Hakuna Matada - Dashing through December!

Mike good luck with the procedure. You already have super powers, believe in the magic brother.

I had an amazing training walk this morning, we walked between 9.5 and 10 miles along hilly trails in 2 hours and 37 seconds. Just a hair over a 12 mpm pace over rugged terrain. I could have turned around and done it again, I;m feeling strong and ready to tackle that bad Goofy.

If you have an Old Navy Store close by check out their clearance rack. I found some very nice running/walking shorts with a back zipper pocket just below the waistband. Very decent quality and comfortable and on clearance for $4.99. They feel and look as well as the Nike I normally wear and much cheaper. They also have a nice assortment of Tech Tops but I have so many race shirts to train in I didn't get any.

Hi everyone!

Mike - Good luck! I'm thinking good thoughts and sending lots of pixiedust: for you today! I hope you get good results :) And I second what Dave said about the super powers!

Dave - Good job on the 10 miler! And thanks for the tip on Old Navy. I'll see if I can go over tonight after the gym. Hopefully they'll have the same deals :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I often freeze cookies and brownies. can’t remember about lunar eclipse last year, they were saying the next one (total eclipse) will be in 2014 (or was it 2013?). I was going to get up early for the meteor shower yesterday morning, but I forgot to set alarm, it was supposed to be best just before dawn. Actually, I was probably up early enough, as I am always up before sunrise, just forgot to look outside. I am done shopping (as of yesterday), still have a couple of packages to get in the mail - the things I forgot to put in the already sent packages.

Dave - Sounds like a great workout, glad you were able to get outside!

Tandy - Hope you and Harrison both feel better and you can make your last final today without issues. Riding in snow is not smart, you have a lot less traction on a bike than on foot - but when we have a dusting on the driveway, it is fun to ride thru it just to say we were “riding in the snow”.

Mike - Hope you survived the barium! PD that all turns out normal. I agree with Dave - you already have superpowers!

Elizabeth - Holiday planning can take a lot out of our schedules. Hope you are doing well yourself. Hope you had a good time at the cookie exchange.

AFM - It was cold and windy yesterday, and I got busy with Christmas cards, so I did not even get out for a dog walk, ran out of time and did not get my spin bike workout in either - our bike club had its Christmas party last night - I had to go alone as Scott was out of town, but it was fun.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

I received a coupon for 30% off at Old Navy in store. So if anyone is going to take advantage of the sale Dave mentioned, it might help out a little bit. The link is for the coupon in French but it's valid in the US & Canada. Send me a PM if you want the English version. I have that in an email but wasn't able to open it in a webpage, only the French version.

Good morning, team!

Tandy - DH's cousin was 22, so it was very unexpected. Cause of death is still unknown though foul play is not suspected. Pixie dust for Frank and you! I'm glad Frank is feeling better. Good luck on your finals! I hope you and Harrison feel better soon!

Vicky - I didn't make any requests on my Pop ressie. I don't care what building I get as long as it's quiet. I still have a little Christmas shopping to do, but DH hasn't done anything about his parents' gifts so I'll probably have to prod him about that.

Lynn - We watched the eclipse, too. We didn't see a lot of it becuase there was one cloud in the way and we were also getting ready for our 5k.

Mike - Hope your CT scan goes well.

Regina - WTG on your 18 miler and 9 miler.

Dave - Thanks for the Old Navy tip. WTG on your 10 miler.

Sue/Kim/Elizabeth - Hi!

Saylan - You'll do great at WDW!

AFM - Work has been keeping me quite busy the last week or so. I have a lot of vacation time so I took today off and I don't have to go into tomorrow. I have a lot of chores and errands to do so I'm hoping to get a lot accomplished in the next 2 days.

Our 5k went well. Our time was 33:42. It wasn't was fast as I would have liked. I was congested during the race and breathing was difficult so that slowed me down. The weather was very nice. The medal was cool and I finally got a race shirt that fits me.

We have our last long run this weekend. We're supposed to do 14 miles, but neither of us really wants to. If we get at least 12 miles in I'll be happy.

