Hakuna Kidani, What a Turtleful Phrase!

Hi (waves) I started reading one of your reports before but I fell behind and lost my place and had a hard time ever finding it again due to the popularity n soooooo many comments, but I'm so glad I found this and can't wait to see what's next for you all.thanks for allowing me to join the party:hyper:

Life in our area of Distown had slowed down considerably in the last couple of reports. Quite a few of our 'old' DIS friends went out into the world to seek their fortunes as Disney travel planners, and they no longer have time to visit much. We keep in touch with most of them via FB. We are grateful for anyone who wants to hang out here with us....when we have the time to hang out.

YAY SeaWorld I can't wait to go! Looks so fun! I have only ever been to the San Diego one but I love it. I love marine life!

I'm glad we went, because it was different than Disney World, but I think we did pretty much all we wanted to do in that one most-of-a-day that we had.

Blackfish isn't so much about mistreatment (and no it's not made by Seaworld), its more about how whales do not do well when they are in captivity. How their behaviors change and that kind of thing (think Free Willy.) You could find similar docs about other animals (i.e. Project Nim, etc.). I suppose it doesn't offer much in the way of "dirty secrets" of their treatment while in captivity, just more why they shouldn't be captive at all.

That being said, I have been to Seaworld a few times and to Marineland (a smaller scale version of Seaworld in Niagara Falls) repeatedly and have always found it fun and notice that they wanted to educate the public on the dangers they face in the wild so who knows...but it's a powerful documentary and worth a watch if you get the chance.

If you think I will cry, I will cry, so I bet I will never watch it. :upsidedow I hope Sea World does much more good than harm in their efforts to help animals and the people whoo need to help care for their environment.

My daughters favorite commercial- "everyone loooves Marineland" we went to the falls 3 years ago and she still sings the TV jingle!

I'll have to see if that jingle is on youtube. :thumbsup2 Glad you are here with us!

What great fun at Sea World, but you can see how hot everyone was too. I've never been to the one in Orlando but we did got to the one in San Antonio in 1996. I really want to go back and take Danielle since she has never been.

I would be more interested in the shows than the rides too. I know Brooklynn enjoyed seeing so many new animals. How many stuffed animals did she come home with?

I can see Brooklynn enjoying one of their week long summer camps. ::yes::

I don't remember which animals she got. When they come up on the pictures, then I will remember. I am going to put up more pictures in a few minutes, so maybe we'll see what she ended up with soon. I know they got me a plush friend, which I will tell about later.

I am so sorry that I haven’t been on! I have been very busy but I finally have the chance to come on.

I love the Pirate character theme! That looks like such a fun meal!

I want those mickey plates!

I could easily spend 100 dollars in the zoo store.

I went to Sea-World this past summer and it was fun ( but Disney is better)

We've barely been here ourselves. :sad2:

If I had unlimited funds, I could make a pretty awesome wildlife theme in my classroom. :) Sea World and Brevard Zoo both had some unique animals that I know my students would love to have hanging around the room all year.

We did not ride this.

I'm sure it would have been fun, but we were there to see animals.

Pretty waterfall.

We also did not ride this.

Food. We did that.

We had gotten SW's dining plan - FREE! :cool1:
We got wristbands that let us eat free all day.

'Twas good.

Unlike Disney World, Sea World still had theme park napkins.

There were mingo boats, but they cost extra, so we didn't ride those either.

Brooklynn showing how to train one of the whales.

With a trainer.

Yay for Sea World! I've never been so it's cool to see what's up over there.

That's so cute how they actually have a Shamu that greets too. So adorable! I totally would get a picture. Though I can understand why Bella wasn't exactly into him.

MINGOS! :hyper:

Those Sting Ray touch tanks are so cool. There's one at an aquarium near where I live and they have sharks in it too. Very slimy things they are, sharks and rays that is.

The Dolphin show looks really cool! I love the set they have there. And the costumes are gorgeous! Reminds me of FotLK a bit.

Can't wait to read about the rest of your day at Sea World! :mickeyjum

We've not been to SeaWorld but we did have a day at Discovery Cove a couple of years ago and found that a lot of things there reassured us that the animals in their care were well looked after. They also did their best to educate their visitors too.
I'd like to think that you're right about every large organisation being carefully controlled/regulated in order to make sure all these captive animals are treated properly, with respect.

Do you think you'd go back to SeaWorld? We'd certainly spend another day at Discovery Cove because we all felt it was a nice relaxing day away from Disney and I'm glad my mom's wish to swim with the dolphins convinced us to explore somewhere off Disney property, but generally I'm very reluctant to take any days away from Disney time ;)

I am enjoying the look at Sea World. I haven't been in probably 25+ years but always loved it as a kid. And I am really interested in the new water park they built, the name of which escapes me. Yet somehow there just never seems to be enough time in vacation, no matter how long we are there...or I just don't want to leave the Disney bubble. This trip for you guys seemed to have the perfect balance!!

