Hakuna Matada - Jumping into a jubilant January

But...

Treated myself to new shoes from Track Shack in downtown Orlando today

Still little sore from Half on Saturday but already registered for 5k through Universal on the 29th and next half is the Rock and Roll Country Music Half in Nashville end of April.

I guess ill look for some in between run between that one

Gerry

I went shoe looking tonight. We moved me up to a 9.5 from a 9. He had me put on some Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11s that are a bit wide to see how they felt and he put in an order for the pair in the warehouse because assuming the ones in my width feel the same as those, I found my glass slipper so to speak. LOVED them!!!

Treated myself to a sports massage today as well. That felt great. I did a little yoga workout yesterday and will be doing one tomorrow as well.

And then there's the snow-trekking I had to do this morning because the mayor decided we needed to have school. CRAZINESS!!!!!

I've got a few little races coming up - then the NYC Half on March 20. After that it'll just be NYRR races for a bit - then I'll start training for the Disneyland Half and the Wine and Dine. And then that recovery will go right into training for the WDW Full in 2012. OY!

Hi team! I'm back in Toronto! It's ch-chilly! The weekend was great and so was the full! I'll do a report tomorrow but for now I have to figure out where my car is :)

Yeah... We got some snow, by the way, Vicky. :lmao:

Beth: I'm glad you finally found a good pair of shoes! :cool1:

Lynn: I think he's getting excited. He's waiting at the passport office currently to apply for his first ever passport (awww my cute little travel virgin is growing up!)

Regina: I finally heard from them! They arrived late and there was no power or internet so they had to get the landlord over in the morning to fix it.

Boma sounds really good, I'm just concerned on how to get there from our resort without a good 1-2 hour bus ride.

Mike: I hope everything went well!

AFM: I'm also trying to hammer out room options at CBR. I'm not sure where the best places are at that resort and I would like to minimize walk-time from our room to both one of the earlier bus stops en route and food/pool amenitites.

I've gotten somewhat back on schedule for my running but I'm not too clear on how far I should aim to get in my longest long run before I have to taper for the race. I'm reading race reports for ideas of how to manage in the actual race but I'm getting nervous that I won't have time to get the miles in I need.

The bf was out most of last night with his mom but he thought of me while shopping with her: he bought me an Ariel PEZ dispenser. :rotfl:

We're considering getting him a chEAR package but I'm not sure how much they are worth it and seeing as he's never been to the parks, the idea of him going into MK for the first time without me (I'll be running the course at the time) is a little sad.

I'm also starting to make a list of things I'll need to bring and reading up more on the planning things I need to have covered since this is the first time I've ever planned a Disney trip.

Hi Everyone,

I know I promised a race report but have once again been on the go. I solemly promise to get it done this weekend, even if I have to give up watching the football playoffs!
My colonoscopy was done yesterday morning. Thanks for all the well wishes! :grouphug: The doc found a polyp, removed it and sent it in for a biopsy. He also did a EGD (esophagus and stomach exam) and found I have some diverticulosis (sp?) and took a sample for another biopsy. He said it may be caused by a bacterial infection that half of the population also gets. Antibiotics should do the trick it that is what it is. So, hopefully no cancer. I should have the results of the biopsys by next Wednesday. (yes, I'm a little stressed)

Beth~ I wear Brooks Adrenaline Gts's also. They work great for me! It also comes in a trail version also!

Dave~ Hope you are back home safe, how did Sally like WDW? Will you be doing either the Nashville Rock & Roll or the Kentucky Derby half?

Gerry~ Congratulations on your first half marathon! There is an off chance that we might do the Nashville R&R also!

Lynn, Mary and Beth ~ oficiallly as of yesterday, we will be joining you for the Disneyland half marathon! Which hotel do you prefer? I went once as a nine year old, but have no clue as to which resort would be the right choice.

I also signed up the Everest Challenge again this year. (Why do they keep changing the date each year?)

Saylan~ Relax about packing for your trip! I was totally stressed the first time we went, and then realized when we got there that they have anything you could possibly forget for sale. (Do remember your running shoes!)

Regina~ PD for your neck and the packing!

Margie~ How you doin?

Be back soon, Mike :cool2:

Good Morning Team!