My bib number for the half is 39974. I was surprised to have a bib number that high. I'm very interested to find out what corral I'm in. I have proof of time from a 10k we did earlier in the year which I'm planning to bring in case I need to change my corral.

Have a good day!
Emily

Good morning, everyone,

Hope y'all are well and injury-free.

AFM: I resisted the temptation to eat any cookies at the party on Wednesday night. My willpower didn't last because I had entirely too many last night. I even ate one on the way to the gym:lmao: Vicky: I just don't know how you can bake and not partake!

We are headed to Virginia to visit my father this weekend so I won't get my long run in until Sunday evening. Hope to do some hiking if the weather is nice, though.

My bib# for the WDW half is 39312. We'll arrive early Friday morning. My daughters are running in the Mickey Mile.

Enjoy the weekend!

Elizabeth: Hope you enjoy your time with your dad. Hiking sounds like a nice break from running. I've never been able to resist a good cookie. :)

Emily: According to that bib # thread, you'd be in corral D with that number. I don't even know what that equates to though. Wow, he was 22! That is soooo young. I hope your hubby is doing alright. I think if you do 12 this weekend, you'll be fine. I never did a long run more than 10 miles when training for a half. But, it's true that the more prepared you are, the better.

Lynn: So, are you going to mail 2nd packages for the things you forgot? ;) I love it. I was such a cheapskate this year that I order my out of town relatives things on Amazon and just had them shipped to their houses. You've got me feeling guilty about Christmas cards now. It's the first year I haven't sent them out, and I wish I had time, but it's just not working out this year. :guilty:

Mike: I hope everything went well. You're in my prayers.

Dave: Thanks for the heads up, but I don't need ANY more shorts, not even $5 shorts. I was looking through the drawers the other day and I bet I have 30 pairs of shorts or running skirts. Insane!

Vicky: Nope, I found your pounds that you lost, not your measurements. I'm doing 20 this weekend too. Well, actually my LRs are on Monday, but still. I may take 4 hours also. Nope, not even close to done with my shopping. I still don't know what to get my mom, and I have nothing for our stockings yet. At least Frank and I don't exchange much anymore. That gets to be tough, trying to hide stuff.

AFM: I am going to attempt to run today, but am still a little weak. I think I'll just do a 4 mile hill run and take it slow. I have 20 planned for Monday, so want to save myself up for that.

I have to go to Costco today, which I dislike immensely. I am hosting the neighborhoods Santa breakfast at the Civic Center. So, I have to buy breakfast stuff for 90ish people and get it set up tomorrow. Then, I am done with all my obligations for the year!!!!

Finals are over. I'm just waiting for grades. I know I aced my algebra final. My zumba instructor is also taking the algebra I am, so she came over the night before and I tutored her for 5 hours. If she gets a B, she's giving me 10 free zumba classes.

Harrison went to school today, but man is he weak. I feel bad, but he only has 3.5 hours of school today and they're just watching movies. I picked up his homework last night and he got it all done, so he wants to turn it in before they go on break today.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I, too, do not know how you can bake so much and not eat what you bake.

Tandy - Yes, I have a pile that needs to go to the PO today, several out of country Christmas cards and 3 packages with stuff I did not get into the first packages. Send out e-cards, they will at least reach your friends and relatives that are on the internet. We have been getting more and more of them each year. I have too many relatives that are not yet in the computer age, so I need to stick to paper. Hope your Zumba instructor gets her B so you get your free classes (which you should get anyway for 5 hours of tutoring).

Mike - Pixie Dust and hugs! Hope you get a good report and soon!

Elizabeth - Have fun in VA, hope the weather will be good for you.

Emily - Hope you had a good day yesterday on your day off, and have a good day today! Good job on 5K and getting a shirt that fit!

AFM - I did get out for a dog walk and 30 min on the spin bike, it was very cool out yesterday. Got the Christmas cards nearly done - they just need return addresses and stamps and they will be ready for the mail. Today’s project is to clean the house - I made a big mess with all the Christmas cards, and now that all the presents are wrapped, all that stuff needs to go back to the basement. It is supposed to be nice this weekend, Scott will be home tomorrow, maybe we can fit in a bike ride or 2.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday everyone!