Those pictures from Seaworld are lovely. I have never been to that park. Like Christine, I always think I want to go, but there never seems time to fit it in. Next October we are cruising and staying at Disney. I am not planning on a park ticket, so perhaps that will be the perfect time to visit.

The dolphins and whales look so cool and that show always looks like a lot of fun. And - yes it looks SO hot! Despite that, it looks like everyone is having a great time!

You didn't miss much not riding the flume ride. It is pretty lame compared to Splash Mountain.

I see you didn't sit in the splash zone for the whales. Chicken? ;)

What people need to remember about Blackfish & those types of things is they are crafted by animal rights folks who have an agenda. Their agenda is to rid the world of animals owned by people. No pets or meats or zoos of ant kind. They show movies & commercials to drum up donations which for the most part don't go to the animals. Before giving dig into the backgrounds of these groups. Please donate to a local shelter these use the donations to care for strays!

This is my hot button project! Sorry, now off my soapbox.

How wonderful to see a glimpse of the turtle. When I was a girl I was at Cramden Park zoo in Miami & saw a turtle on the bank by water. It was out among the public, such an awesome creature.

Your girls are so cute, love the leopard print tops.

Just got back from AKL this past Friday, just love the place. We had lots of animals off our balcony.

THe girls are gorgeous and thanks for the warm welcome :D

Thank you for the kind words. :)

Festival of the Lion King was what we thought, as well. That part was interesting, but it really lasted a long time. We said it was more of an acrobatic show with a side of animals rather than the other way around.

Opry Mills Mall used to have stingrays, too, before they flooded. When it resurrected, they didn't bring back the rays.

The more that I think about it, there were some things I would go back to do. We didn't do Turtle Trek or Wild Arctic. I think we would go back for more animal/exhibit time, but probably not for rides.

I need to find some pictures I have of Jill and Trent at Sea World when they were little. I remember them being red-cheeked and sweating.

We thought this was the perfect time for Sea World, since we were not doing Disney parks this time. I am glad we did it, because when we are doing Disney and are in the Disney bubble, it is hard to pry ourselves away from that!

Sounds like a good time for an off-site trip. :thumbsup2

We did have a good time. It was so strange being somewhere that was 'foreign' to us.

I see you didn't sit in the splash zone for the whales. Chicken? ;)

I love the thrill rides, but we were just there to see animals. I'm guessing in another five years, the girls may want to give Sea World another try, or they may even want to try Universal! :scared1:

No splash zone for me. I admit to chickendom when it comes to getting my hair wet. have you seen how I go down the drop on Splash???

I can't stand to see animals hurt in any way. I hope SW is doing all good things for the animals.

AKL is awesome! I knew I would like it the first time I went over there, and I like it more and more every time. It also has sentimental value, because Jill took me on a surprise Mother's Day trip there a few years ago, and it was amazing!

So fun to see some Sea World pictures! Maybe one of these days I'll venture off Disney property and check it out! Did yall enjoy your time there?

MeMom, that food looks very yummy. And I wish Disney would bring back the napkins with the logo on it. :(

I love the Shamu show. I really need to get back there to see it. And what a cute picture of Brooklyn and Bella with the trainer.

Stopping in for a quick hi! Loving the Sea World pictures. Hannah would love it! We need to add it to the plans one of these days.

Love the update!

I also might way to try Universal in the next few years. Disney will always be my favorite though.

Nice zoo pics.
LOL, the ‘dung” t shirt.
I hate rude people and loud speaking ones too.
Love the pixie jars.
Glad Sophie was okay.
Did Bella see “Blackfish”? LOL.
I saw the movie about the animal secrets. I will not go there. I canceled our plans for December though it is more of how the whales live in such a confined area and their punishments if they misbehave. It is an eye opener just like “The Cove” was for dolphins.
Nice pics.
All caught up again.

Unlike Disney World, Sea World still had theme park napkins.

How did I miss that Disney doesn't have theme park napkins anymore? Did I have them in February?

Great Sea World update. We took Abby when she was 10 months - it was my first time. I really liked it and hope to bring back both girls soon. Next Disney trip planned in Oct 2014 (way too far out), so hopefully then we can take them.

We just got back from a week in Sandestin. A lazy beach trip was in order and that is exactly what we had. I really loved just "being" with my girls and husband. Chasing sand crabs, building sand castles, watching Abby dance on the beach. Simply perfect in every way.
