn't feel like running. We didn't get out Saturday and it's been raining really hard all day today.

I spent Saturday afternoon making corned beef. I roast it in Guinness and DH really likes it, so I make for him every St Patrick's day.

We signed up for the DL 5k. Still haven't made a decision about the January marathon weekend. DH is concerned about doing more than a half because we both did not feel well after the DL half last year. I also want to find a half marathon for this year but our schedules are in flux so haven't picked a race yet.

Pixie dust to those who need it!

Have a good night,
Emily

Good morning team! Happy Monday! It's a bit wet and rainy here but at least it's not snow!

Emily - The corned beef sounds yummy! It's one of my favourites but I've never tried making one myself. Is it a lot of work?

Yes, Tim Burton the director/artist of Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands fame. The exhibit was the same one that was at MoMA last year I believe. It was a little pricey but extremely interesting to see his sketches costumes up close. I was curious about what his teachers, parents etc. thought of his drawings - I wonder if anyone found all the disembodiment disturbing.

Beth - Congrats on your half! Saw your pics on FB and I'm off to read your RR after I'm done posting!

Eva - Any luck finding a dress? WTG on your run this weekend :)

AFM - I saw the Tim Burton exhibit on the weekend and it was pretty interesting. It was a little too crowded so it took a bit longer to go through but it was awesome seeing his drawings, notes, costumes, props etc. I definitely have to go back and rewatch some of his earlier films. I also went to a new brunch place where they had green eggs and ham on the menu. The green eggs was just pureed spinach mixed into the eggs (I thought it was herbs). Super yummy! I even bought the cookbook from the restaurant LOL!

I've got a quick training session tonight and will try to hop on the bike for 30 minutes afterward to get in the extra cardio and that's about it. I'm still going easy on the running but have managed to put in a couple outdoors miles!

How's everyone else doing? Anything interesting happen on the weekend?

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Yes, we do get alot of wind, it was something we had to learn about when we moved here - things like parking your car into the wind so the wind would not take off the door when you opened it, or not opening both car doors at the same time unless you wanted to really clean out your car (everything would blow out of it), not having any light weight lawn furniture, or you would not have it very long! The wind is the reason we need to water our trees in the winter(as there is no snow cover to protect them).

We rode 11.6 miles on Saturday (laps around our area, often against a good wind), and 18 miles on Sunday - most of that was on the bike path, against some wind on the way out, tail wind on the way back! Do not think I am ready for 63 miles in one day!

Eva - Hope you found a dress!

Beth - Glad to hear you had a good race! Great report! Congrats on the PR!

Dave - Hope you had a good weekend, let us know about Sally’s job!

Emily - Scott and I have also signed up for DL 5K, we will be cheering or volunteering for the 1/2.

Gerry - Have a great cruise!

AFM - Over the weekend we got out on the bikes both days, dogs got walks both days. It was a bit windier than I would have liked for bike riding, but that made the rides good workouts! Today might be nice enough to get outside for bike ride again. Supposed to be really warm (68) but it will be cooling off tomorrow.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Wonderful walk this morning, 62 degrees and warm morning sun. We walked in a large wooded park enjoying the clean air and the smells of nature. Oh how I have missed warm morning walks.

Sally and I both work the evening shift today so we had the morning together for walking and getting our marketing done.

Lynn, Sally likes her job so far. She is going to be in training for a while, they are an answering service for doctors offices, clinics and home health places all over the country.

Have a day filled with magic and wonder.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - hope Sally enjoys the job, sounds like it could be interesting! The morning walk sound nice!

AFM - Yesterday got in a walk with the dogs, a Pilates tape and some weights, although it was supposed to be calm, the wind was a bit too strong for me to get out on the bike. Scott even wimped out of riding home from work (the wind is usually a tail wind for him coming home, but yesterdays would have been a head wind.) Today we are under a high wind warning (wind up to 60 mph), so I think it will be an inside exercise day. I did get trees watered yesterday, as it was the warmest day of the week.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Nope no luck on the dress...I'm picky. I don't want to look too flashy for Easter, but I want it to be something I like so I will wear it again. I once bought a cute pants outfit with pastel pink pants and a cute top. Maybe I'll go that route. It will also inspire me to lose these last few stubborn pounds. I feel like I gotta have a cute butt for pink pants! :rotfl:

Elizabeth - I have stayed at at All Star Movies and All Star Music...and I loved them both. Like Vicky said...it is a little father out than the other resorts so beware of road closures and traffic.

Dave - Glad to hear that Sally is liking the new job. Does she have to deal with panicing mothers in the middle of the night with sick babies? I know I've made a call or two to that type of service before. I always feel bad for the folks that I have to talk to...

Vivky - I registered for the Cleveland Half so we are good to go with that for the race calendar. I am really liking the run/walk method! I did the 4run/1 walk on Sunday and felt pretty good afterwards!!

