Hairdryer for Thick Curly Hair - Deva Curl

DD18 has a hairdryer on her Christmas list. Hers is terrible. It takes so long to dry - she has to use a diffuser. So, went to Ulta last night to look at my options and ended up buying the Deva Curl Blower Dryer with Finger Shaped Diffuser. It was $150. I don't mind spending the money if it works -but then I checked reviews and either they love it or hate it. Just wondering if anyone has this and if they like it or any other suggestions. Thanks.

I have curly hair and have to use a diffuser also. I bought the Dyson dryer. It's wonderful but very expensive. If you shop at Ulta, you can accumulate a ton of points for this purchase. I bought mine by redeeming points, so it only cost me around $100. The Deva Curl brand has a good reputation though. I'm sure she'll love it.

Thanks. Yeah the Dyson ones are like $400 and look awesome ( I don't shop often enough to get points to spend). Ulta does have a 60 day return period, so she can always try it out and see if it works for her. If not she can exchange for something else.

I get Deva cuts, and honestly I think the investment in the CUT helped me more than any hair dryer. I went back to using my cheapy $20 one w/ a diffuser I got from Walmart or wherever. BUT I will say that my hair is rather short, so I don't have to spend a lot of time drying it.

She goes to a stylist that only cuts curly hair. She had a Deva Cut before and was not happy with it. (could have been the gal doing it at the time). Her hair is about mid- back length and can take 30-45 minutes to dry. It's a good thing she only needs to wash her hair like twice a week. Lots of times she just lets it dry on it's own but looks nicer when it is blow dryed.

Ah yeah - I had to chop all mine off so it's easier for me to air dry and touch up with the diffuser.
I'm hoping to grow out eventually.

I prefer a deep bell-shaped diffuser with the lititle fingers that stick up for my long-ish curly hair. I typically wash and blow dry my hair upside down and the bell diffuser is the easiest to manage from that angle. I found a bell diffuser on Amazon for about $20 and it works great.

I prefer a deep bell-shaped diffuser with the lititle fingers that stick up for my long-ish curly hair. I typically wash and blow dry my hair upside down and the bell diffuser is the easiest to manage from that angle. I found a bell diffuser on Amazon for about $20 and it works great.

It feels very sturdy, my kids sometimes toss my hair stuff around in our little bathroom and this thing is definitely tough!

This is my suggestion as well. I really don’t care for the Devacurl diffuser (or any of their stuff honestly)... But the bell shaped diffusers are great. The bigger the better IMO.

Thanks. I think I need to rethink the Deva Curl Dryer. I wish the diffusers were universal but they don't all fit on every hairdryer - so need to figure that out too.

I have a finger shaped deva curl diffuser that fits on any long nozzle hair dryer. I have had it for years and I have always liked it. My hair isn't thick though so doesn't take long to dry. I always let mine air dry some before going at it with a hair dryer. Takes less time to dry and doesn't frizz as much.

I would let her try it and take it back if she doesn't love it.

I have very thick, straight hair that falls a couple of inches below my shoulders--it can take forever to dry, and when it isn't dried all the way through, it can get "big" and frizzy, not sleek. It would take me a very long time to dry it. I bought one of the T3 dryers at Costco and it has been a godsend. Hair is dried in about 13 minutes, much sleeker.

I was telling my sister who has thick curly hair, though it's a little shorter than my hair, and she asked me to pick up one for her too. Same thing. Dries much faster, less friz. I think when it dries faster it frizzes less for some reason.

My hair is naturally curly, looks like a perm. Just not paid for one hah. It took a long time to train my hair with the dryer to make it straight, If I want curly hair I just use a regular diffuser. It is hard even with reviews, as everyones hair is so different. Is there a salon around you that has the more expensive diffuser? If so you could go check it out and see if it works before spending the money. It may be worth making phone calls to check with a stylist first. They may even have some suggestions for you

In all honesty, my hair does best based on the products I use and that I use the right amounts. No shampoo 3/4 of the time. I use a good conditioner every shower. Rinse it well. Then a good leave in conditioner for curly hair and a scrunch spray. Just a dab of the leave in and a good spritz of the other.

As long as I am careful with that, it looks great using a cheapy hair dryer from Walmart and scrunching it. I have tried using the diffuser but just don’t have that kind of time to dry it.

I do exactly all this but I don’t use either scrunch spray or a dryer at all. The leave in conditioner is alternated depending on my mood and on air humidity with a frizz control serum, then air dry after scrunching.