Saylan - You might see if there is a WISH group volunteering for a water stop, then bf would have a group to travel with while you are running the race.

Beth - Good luck with the new shoes!

Mike - As DVC members, we will be staying at the Villas at Grand Californian, All the “on property” hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier, and Grand Californian) are nice, there are also many other hotels within walking distance, but we have not stayed at any of those for many years, so I cannot specifically recommend any.

AFM - Weather has warmed up here again, so got out for dog walk yesterday, then 30 min on spin bike and 30 min Pilates. Hope to get in the same today - the wind has picked up, but as it is warmer (40’s), it might not be so bad.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Mike....We haven't booked a hotel yet for DL. For that matter, we haven't even signed up for the race yet. However, I'm considering trying to get in at the Disneyland hotel. Part of the reason we are doing this race is to celebrate our 35th anniversary which will be in July. DH and I stayed at the Disneyland hotel on our honeymoon, so this would be a nice touch.

Sending prayers and pixie dust your way for a good outcome from your tests!

We are back in Kentucky and missing warm Florida, currently 23 degrees here, that is farenheit (F) not Canadian (C). Our drive was great except for Atlanta which had some icy spots on the road making for slow going and a traffic jam in Nashville. We still made it home in 12 hours.

I'm pleased that I was able to finish the Goofy Challenge. I'm especially proud of Sally completing her half after only 2 and a half months of training.

It was great being back at Disney and seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Next year, I think I've said this before, I'm going to go trained and ready. Seems like the last few years the marathon has been survival instead of a sporting event. Just after my nap following the half I couldn't put weight on my right foot so I knew the marathon was gonna be an EEEEEK! event. A hot soak in the tub and lots of massage allowed me to make it to the start and lots of one foot in front of the other got me through it.

I'm glad every one got through the races and are home safe, let's do it again.

Dave:hippie:

Good Afternoon Team!

Great to hear everyone had a fantastic time this weekend. I'm Goofy again.

Mike, Pd for you while you wait for your test results.

Dave, On Thursday afternoon were you walking with Sally (& Robert?)from The Studios to the Boardwalk area?

Busy at work trying to catch up. Taking tonight off. Back at it tomorrow night with a spin class. Have a great evening everyone..........Sue

Yes I believe we did go that way, we had dinner at Ohana though. I think we were just there showing Sally my favorite ride the Great Movie.

Hey everyone!!!

So happy to have my first Half under my belt!!

We are still in the World and will be returning to "real life" on Saturday!

I have so-so internet here right now and will upload more when I get back home!

I want to thank all of you, and the WISHers on the course for your support! I had a great time and you were all a part of it!

Here is a link to my official photos!

More to come!!!

(This is long ... don't feel you have to read it)

What a fun week! Not quite sure where to begin but I had so much fun seeing new and old WISHers. I got to have a dinner and a breakfast with Kim and Mike and dinner with Debra (deekaypee) and DOOD from Team 'Ohana. I stayed at the Poly and got an upgrade to CL which was awesome! It's nice being able to pop back into the lounge for a quick breakfast or at the end of the day for a drink and a quick bite. The lounge staff also remembered me from last January and made sure I had lots of food for my Sunday breakfast.

I was late for the WISH meet on Friday :( I couldn't believe that I ran into traffic on land and sea! I came out of my room and saw a boat at the dock. I ran for it and it got to MK pretty quickly. The problem was it had to queue with other boats that were waiting to dock and I ended up stuck on the Seven Seas Lagoon for about 15 minutes. I caught the Pop bus as soon as it arrived but as we turned out of MK, we hit a huge backlog of cars near the Richard Petty track/Hess gas station. We didn't move for about 10 minutes. I couldn't see a reason for the traffic except for the number cars on the road. I thought I was okay until the bus turned onto Osceola Parkway and then the bus was stuck in another jam of cars - I'm assuming they were headed to WWoS. So what was a 15 minute trip, turned into an hour and I missed the group photo. I did get a picture with Hakuna Matada minus Dave and Sally. I stuck around and had dinner with Mike, Liz, Robert, Mary and her DH. Next time I'll have to budget more travel time or just rent a car. I did run into Dave and Sally in AK on Tuesday during lunch! Forgot to get a photo though :headache:

Because it was my first full, I didn't feel comfortable scream teaming on Saturday morning. Sorry guys - I wanted to make sure I was well rested for Sunday. I knew if I got up early Saturday, I'd want to take a nap and then I wouldn't be able to sleep that night. Anyway, I headed back to the expo to get a few more pictures and to get my ankles taped up at the KT booth. I ended up having to buy some tape because I wanted both ankles taped. Btw… did anyone buying the tape notice the price on the box? The special was 1 roll for $15 or 2 rolls for $20. The price on the box was $12.99. Good deal if you're getting two rolls ... but for one...