Lynn - I really don't know how you guys ride bikes with all of that wind. You'd think you'd get blown right over!! :scared1:

Beth - Loved the race report...glad to hear you had a fun time out there! That's what it's all about!

To the rest of the team...:grouphug:

Hope everone is doing well!

It was a gorgeous day here so I spent a little extra time on my run. Coming back, I realized that the worst yard in the cul de sac is my own. Guess I know what I'll be doing on Saturday. Oh well, weeding counts as an aerobic activity, right?

Eva: Good luck finding the perfect outfit. I always end up doing the pants thing too but this year I'm determined to find a dress!

Vicky: Nothing to add on the race calendar for me yet. My DH is still unemployed since his layoff last summer so I hesitate to register for any races yet. Those nonrefundable fees can really add up. I still have another Disney half on my dream schedule and actually have a value room reserved for the 2011 Wine and Dine but that is easily canceled if need be. DH has a phone interview scheduled for Thursday so keeping my fingers crossed that this might be the one.

Everyone else:
Enjoy the rest of the week!

Hi team!!

Elizabeth and Eva ~ Good luck on the dress shopping!

And Elizabeth ~ Sending good vibes to your DH!! Fingers crossed!

Lynn ~ Good job on the exercises so far! Hope the rest of the day went well!!

Dave ~ Glad things are going well!

Vicky ~ Ooh I LOVED the Tim Burton exhibit!!!! It was soooooo cool!!! I saw it at MoMA when it was here. I made sure to get a ticket for the first entry of the day so I didn't have to wait in line or have a TON of people to squish in with.

AFM ~ PT went well today. I didn't see my usual guy, but the other one who's there. They consulted on me beforehand, so Eric was up to speed. He was impressed with how loose things were considering I just ran a HM. Still a little tightness on the ITB, and a little tenderness on my right hamstring. But overall nothing too terrible.

It looks like Marathon Weekend I may get to finally stay at the Poly!! It's also my dad's 70th birthday weekend, and e and my mom want to see me run, so we're going to make a big celebration of it. My sister can't get CM rates on anything until 6 months out, so we'll have to see what they are, but she's said upfront to him "If you really want to stay at the Poly once, this would be the time to do it." I think our back-up is the Yacht and Beach Club. Whee!!!!

Oh...and I've got 3 more races...

5/8/11 ~ NYRR Japan Day 4M
5/17/11 (yes, on a Tuesday evening) ~ NYRR American Heart Association Start! Wall Street Run 3M
6/11/11 ~ NYRR New York Mini 10K
Those plus the others I've done and have on the calendar will get me guaranteed entry into the 2012 NYC Marathon!!!! Hooray!!!!!

Hope all are well!!

~beth

Good Morning Team!

Eva - We do not ride the bikes in high wind, have gone out a few times in moderate wind, and it is a grunt! Hope you find an Easter outfit!

Beth - Great news on the lodging for Marathon Weekend!

Elizabeth - Good luck and Pixie Dust to your DH on his interview!

AFM - Yesterday just a bit windy! When I walked the dogs, it was blowing 25-35mph, maybe even higher gusts because a few times I had to stop and plant my feet to not be blown over! Later in the afternoon, our wind gauge indicated 40 miles an hour sustained and gusting up to 64 mph! That continued until late evening. Today is much calmer! Other than a slow dog walk (it is hard walking against 30+ mph winds!), I spent an hour on the exercise bike.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Well things are finally looking up for Sally and I. I'm well and she got her first pay check, Live is good.

I went for a 6 miler with my race walking group this moning and felt like my old self again. Never got where I felt like I couldn't hold pace at all. Still not fast, we were cruising at 12:30 per mile but it was very comfortable. I even attacked one of the steep hills.

Sounds like everyone is doing good. Not sure yet about the January Disney trip. We are waiting till Sally has some job time before she approaches them about a week of un paid vacation since she doesn't get paid vacation till a year. If we do go it looks like we will be doing a value resort.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team! We got another dumping of snow - light but still. Enough already  I'm glad I got out for a run last night. I'm going to try going to the gym tonight but it will depend on the roads - there were lots of cars sliding around so if it's slippery, I'm going to pass.

Dave - Glad to hear things are getting back on track for you - finance and exercise wise :) I hear ya on the vacation. The Disney races aren't cheap - especially when two people are racing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be able to make it!

Lynn - We have a couple of wind tunnels in the city and many times, I've opened my door into the wind - yikes! And I've also opened both doors at the same time and had the car cleaned out as well  For the bike ride, can you stop and take breaks in the middle?

Beth - I'll get you added to the calendar shortly! You're quite the racing fiend! Oh and I loved all the sketches that Burton did! Makes me wish I could draw something more than a stick figure with a happy face. Oh and the colors! Wow! I wish some of those were turned into prints.

