Hakuna Kidani, What a Turtleful Phrase!

:yay: We're heading to WDW!!

We drive a lot and LOVE to drive at night when the kids are sleeping. They actually like it too, because they don't realize how much time has passed and they wake up in a whole different state! I can't sleep well in the car, but I manage and DH does the driving. Less traffic too!

We always stop for juice at the Florida welcome center too.

Looking forward to seeing the AofA suite!

We are almost at Disney. :yay::yay::yay:

Great job on the ride down on the girls part.

What a face on Bella when you are offering her the juice.

We saw that dolphin when we were there in April on our way to Disney...hubby had to have his picture taken with it too.

Yay for the Florida welcome center!!! I do miss stopping there when we fly, but not enough to drive 19 hours. :goodvibes

It is not a trip to Disney until you stop at the welcome center and get the latest Disney schedule and fresh OJ.

The girls are so cute in the cut outs. I love Sophie's little head in the greeting card.

Great start.

6 pages back already?! My word! This new job is killing my DisTown time!:faint:

So excited to live another trip through your eyes! Looks like a fun start - except maybe for Bella's sassy juice refusal! ;). I can't wait to hear more!

Hurrah! We are on our way!! You are dedicated to get up and on the road at 1:15am! :worship: But there is a pretty big payoff at the end of your trip.

Jill, your boss sounds super nice to give you the day off and definitely the perfect opportunity to try out Art of Animation. Can't wait to hear what you guys thought of it.

Bella does appear to be a bit sassy there in the FL Welcome Center. :rolleyes1

Love the smiling Sophie and action shot Brooklynn in the "cut-out" photo opps.

Are we there yet??? :hyper: Just kidding... take your time. :goodvibes

Middle of the night driving made for sleeping girls. It was perfect.

If Art of Animation suites had outside doors or balconies, they could move pretty high on my list. The set-up worked well for us, and since there are three girls now, it could even work well for trips when it's just Jill, the girls, and me, as well. I do like a balcony or door, though.

I purposely deprive myself of sleep before road trips so that I can sleep and not be bored out of my mind for hours. I like waking up and being a hundred miles closer to our destination! :thumbsup2

We saw that dolphin when we were there in April on our way to Disney...hubby had to have his picture taken with it too.

There were painted sea turtles like the dolphin all over Vero, and I was going to ride around with Anita and Marc one day to get pictures of some of them, but we just never got around to it.

Yay for the Florida welcome center!!! I do miss stopping there when we fly, but not enough to drive 19 hours. :goodvibes

I'll take flying over driving any day. ::yes:: We needed to have a vehicle on the trip, though, because of the many things we were doing. It is nice to drive occasionally, just to have the road trip experience, I guess.

Sometimes when we drive we are too early, and the Welcome Center is not open yet. We make a potty stop and get a picture in the dark, but there is no juice tasting or pamphlet picking to be done. We zoom in and zoom out so we can be in WDW as soon as possible.

I'm thinking the I-75 welcome center to more exciting than the I-95 one...

I believe it is larger and 'funner'. :goodvibes

I can't remember what she was even balking about. Maybe she wanted to get the juice from the lady by herself or something. I don't know, but she is usually very happy and easy to please, and when she does have a moment, it is often about doing something independently, which is a natural phase of her growing up. People (even we are guilty sometimes) tend to treat her like a younger child, because she is so small, and that thwarts her attempts to be the big girl she wants to be. I don't recall what it was, exactly, but it could have been something like that.

I am in need of a part-time job to fund a horribly happy addiction. Maybe I can come work for you, since you are so swamped? ;)

I didn't realize you had started your report; thanks for the heads-up MeMom.

Originally the plan was to start driving as soon as John and I could get off work on Friday afternoon. We would drive as far as we could and then spend the night. We would then get up Saturday and head to Vero Beach. Well my boss is awesome and gave me Friday off.
:woohoo: for great bosses!!!

MeMom drove down to Alabama on Thursday and hung out with the big girls while John and I put in a full day's work. We got home and ate dinner and then headed to bed early so we could get a few hours of sleep before heading out. We headed out at 1:15am. The girls were all asleep which is exactly what we wanted. Our goal was to get through Atlanta before morning traffic.
Always a great idea.::yes::

John drove the first leg and as we were reaching the south side of Atlanta the girls started stirring. We pushed a little farther just to make sure to avoid Atlanta traffic and stopped at Chik-Fil-A for breakfast.