Morning of the race, I was up at about 2:45AM. I started eating and hydrating but felt pretty nervous so I had a hard time eating. The nice thing about staying at the Poly was that I could leave later. I was on the monorail by 4:15AM and at Epcot by 4:30AM. I had forgotten how long the walk was from the start area to the corrals. I was in D which seemed to be about in the middle. I thought I'd better make another stop at the porta-potties before queueing up. The lines near the start were incredibly long. I decided to be very un-lady like and use the bushes  I found another female runner who didn't want to wait in line either so we both acted as lookouts for each other.

I got to D and found Tandy (rubato) whom I was running with. She was doing the Goofy but this was her first full also. We decided to do run/walk intervals of 10/1. We both had tendinitis and so were just looking to finish.

I have to say, I love how Disney does fireworks and gives a send off for each of the waves. We were in four so we were off just after 5:45AM. We started on running on the outside of Epcot and then made our way into the parks. I had someone waiting for me at the 4 mile mark which was the walkway from the Epcot parking lot into the park. It's always such a boost to see someone you know cheering you on! :cheer2: As we were exiting the park, I spotted Scrooge McDuck and I've always wanted a picture with him so I stopped and got a picture. I only had my iPhone so the picture didn't come out that well but I got my character pic!

I don't remember too much about the miles leaving Epcot into Magic Kingdom. My friend was waiting for me at the TTC and I was surprised that we saw each other because it was so crowded there. I did have to stop for a washroom break at this point. There was a lineup of people - but it seemed like there were lineups at the port-a-potties too so I figured I might as well use the bathrooms here.

Heading towards MK, the water bridge hill was not as bad as I remembered it. I remember hating that hill in the half marathon. I finally got rid of my throwaway shirt after running through the castle. But I still managed to get castle pictures on the ASI site even though my bib was covered. I'm guessing they added photos of me based on Tandy's bib. I didn't see too many interesting characters in MK. I saw the princess from Tangled but there was a line so I didn't bother to stop.

We came out of MK and headed down Floridian Way - that's the road that runs outside of Shades of Green, the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian. I spotted my friend again and I think I have a video of me running by quickly. We were around the 13 mile mark and I was feeling pretty good at this point still.

After we turned down Bear Island Road, I was feeling pretty hungry. If I do another marathon again, I'll have to figure out the nutrition thing. I had Clif blocs with me and I was eating them at every other water stop. This worked for me on my training runs but somehow wasn't quite enough on Sunday. Somewhere around mile 14, volunteers were handing out bananas. If you know me, I hate bananas - I'll eat fried plantains, banana bread etc. but not banana by themselves. Well, apparently I was hungry enough to eat one - it was GOOD :upsidedow

After the banana, I was still feeling hungry and my ankles started hurting. For a brief moment, I thought about not continuing. But just after mile 15, Tandy took a tumble as we were crossing the bridge. She scraped her shoulder, elbow and pinkie pretty badly. But she was awesome! She picked herself back up and we kept on running. We did stop at a med tent so she could bandage up her finger. I would have been on the side of the road crying my eyes out if that had been me. If she could keep going, there was no way I could stop.

Running through AK was fun! I think the parks had just opened and there were a lot of people at the crossing points. One thing I have to say is that even though the volunteers were trying to hurry them along as they crossed, they weren't going very fast. I'm thinking that they only had to "run" several meters, shouldn't they go faster? There was a really cool photo op with some of the Haunted Mansion characters outside the park. You could lie down in a grave and have your picture taken. I was afraid that if I did that, I wouldn't want to get back up again! :goodvibes

Once we got outside of AK, my ankles were really hurting :sad2: I decided to take a couple of Tylenol. They kicked in after about a mile and I felt a little better. We spotted a couple of WISH'ers on course handing out treats - I don't know their names but the first lady had Skittles and the second had orange slices, Twizzlers and pretzels. The orange slices were SO GOOD! Can you tell I was really hungry?