Definitely do the Poly if you can! Staying at a monorail resort and travelling to the start of the race is sooooo convenient! You don't have to get up as early and the trains aren't packed. YC & BC are nice but my favourite is the Poly hands down!

Elizabeth - I think any kind of housework or chore counts as aerobic activity :) I hear ya on the non refundable fees. I wish that Disney would have the option to transfer to another runner like other races do. Hope things go well for DH on Thursday! Sending him lots of luck, good thoughts and pixiedust: Keep us posted!

Eva - I'll get you added to the race calendar as well! I really like the run/walk intervals. One day I'll be able to run a really long distance continuously but this works just as well until then. I've also found that if you're able to run each interval in the 9-10 m/m range, you don't really lose that much time.

How much weight have you lost so far? Do you want me to add it to the team page (I'm so bad at keeping track of everyone  )? If you're able to cut out refined sugars, as well as white breads, white rice and white pasta - it's a really great way to drop the pounds. The pink pants sound really cute :) Do you have an Easter outfit for Gage?

AFM - I got out last night and did a 5K run. I still can't go continuously but used 10/1 intervals. I managed to get my average pace to 9:58 m/m which normally isn't a big deal for me but it's my first fast run (though not completely pain free). I even got in one interval at just over 9 m/m. Stupid Run Keeper didn't record all the miles so my average pace worked out to 10:27 m/m or something like that. Grrr!!

Hope things are well with everyone! :wave2:

Hi Team,

Checking in after a long hiatus! It's good to see that everyone is doing well. We got our new cellphones, the HTC Thunderbolts, which we love. I've spent alot of time playing with it, so I haven't been online with our laptop.

I survived and conquered the Hillstriders half marathon last Sunday. I say survived because the weather turned from bad to worse as we went. Exactly at the start guns sound it started to rain and the wind started. The course had lots of steep hills and is know as a very difficult course. I ran the first mile and a half, and then started using a run 4, walk 1 for the rest of the race. There is something like 12 hills each with its own name. As we ran the rain eventually became a constant downpour the wind started gusting, and towards the end the lightning and thunder came on with lots of ground strikes. I finished just before they called the race in 2:20:25. I was soaked through and couldn't stop shaking at the finish as the temperature dropped quite a bit. I took a very hot shower when we got home, just to thaw out.
Liz was my cheerleader as she didn't run this one. About and hour later, hail and damaging winds came through the area we were just in. I've never run in hail, and glad that I didn't get the opportunity Sunday. This weekend is a 5K on Saturday with John Bingham, and the Chi town half on Sunday on the lakefront in Chicago. It's supposed to be windy with snow on Sunday, so it seems I've started my running season, but nature couldn't care less!
I see on facebook that some of you use runkeeper to track yourselves, what heart rate monitors do you use? I can now get the app for my phone.
Thursday we are getting new shoes for Liz. It seems that she has worn out her first pair of running shoes. I'm so proud!
We still don't now if we are doing the WDW marathon weekend next year. We have a choice of the WDW weekend, a marathon destination cruise, or doing the responsible thing and making extra car payments. We really need to pay off the car, so we can knock out some other bills. My heart wants to go on the cruise, but we have to find a week long sitter for Robert. If we do WDW, I'm going to sign up for the Goofy, and do the 5K, so "the Dumbo". A special Donald, fifteenth anniversary medal may be my final decision maker. Eva says I should go Goofy with her. I have vowed to get cross country skis and snowshoes to keep my fitness level up next winter. I will NOT do another WDW weekend undertrained.
Anyway, I hope to be back here soon, off to bed for me! Train on everyone!
-Mike:cool2:

I ended up with 2 training walks today. I walked 6 miles with my race walking team and then an hour with Sally that included some good up hill and into the wind action. Sally is getting stronger all the time and I'm starting to feel like my old self again. I might have to start doing some speed work here soon. I'd love to be walking sub 10 min miles by the end of the year.

We had an awesome day, we did our walk while the oil was being changed in our nissan, then some shopping and finally late lunch at the Chinese buffet.

Dave:hippie:

Hello Team!

Vicky - The Tim Burton exhibit sounds neat, I'd really like to see it. I did a search and it's coming to LA in May, so I'll have to keep it mind. The corned beef isn't too hard to make, it's time consuming though. It takes about 3 hours to roast. You rub the corned beef with brown sugar, add the beer, cover with foil and put in the oven and just flip a couple times while cooking. You can find the recipe at allrecipes.com, just search guiness corned beef.

Mike - Way to finish your race in that weather!

Dave - Glad to hear things are going well for you and Sally!

Eva/ Elizabeth - Good luck finding a dress! I think dress shopping is the worst.

Beth - Hope you get to stay at the Poly! That will be a really convenient location for the race.

AFM - We got out for a run last night, it was a bit rough for me. It's raining again so we didn't go out tonight. Not much else going on around here.

Hope everyone is well!

Have a good night,
Emily