It was the Dwarf House Chik-Fil-A and the girls loved using the little door.
Loving the family photos. I like Chik-Fil-A at breakfast........chick'n minis are fantastic! So where is the Dwarf House? I haven't seen that before. :confused3

Bella was definitely having a morning! Look at that face.
Yes, I'm seeing a little attitude there. :rotfl:

Sophie tasting her first real Florida orange juice.
Is there anything that little one doesn't like??? :)

After about a half hour break we loaded back up and headed south. This little girl did an amazing job traveling and didn't really fuss at all on the journey.

Such a sweet and beautiful little lady and happy smile! :goodvibes

She slept most of the time, and was either eating or playing with her toys when she was awake. She did an excellent job!
That always makes the trip a lot less stressful! :thumbsup2

Jill, I feel like I was right there with you through these pictures. :goodvibes
:rotfl2: Well, somebody had to be on the other side of that camera.......... ;)

I didn't realize you had started your report; thanks for the heads-up MeMom.

Just happened to see you on the Pop board and didn't think you had been over here yet. I am very excited for your big surprise coming up. :)

I'm wondering if Miss Bella needed to go to the rastroom.

Whatever would make you think that????

:woohoo: for great bosses!!!

Always a great idea.

Chicken minis are good! :thumbsup2

I have not seen Sophie ever turn down any food.

*******************************************

Arriving at Art of Animation.

Where is the picture of us driving under the magical arch, you ask?

Well...my camera batteries died right at that moment. I think John got a picture or two on Jill's phone, so maybe she can insert one of them when she gets a minute.

It is so exciting to pull into the parking lot of your resort on the first day of a Disney trip.

In the lobby, looking up at the sketch art.

The girls pointed out their favorite pictures. They liked the monkey and giraffe picture in this one.

The hyenas got the attention in this area.

Checking in.

Out to the Big Blue Pool. Lots of activity here.

My first palm tree picture.

Brooklynn had chosen for us to be in a Lion King suite.

Thus the Hakuna part of the trip title.

Would you like to come inside a Lion King suite?

Alrighty, then, that's coming up next.

The now famous table bed is the first thing you come to. You can see the one bedroom behind it.

In the bedroom.

The bathroom in the bedroom.

Kitchenette and some snooty looking giraffes.

Living area.

Open bathroom right across from table bed.

Cute shower curtain.

Of course, the girls wanted to see how the bed came down.

Now that is exciting stuff when you are four and six.

The view out of our closed shut window.

Going down the steps at the end of the building made for a quick walk to the bus stop.

The idea of a trip title was formulating in my head.

That's it for tonight. Pick one of those rest spots and get some sleep....and don't everyone go for the cool table bed!

MeMom, a great update. I love those rooms...so very cute. Mark and I are hoping to get over to the Arts of Animation resort and walk around next month on our "off" day.

Wow - AofA is so fun and bright! Cool room! But I agree, I think they need a sliding door to the outside!

Loving the trip so far. We always stop at the Welcome Center on I-75 when it's open too. Your pictures bring back so many memories of when my girls were little and we stopped there. In fact, I have pictures with my girls just in the last year or so behind those same boards. :)

We got to take a walk around the outside of the Art of Animation and loved it. We shopped in the shop and also ate at the Food Court. I believe I prefer Pop for the shopping and food court. Maybe because I'm just more familiar with it.

I loved seeing your pictures of the suite. Looks so really cool. Maybe some day, if we have grandkids, we'll do one of those. Now with just DH and me, a simple POP room will be all we need.

Looking forward to more of your report.

Wow the decorations of your suite were really spectacular! I may have to rethink the always a mod or deluxe room.

I remember our trips with the kids when we left at that early hour. It was nice because the kids were sleeping most of the way. Loved the Welcome center, but on our last couple of drives to Florida we were never there when they were over.