At this point I was just looking forward to the turnaround and being able to head into HS. Inside HS, I saw the volunteers handing out chocolate squares but didn't feel like I could eat any - it would have been nice if there was a water stop immediately after the chocolate.

Outside HS, we found a group of Team 'Ohana members scream teaming! We knew there was only a few miles left at this point so we kept going. But.... who should pass us at this point? Jeff Galloway! I said to Tandy that we have to beat him to the finish line! He was going pretty strong though so we had to push extra hard to keep up and pass him. He does the run/walk intervals as well so we kept passing each other. We tried to push hard and skip our walking breaks and we did end up putting in a good distance between us around Norway. We made it to Innoventions when we both decided that we badly needed that walking break. But only for 30 seconds! And then, there was the 26 mile marker sign! Tandy and I pushed for a sprint down the finishing chute but Jeff Galloway had caught up to us and passed us several seconds before we got to the finish. We chatted with him briefly before we got our medals and thanked him for pushing us through the final 5K. :thumbsup2 Our final chip time was 4:55 but that included a couple of bathroom stops, character pics and a visit to the med tent so I think we actually did better than that.

I got my medal and a few character pictures and then walked back toward the monorail to head back to the hotel. So I guess this would be the only sore point of the race for me ... I had my space blanket wrapped around me and I went through the no bags line at Epcot. I decided not to wait for my friend because he was having his bag "checked" and it would take me a while to walk up the ramp to the monorail. As I made it half way up the ramp, I got stopped by a security guard (different than the one at the no bags line). He wanted to see what was in my race pack - I forgot I had it on and I have no idea how he saw it underneath the blanket. I was PO'ed because I was cold and had my hands full with a water bottle and a piece of fruit. I also didn't have anywhere to put these things down. And you all know how hard it is to bend down after running or walking a race. A few other runners came over and held my stuff but they were annoyed as well. I mean, I wasn't even going into the park so why did he care :confused3 Must have flunked out of the police academy

But I wasn't going to let that spoil my first full! We headed back to the room, I did my ice bath, showered and we were off to celebrate at WCC for lunch! Yay! I got a massage the next morning and I had my leanies meet at B&C. A few of us got the Kitchen Sink to share and it was yummy - except the bananas ;)

So that's my first full! Thanks for reading! :cutie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Great race report!

Sue - Good luck on next years Goofy!

Dave - Glad you made it home safely! Glad you were able to finish full with bad foot (or ankle).

Mary - You should definately try to book Disneyland Hotel, remember it is a holiday weekend, so book early!

Nikki - congrats on your first half! Safe travels home!

AFM - Weather was again nice, if windy, got in a dog walk then 1 hour on the spin bike.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good Morning Team!

Nikki, Safe travels home. Enjoy the rest of your "world time"

Vicky, Nice race report & finishing time. Traffic on Friday was crazy esp. around WWoS & Osceola Pkwy. What a nice upgrade at the Poly.:thumbsup2

Dave, I ran past you on Thurs. when I was doing my 5k around Crescent Lake. I didn't clue in that it was you until it was too late. I ran past you then by the time I turned around you were gone.

Lynn, When do you leave on your cruise?

DH & I will be planning out this year's race schedule & spending time at the gym as we are expecting more snow. Have a great weekend everyone............Sue

Hi team! I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday morning! I think that one of the best parts about taking a break from training is being able to sleep in and have a more relaxed Sunday morning!

Sue - Did you get a lot of snow on Saturday? We got a good amount here and the ploughs hadn't come by to clear the sidewalks so I was glad I didn't have a run scheduled. What races are you thinking of for 2011? I know you said you were shifting towards tris ... I definitely want to do Midsummer Night's Run again but don't have anything else planned yet. And I also said I wouldn't do Disney in 2012 but the full was so much fun! I wanted to do Honolulu but for the price I'm paying to go over - I could do MCM and Disney :upsidedow

Lynn - Are you and Scott ready for your cruise? How long will you be away for? Once you get started with the weight training, I've found that the lbs will come right off!

