we snagged tickets for this show for last night's preview. the word of mouth is that it's going to be this year's "Producers".

if the audience reaction last night is an indication, the word of mouth is absolutely correct. the line to buy tickets was halfway around the block, and the show hasn't even opened yet.

Marissa Jaret Winokur plays Tracy (the role Ricki Lake had the the movie) and Harvey Fierstein plays her mother, Edna -- the role played by Divine in the movie.

the show definitely captures the music world of 1962! the songs and dance numbers are fantastic. I also loved the vaudeville-type song Harvvey Fierstein and Dick Latessa perform, as well as the jailhouse tap number. it's funny, upbeat and a really fun show.

Was a funny movie!

Bet it translated to the stage well. Would be a BLAST to see Harvey Fierstein as Edna - I love him!

I'm so glad that you took my advice to see it!!!

I told you this one is destined for a ton of Tony's.:) :) :)

It's such a fun show, and the cast is sooooooo talented.

I preordered the soundtrack while we were there. I can't wait for it to get released.

it's available tuesday. I opted not to preorder it, because they won't ship it until tuesday, and I can pick it up at Tower the day it's released.

it's going to be a good season this year, don't you think? I hear Bernadette Peters is coming back in "Gypsy" and Brian Stokes Mitchell and Ernie Sabella are doing "Man of La Mancha" this srping. and with Billy Joel's "Movin' Out" and Jim Steinman's "Dance of the Vampire Killers" we should have a very interesting season.

I guess I'll be running to my mailbox next week.:p :p

We're keeping an eye out for "Flower Drum Song."

dizneegirl, there's one scene in the play where Harvey Fierstein only says "excuse me." It brought the house down, too funny.

As it's premiere draws closer, tickets are getting harder to get. I'm so glad that we went.

:D :D :D

Man, would I love to go and see this play. I wish NYC wasn't so far away from Michigan :( Regina told me it was wonderful *sigh* wish I could see for myself after reading your great review BR

you should have seen the line for standby last night! and the line for advance sales!

I'm taking my dd's to see it in november, and I'm glad I bought those tickets when I did.

still haven't forgiven myself for blowing the chance to see"the Producers" last year.

Flower Drum Song's box office opens in two weeks, dvcreg. if I don't get a TDF offer for it, I'll be getting on that line, you can be sure.

I knew this would be huge success.

I loved the movie. I'm trying to imagine Harvey Fierstein as the Divine character. I will see this, not sure when, but its on my list.

Thanks for the review, BR!