Love the Florida Welcome Center pics!
I miss getting that taste of orange juice goodness!
I agree with Valgoof...the juice is good but not worth my 24hr drive to get it. :rotfl:
I'll stick with my less than 3 hour flight instead where I can be on WDW property in no time!
Thanks for the Welcome Center pics...they make me smile as I reminisce about the fond memories I have of our family road trips every year to Florida.
I can remember some trips where my parents drove straight through from Ottawa to Orlando...I don't know how they did it.
(yes I do come to think of it...my Dad was a cop so he was used to staying up all night on 12 hr shifts) :goodvibes

You are so lucky to have stayed at the AoA resort! It looks awesome!
Lexi loved seeing your room pics. She dreams of staying in the Lion King room.
I wish I could justify the price on this trip but I'm trying to cut a few corners to make up for having to buy new flights.
One day we will stay in each of the suites...maybe next spring...looking at booking a May trip. :woohoo:
Got the go ahead from my boss today.

It's pretty much decided that we are now going to Disney from August 22- Sept 1 and staying at POP.
We are going to try preferred pool view this time.
What can I say, it's our favorite resort and I know you would agree with me. ;)

Question: Do you think it is possible to enjoy a 7:35 am breakfast at Chef Mickey's and then make it back to POP for 9:15 am ME pick up?
Not sure if I should attempt it...thoughts? :confused3

I know you weren't asking me, but even if we had a car, we wouldn't attempt that....

Okay, I'm confused.
Your suite looks really nice but you have said more than once that you had a problem with the lack of doors.
I noticed a view from a window.
Is that how you had to get in and out? Crawl through the window?
They don't have any doors?
Now that's just nuts!

I love the picture of the girls checking out the Murphy bed!

Joining in on your trip report. I am fairly new to DIS but I have gone back and read your older trip reports and watching the girls grow up through them was fun. Can't wait to read more.

I think you will enjoy seeing this nicely done resort. ::yes:: If you are there at an off time and the food court is not crowded, you might want to eat there. They have some unique and good food. If it is crowded, though, the good food can be cold before you get to your table.

Wow - AofA is so fun and bright! Cool room! But I agree, I think they need a sliding door to the outside!

Someone saw the pictures of the buildings from outside before they were painted and said it reminded them of a prison! Even small balconies would have been nice, but I guess with no balconies, that takes away the worries of little ones being out on them unattended.

Pop will probably always be 'home' to us. The rooms at AoA are very nice, though, in that they are extremely fresh and clean.

I like the fact that AoA has resort merchandise. I wish they would bring back some Pop t-shirts. :hippie:

If you are going to try a value resort, this is this one to try. It is clean and colorful and still has a new feeling to it, in my opinion.

As much as I enjoy the arrival at the Florida Welcome Center, I will trade that for a short flight any day. I do think it is good that the girls get to experience road trips occasionally, though. Every kid needs to have road trips to talk about when they grow up. :goodvibes

We had preferred pool view at Pop in March. Kay got lost at Pop before, so I figured for the only two nights we were there, I would fork out the extra money. I knew if she could see a pool or hear pool activity, she could find the room. As it worked out, we could have thrown a tennis ball at the big POP sign from our room. There is no way she could have gotten lost! :) And the night time pool noise was not a problem. I left the door open to listen to the splashing, and when we closed it, we could not hear anything enough to be disturbing as we went to sleep. It was a great location.

No way would I plan a 7 anything breakfast on an UnME morning. That is just my opinion. It would be way too stressful. We like to be back at Pop (or wherever) having some down time, last minute run through the gift shop, wind down with some ice cream, etc. before that bad bus pulls up.

I know you weren't asking me, but even if we had a car, we wouldn't attempt that....

Nor would I. Maybe Lana lives the fast and furious life, though.

Windows that do not open and one door that goes to an interior hall. Not good for this claustrophobic. :scared: You may have noticed in these past few trips how I like open doors and open spaces. :) I talked myself through one night at AoA, and I made sure I was extremely tired, as well, so that I would not be able to think about it. I really hate it, because the suites would be good for us.

The girls thought that bed was cool, and that is where they slept.

We are glad to have you along! :welcome: You must have done a ton of reading, or hopefully you just skimmed through some of the bazillion pictures. The girls have been raised in a Disney way, for sure!