Dave - Wow! I didn't know you were having problems with your foot! I'm glad you were able to push through and finish the full! It was great seeing you and Sally at AK! Are you going Goofy for 2012?

Mike - pixiedust: for you! I hope get good news when the test results come back! I forgot to ask how your mom's doing. I'll add you onto the race schedule for EE. It's May 7th right?

Mary - It was great meeting you and DH at the Pop meet! The DL 1/2 sounds like fun and a fantastic way to celebrate your anniversary! I hope you're able to stay at the DL hotel :) Are both you and DH running? I'll add that to the calendar as well!

Beth - Glad to hear you found a new pair of runners! I'm trying to transition to a minimalist running shoe and had to go up a half size myself. I picked up a pair of the Asics DS trainers - lighter than my NB and really comfy. For walking anyway ... I hope they work out for running! I love some of your New Year's goals btw. Your list gave me a few things to think about adding to my own :)

Saylan - I can ask another WISH'er who stayed at CBR for marathon weekend about which building is closest to the buses, food courts etc. Sometimes the closer you are to the "action" , the more noise you can hear from your room. Don't worry too much about the amount of miles you're running - I know, easier said than done. Are you looking to finish in a specific time or just to finish? For a few 1/2s that I was just finishing, I never ran more than 8 miles. Other times, I have gone up to 11 miles about 2-3 weeks before the race. Just make sure you're listening to your body - you don't want to overdo it and injure yourself. As for the temps, bring a throwaway shirt or a space blanket to the corals. You can ditch 'em before you start.

Gerry - Congrats on your first half! Sorry I missed you at the finish line on Sunday :( Were you handing out medals or space blankets? They really rush you through that area so I couldn't stick around too much. Let me know when the Nashville 1/2 is and I'll add it to the team racing calendar. Is the 5K you're doing at the end of the month called the Dick Batchelor Run?

Regina - How's your neck doing? I've pulled mine a couple of times, either from sleeping on it or just being lazy and trying to grab something while in a funny position. I like having adjustments done on my back and neck because I'm usually so stiff. It's funny how quickly chiros can do those adjustments! Is DH ready to head off? How's the packing going?

Emily - Let me know when you've signed up for some races! We've gotta get that team calendar filled! LOL I'm one to talk right!

Elizabeth - I'd love to run in Myrtle Beach one day! My dad use to take my sister and I there on vacation when we were younger! I've managed to get rid of most of the sugar from my diet as well. It's funny how much sugar is added to food. You really don't notice until you start cutting back. I know a couple of people who have Honda CRVs and love them!

Hope - How's the wedding planning going? Keep us posted and don't be a stranger :)

Denise - Saw your status update on FB - pixiedust: I hope you're feeling better soon! Have you started any new quilting projects lately?

(sorry if i missed anyone)

AFM - Not much going on this weekend. I'm just taking it easy - posting a few of my pics on FB. Here are the ones from marathon weekend if anyone's interested.

I think I've caught a cough/cold from Disney and from what I've been reading... a few other people have as well. I'm hoping it will be gone soon. I want to have my ankle looked at but don't want to go in and pass on the cold. Even though I'm doing the Princess, I'm not going to run for at least another week or at least until I have my ankle looked at. Strangely enough, my knee seems to be doing ok. Go figure :upsidedow

And if anyone has races or whatever added to the team calendar, let me know! I didn't mean to miss anyone's event intentionally.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hiya Team!