Lynn - Yay for the good weather predicted for the weekend! I hope you're able to get out for a couple of rides. How's the new bike working out? Good luck with the house cleaning today! I always make a mess whenever I wrap presents and do Christmas cards so you're not alone! Any baking planned for the weekend or do you still have goodies left from Scott's mom and sister?

Tandy - How was your 4 miler? I like that you're taking it easy with a 4 miler of hills! I'll keep my fingers crossed that your zumba instructor gets a B or better! And you as well! You've been working really hard this semester! That's pretty cool that you guys did an exchange of tutoring for classes. When do you find out about your grades?

Good luck at Costco! I hate going there normally but during Christmas, they're especially bad. I try to go with my mom first thing in the morning. What kind of breakfast are you planning on making? Do you get to use a commercial kitchen? I can't imagine cooking that much in my home kitchen.

Try not to work too hard this weekend! I hope you're feeling stronger for your run on Monday! What day is your ultra again? I'll add it to the team calendar!

Elizabeth - I only eat one or two of the cookies. Then I save a few more for after my weekend LR and eat more then :) My chiro bakes a lot but when she does fitness competitions she can't eat sweets. She told me just tastes the dough, batter etc. and then spits it out. I told someone at work who was grossed out but it's not like she's spitting it back into the batter  I do that occasionally but to be honest, I did a lot of miles last month so that allowed me to eat more than I normally would. Ah ... and I eat cookies before I go to the gym or before a run. Nothing wrong with that. It will give you a bit of extra energy and it makes you do the workout because you know you have a little extra to burn off!

I'll add your bib number to the first page! Safe travels this weekend!

Emily - Congrats on your 5K time! That's awesome especially since you were having problems breathing! Wait until you do your next 5K! What did the medal look like? I hope you're able to get moved up for January. There's a thread on the board where they've divided the bibs by what they believe the corals will be. Good luck on your 14 miler this weekend! I'm at the point where the novelty of the LR has worn off somewhat too. I hope you're able to get the 14 in but if not, 12 is great too!

AFM - I did a training session at the gym yesterday and did some weighed squats, leg press, lunges, frog leaps etc. I got some compliments from another trainer on my squats. I'm always so happy when the other trainers notice. I ended up tweaking my right ITB while doing some lunges ... or maybe during the squats. Not sure. Anyway, my trainer had to stretch me out halfway through the session because it was bothering me a lot. I decided to skip my run afterward. I didn't want to worsen or tweak anything else before the 20 miler on Saturday.

I know everyone's really busy with errands and parties etc. But I just wanted to remind you guys to make sure you're drinking enough water and getting enough sleep. Proper hydration and sleep are really important for the races in January. They'll also keep you healthy and I know no one wants to get sick before the races.

Well ... 9 days to Christmas! Yikes! Have a great weekend everyone!

Good Afternoon Team!

I'm so glad it's Friday. What a (stressful) week.

Mike, Hope your test went well!

Vicky/ Kim, How about this weather? Kim, Do you have any snow?
We picked the wrong year to buy a ski pass for the season.

Tandy, I hope Costco wasn't too bad and your breakfast is a sucess. We call it the $300 store because we are guaranted to spend at least that much each time we go there.

Elizabeth, Hope you have a nice time with your dad.

Emily, When you are proding your DH about his parent's gift can you please prod my DH. He is lacking ideas also and I will be left to shop for ???

Dave, I have a few workout things from ONavy. Not to bad a quality. I've also had luck at Costco of all places for Avia running skirts etc.
Your training sounds like it is going well.

Lynn, Are you hosting Christmas with family at your house? Is Scott cooking?

What a terrible week of holiday overeating. I had no will power to resist the treats.

