hairstyle help for a 5 year old

When it comes to DD5's hair, I'm hopeless. Her hair is shoulder length, without bangs, and is quite fine and slippery to work with. Any style I try just seems to slip out and become flyaway. Does anyone have any good styling tips to share? I searched the internet and didn't come up with much. I'm also interested to hear how others curl their DD's hair with curlers, such as the long foam bendy type. Thanks in advance. I should've gone to beauty school.

DD is 3 with thinish hair that curls at the bottom with bangs. It took forever for her hair to grow and thicken! I have to wet her hair with a spray bottle for it to do ANYTHING. For ponytails I've found it best to put some gel on my hands and run it over the top bottom...keeps the fly-a-ways clamer. She also doen't like her hair done so within an hour it is usually out. Just recently I have gotten her to try to wear headbands to at least keep it out of her face. I've also found that if I do a 1/2 ponytail it stays better than a whole hair in the back. You may want to change the type of hair ties you use...something with a little more grip. If you take her to have a trim just ask the stylist, she should be abel to give you some advise...luckily I have one in the family who coached me.

When I was small I had thin/baby fine flyaway straight hair - unfortunately, while I grew up my hair never did LOL.

Might I suggest a bob/page boy (short cut just below the chin) tapered slightly toward the back or front? My mom did this to me when I was that age and it looked really cute. It was short enough that it wouldn't tangle, but long enough that I still looked like a little girl. I do the same thing now only I have gradual reverse layers added so it curls under slightly on it's own. Essentially it looks to be all the same length but the bottom layer of hair is about 1/2 inch shorter than the top layer. I dry it with little bit of hair thickenr and use a round brush turning the hair under as it dries.

With curlers (I use hot rollers or a curling iron), to get my hair to stay curled for any length of time I spray each section lightly with Ultra Super Hold (basically aqua-net but not aerosol) hairspray, put the curler in and then when all the curlers are in spray all of my head again, then apply heat/blow with hot hair-dryer to set the hairspray. After I take the curlers out I apply hairspray again over my whole head. Then comb to style and spray again. Truthfully though, since my hair is so straight and fine the curl doesn't hold for more than a couple of hours. I get some body out of it for about two or three more hours. HTH Good Luck

to keep DD's flyaways under control I'll pull up the 2 side pieces into small ponytails on each side of the top of her head. Then capture them both together and band those 2 into one. I use those really small invisible elastic bands too. Sort of like these:

holds even the finest hair in place.

My favorite 'keep out of her face' hair do starts with those top ponys, then I just add in hair and bands all the way down her head to the end of her hair. Think Jasmine's hair. LOL

DD1 has thick, wavy hair that I have no problems with . DD2 has baby fine, stick straight hair! My secret weapon: Paul Mitchell's Reworks on damp hair before "styling." It is a texturizing cream that works wonders on that baby fine flyaway hair! It is a bit pricey, but a little bit goes a long way! Both of my daughters dance, and I can put ANY style in DD2's hair and it stays! Curls, braids, crimping (don't ask), buns, etc.

I have one of each DD4's thin and fine, DD5's long thicker and gorgeous(but she loves to look like cousin it). Of course the child with the fine hair loves having curly hair. I went and bought those bendy curlers, and for the fine hair it need to be sightly damp and needs some mousse, wrap small sections spray and light blow dry. you have curls. My DD was so into curls she even slept with them in one night, very cute

I wish I could do cute styles but I'm doing good to get it pulled out of her face with a clip or in a pony tail holder. She starts screaming at the sight of a brush or comb. I can only stand so much Mommy yooooourrrrr hurrrrting meeee when I'm barely touching her. Funny thing she didn't whimper, not once at BBB.

Well my DD's have super fine hair. They did not get that from me! When I try to let their hair grow, it just looks stringy and like I've never brushed it. DD4 has been styling her short hair cut for a while. I love it! It's really short and stacked in the back. The front is a little longer. She can tuck it behind her ears, or wear a bow. I pull it up from the side and then put a bow in it. Yes I've even curled it. She was in a wedding and I curled her hair put a bow in it and she looked so cute. You can sort of see how her hair is in my siggy. I'll look for another picture.

Wetting hair down is easier if you are trying to pull it up. Spray it with hairspray after. I only use a comb too, a brush just doesn't get it done.