This will be my official race/trip report from WDW marathon weekend! We flew out of Chicago on Thursday morning after I worked all night. I was a little concerned as we arrived at MCO because I wasn't on the room package and thus not on the Magical Express booklet, because I have an annual pass. I should have booked a room only reservation and bought Liz and Robert's tickets seperately, but oh well. I called before I left and was told to check in at the ME desk at the airport and they would get me on the bus. The line was a mile long, but we got sent straight though by the guy at the start of it, and the second guy had slips ready to go to add people ( as long as someone in the party had a ME booklet). He also marked me down for a return trip to be added automaticly by their office.
I was very happy about the great service, and not having to stand in line with Robert for another half hour!
We stayed at the POP century in a preferred room, which put us in the 70s building right next to the main building. Outside, we had giant 8track tapes as our building icons and I found out that my young wife has never seen a real one. (Feeling old again!) This was our first time at this resort and we l liked it except for the crowded food court where we even lost Robert! He decided to "help" and go find us a table. It gave me my cardio workout for the day. :scared1:
We headed over to the expo, got our packets, a ton of tshirts and race related items, and happened to catch John Bingham on stage. I hung around and said hi to him after he was done, and he remembered me from a local race where we met last year and from facebook. By this time, we were all tired and headed back to the resort for setting up camp and an early night.
Friday, Liz was up early and did the 5K and had a great time. It was her biggest race and her first experience working her way through a crowd after the start. We met up with the WISH crew at 430 at the POP and had fun putting faces to our teamates! Then it was the rest of the day at EPCOT and then bedtime.
Saturday, it was my turn to get up and on the bus at 330 am. It was warmer than I expected so I was happy. I went into this weekend withhout having run in over a month, and just getting over a sinus infection, so I promised myself to do just the best I could and not worry about setting a time goal. I ran into only one other WISHER while waiting to move into the corrals. Used the port o pot and waited just a few minutes before they let us out of the holding area. I was a little surprised by how long the walk was to the corrals, and remember thinking how strange it was to see one of the MK Jungle Boats dumped in a ditch on the side of the road.
I was in corral B and loved the jumbo tron tvs and the interviews from the military base in Iraq. They were running a half marathon in conjuction with us and had the same start time. Really cool. While waiting, I had to jump the fence and " use the trees" along with at least 50 others that I saw.
I love the start with the fireworks and flame throwers for each wave. My pace for the first few miles was below ten minutes a mile, so I slowed my pace down as I went. There was much more entertainment and water stops at this race that in the Wine and Dine in October. I know that some people don't like the high fees for these races, but I felt it was really well done and for the effort that Disney puts into it, the money was well worth it. My bus driver said that they had ten buses dedicated for the POP alone, and they had hired tons of buses from outside companies to move everyone. I even saw buses from the Orlando city system.
As the race progressed, I felt okay and really didn't need to walk much, which surprised me. I saw tons of characters, and really wanted to stop to see Stitch in Tomorrow land, but the line was too long. Running onto Main Street had a really nice surprise, as the Christmas decorations were still up and lit up the still dark morning. Going into the last few miles before EPCOT I had a minor cramp in my left calf and walked here and there. A guy hit me on my shoulder as a measure of encouragement and said "Come on!" It came off as more of a "move it pal" by the tone of his voice. I let him go, and passed him in the last mile. The hill before EPCOT just about killed me and I remember thinking that I never noticed it while riding a the Disney buses.
I really loved all the crowds cheering, and all the people who called out to me because I had my WISH shirt on! I finished in 2:17:31 which was my worst half marthon time, but way better than I expected. I got my medal engraved and headed back to the resort for a shower.
Robert and Liz headed over to the Studios and I ditched them and headed back to the Expo to hear Jeff Galloway talk, and then John Bingham and Jenny Hadfield talk. They were all entertaining and very informative. Jonh picked on me at the beginning of his talk and pointed me out and said to everyone, "Hey, that's Mike Rice!" I wanted to crawl under the chair in front of me!
John and Jenny have started a Facebook 100 days get it moving for 30 minutes a day group, and invited people to walk with them after their talk. It was only myself and another couple that joined them. We walked around the track and grounds as the WWS complex and I got to pick their brains alot. John and I eventually spent half the time talking motorcycles. Go figure! This really made for an extra bit of magic for me on this trip.
Sunday, we got up early, and tried busing it over to the MK for a monorail ride to the Poly for breakfast. Because of the marathon, they diverted us to the TTC. The Disney bus lords actually made things easier by doing this as we just made the short walk on the path to the Poly. It's not well signed, but we knew it was there from our past honeymoon. (Experience counts!) I ate TWO tonga toasts at he Kona Cafe. I figured I earned it the day before. :rolleyes1 We spent the rest of the day having fun at the MK!

I would love to do the Goofy next year if the funds allow. We will have to wait and see. Liz and I are signed up for the Disneyland Half and I'm already excited! I will have the Coast to Coast medal! :thumbsup2 Hope to see more of you there!