Have a great training weekend everyone............Sue

Sue: Yes, it's the $300 store, or $500 store, or once, the $1000 store! I have no willpower either. You are not alone. :)

Vicky: I'm not doing any cooking. Just muffins, apple strudel, croissants, that type of thing. And drinks. My race is called the Brew To Brew on April 1st next year. Yes, Costco was a nightmare! Truly horrible. We passed the mall on the way back and it was much worse. Good job on the squats. I hope your ITband is ok, and I'm glad you skipped the run. I don't think it's fair that you get to eat all those cookies and still lose weight.

Lynn: I'm glad you're done with everything but cleaning. Great job! My house is trashed because it's wrapping day, so I understand. I could do ecards, but I just don't feel right. I think it'll be okay to take a year off and send them out again next year. My family and really close friends all understand that its been hectic here.

AFM: The run was SLOW and short. I only did 3.2 miles, and they weren't pretty. I overdressed again. I don't know when I'm going to learn. It was 23 degrees, so I wore tights, a long sleeved tech shirt, and light vest, gloves and a head band. I could have done without the vest and maybe even done a short sleeved shirt. I just run super hot. But, at least I got to run in my tights for the first time without putting something over them. I have just always felt so self conscious about wearing them alone, but I keep seeing all these other runners do it. Today I said what the heck, and out the door I went. I didn't even care.

Oh, and I got my grade in anatomy/physiology. I got an A!!!!!:cool1: I can relax now, even though I haven't gotten my algebra grade yet. I ended up not only getting the A, but I got a 93%.

Congrats on rocking an A!!!! That is awesome!!

It is so funny what you said about wearing just your tights. Up until this week, I always wore shorts over my compression pants because I was self-conscious about modesty issues. Until this week, when I decided 'what the heck' and did my Tuesday run with just the compression pants. Felt great! And no one called the cops on me so I guess I was sufficiently appropriate in my attire! :rotfl:

LOVE IT!!!!! Apparently, this week is the 'what the heck' week. :lmao:

Well your friendly Panda don't do compression anything. My body just doesn't do well in stuff like that. I wear running pants of different weights if it's cooler than 60 degrees. In the summer I wear nylon shorts. I usually wear a muscle shirt, tank top or a long sleeve shirt. If the temp is 50 or below I wear a tech jacket. Weird I know but I've spent most of my life in various jungles or deserts.

My 5K PR as a walker was 101 degrees and 100% humidity.

Hi Team!

Kim- We arrive Tuesday the 3rd. We’re 17 days away from leaving for Orlando.

Vicky- Thanks! I didn’t mind the wind being cold so much as I did the energy it took to run into it. It felt like I wasn’t moving forward at all. I’m glad you weren’t sore at all the next day. Are you going to do an Epsom salt bath in between the half and full? DH’s TMs at his work are the same way. One will let you run for hours, the second one starts the cool down after 30 min, and the third one starts the cool down after 60 min. I remember the first time I ran on the 30 min one I was not too happy when it suddenly started slowing down on me. Hope your ankle is doing okay. I am also planning on 4 hours for my 20 mile run on Monday.

Dave- Glad Sally found some new clothes. I’m looking forward to the taper. Great 10 mile run! Thanks for the Old Navy tip.

Tandy- LOL, I don’t think I will ever work up to 44 miles. I will be happy to be done with the marathon. Glad to hear Frank is doing well. What all did you make for your finals party? Too bad you didn’t get to enjoy it. I wish I could say the wind here is gone…unfortunately it never leaves. Stomach flu is awful! I hope you and Harrison are feeling better. Sounds like a good zumba deal to me! Good for you for running in just tights without putting anything over them. I am not quite to that point myself, but slowly trying to get there. Congrats on your A!

Sue- Hope you are well! Sorry to hear you had a rough week of overindulging on sweets.

Lynn- Ooh, I will have to watch out for taper madness this year. I’m already planning on spending money and we haven’t even left yet. Last year at Wine and Dine I made it out without spending much. Did you finish off all your baked goodies? Haha, whenever you talk about how windy it is over there I am always grateful I’m not running in that wind. That’s great you like your new bike. How do you decide which bikes to buy? Glad you had a good time at the bike club Christmas party. Hope you and Scott are able to make it out on the bikes this weekend.