Enjoy your Sunday! -Mike :cool2:

September 18th- Warrior Dash 5k Twin Lakes, WI

Many more to come! Mike :cool2:

Captain Vicky...Yes, DH Ken is planning to do the DL Half with me. We haven't signed up yet, but have discussed travel plans and when I should try to get a reservation. I will probably call about that soon.

We are also planning to do a local race, the Mt. Vernon Relay for Life 5K. It takes place on March 19th.

I just did my first run today since the half marathon. Tried out the new shoes that I bought at the expo. Since the weather here is "brrrrr" cold, I just ran on the TM. Happy to say that it felt good. Still a slight twinge in the hamstring that bothered me during the race. Going to see my chiro tomorrow, so maybe he can work on that some. Also looking forward to getting my neck adjusted as it has been tight.

Hope everyone is staying warm! Pixie dust to those who are feeling puny!

Mike you and Liz sure have a full race schedule, does your little one run some with you to?

Mary J. Yes it's Brrrr cold here to, maybe we will get an early spring, if not we will fire the ground hog.

Vicky, I was checking out your pictures on FaceBook, that marathon cake was really cool.

Sally and I did our first training walk since the marathon weekend to day an easy hour in the mall.

Dave:hippie:

Vicky: That'd be awesome! I think we wouldn't mind a little noise if it meant less walking overall. I think preference would be towards being close to the first bus pick up stop, then food/pool.

I got up to 7 miles yesterday and I'm aiming for 3 hours or less but seeing as this is my first marathon of any kind I might be being unrealistic. I need to track down something that will allow me to track my intervals like I do on the treadmill. I was thinking a forerunner but amazon only ships those to the US. :sad2: I also need to get more fuel samples to try. So little time...

As for temps, I'm finding in an A/Ced room with two fans on me, I'm still getting really really warm. I'm thinking it's residual cold symptoms though.

I'm getting close to tapering time if I understand correctly, so when I'm tapering do I just do short runs or what's the guidelines for that?

I have tons more running questions but I'm suffering from a very bad case of the forgetful Mondays. I'm sure I'll remember them once I hit post.

This weekend was some progress on the trip planning. We got some of our reservations made:
25th: arrive
26th (AK): Boma for dinner
27th (MK): race (not sure what to do for dinner)
28th (EP): Akershus for late lunch
1st (DHS): Hollywood & Vine for early dinner
2nd (EP): not sure for lunch, California Grill for late dinner
3rd (MK): not sure for lunch, California Grill for late dinner
4th: leave

One of those California Grills is to be cancelled. We're spending the second at EPCOT and the third at MK but I wasn't sure whether we could get to CG from EPCOT in time if we leave a little before IllumiNations (we would have watched it on the 28th). Still picking a couple for MK days, but we're slowly nailing them down.

Morning team!!

I hope all are doing well!

I did get out and run on Saturday for about 3 miles. It felt good - I took it slow and didn't push too much. Per my training plan and the reverse taper, I'm supposed to have a rest day...but I may end up doing yoga or something...I can't take the thought of just sitting around. Crazy, huh? But I also don't want to do something to injure myself.

My plan had been to do a total apartment clean/purge, but with the city still catching up from the no garbage pick-up for Christmas week there is still a back-up, and I don't want the bags sitting in my apartment. So... I'll probably go see a movie - I want to see Black Swan again because I know I missed some things the first time...and I've heard that seeing it at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas where you walk out essentially into Lincoln Center just intensifies the whole experience (it also has the advantage of being an "artsy" cinema so I'm less likely to have to deal with all the giggles in intense places that I had to deal with in the cinema in the Times Square area.

In terms of races coming up...

1/22 ~ volunteering at the NYRR Manhattan Half Marathon
2/6 ~ NYRR Gridiron Classic 4M
2/26 ~ NYRR Al Gordon Classic 4M
3/6 ~ NYRR Coogans Salsa, Blues and Shamrocks 5K
3/20 ~ NYC Half Marathon
9/4 ~ Disneyland Half Marathon
10/1 ~ Wine and Dine Half Marathon (not signed up yet but I will)
1/8 ~ Walt Disney World Marathon (not signed up yet, but I will)

I will be adding in other NYRR races once those dates are finalized and they open for registration. I need to get 5 more in to hit my 9+1 (run 9, volunteer 1) for guaranteed entry into the 2012 NYC Marathon.

I hope all are doing well!