Elizabeth- Hi! How was the cookie exchange? What cookie did you bake? How do cookie exchange parties work? LOL, well at least you know the cookie you ate on the way to the gym got worked off while you were there. Hope you have a great weekend!

Mike- Glad your runs went well and the weather is mild. The police car ride sounded like fun! Hope your CT scan results come back with good news. How did the scan go? No Everest Challenge for us next year.

Emily- Hope you enjoyed your time off this week and got a lot finished. Congrats on finishing your 5k! I agree with Vicky- I think your time is great considering you were not feeling well. Good luck on your last long run this weekend. Was the race shirt nice? I’m glad you finally got one that fits! I’d also like to know what the medal looks like.

AFM, I have not done much training this week. I spent pretty much all day Wednesday and Thursday baking. Then I promptly sent most of it with DH to work this morning. :thumbsup2 I also gave some to our neighbors. I really didn’t overindulge much when I was baking either. I tried one of each cookie to make sure they were coming out okay, but considering how many cookies I had on our dining table, I think I did ok. I really haven’t even felt like eating them since I finished baking either. Last night my stomach started feeling a little queasy and I haven’t felt well today either. I did make it to the gym to run 3 miles, which went well, aside from my stomach not cooperating. I don’t think I could have made it much further than that tonight though. I’m just hoping it’s gone before Sunday because I have my last long runs this Sun/Mon and I really want to see them through if I can.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and the last long runs before the taper go well!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - New bike is working out great! Still have goodies left from Christmas boxes from Scott’s Mom and sister.

Dave - Have a great day!

Sue - Scott will be cooking, he is the chef in the family, but we will not be hosting family, we have invited them out several times for Thanksgiving, but they live in MIssouri and Atlanta, so it is a long trip.

Tandy - Another option would be to send out “New Year’s” cards instead of Christmas cards, that gives you more time if you have time after Christmas. If it is still crazy, then yes, take a year off! Congrats on the A and the 93%!

Rick - I also do not do well in the heat, my best walk was in the rain and about 60 degrees.

Regina - We really like Trek bikes, my Trek road bike is great, so when I went looking for a cyclocross bike, we looked again at Trek. We also now have a Trek dealer in town so we did not need to drive to Ft. Collins for the bike. Hope you feel better soon!

AFM - It was late by the time I got the dogs for a walk, and by that time too cold for outside bike ride, so I did 45 min on the spin bike. Looking forward to nice weather this weekend. Have to go pick up Scott at the airport at noon.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Well, my last 'long' Long Run is in the books. Mike and I ran 12.90 miles this morning in the snow! I always wanted to run in the snow, so I got my wish. It was beautiful and quiet, and there were a lot of runners out there! We ran into several from our Run Club.

We kept at a 11:15 pace more or less, with some walking thrown in for GU breaks. Chocolate Outrage is so good! The whole run, including the warm-up/cooldown walks, took 2:40. And burned 2200 calories to boot! And kept the heart rate in Zones 1 & 2 the entire run. I am very pleased with that. :thumbsup2

Running in the snow is like running on a trail cuz the surface is not level or consistent. It was a bit harder than just running the regular path with all the extra work the muscles are doing to stabilize your gait and whatnot. But it was still very cool!

Now I just have to stretch and foam roll. I almost rolled my ankle stepping off the path at one point too. So the body needs a bit of TLC for the knees, hips, and calves. Nothing out of the ordinary though. I should be ready to rock for Monday's cross training. Tomorrow is my rest day and I am taking it! :rotfl:

I hope everyone is having an equally satisfying weekend! :goodvibes

Mike and Rick, snow, yuck, you can keep it. Find for watching while I'm cillin in the recliner but not my favorite thing to be out in. I walked my last half marathon at the USAF in 2:41 so about the same pace as you guys did this morning, but mine was 70 degrees and dry pavement.

I walked an easy hour this morning with Sally and then we finished our Christmas Shopping and our marketing. Then a nice nap and I'm off to work. Tomorrow will be a visiting day and then monday back to the track for speed work again.

Have a magical weekend y'all.
