Hairbraiding question...

Hi all... new member here. We're just getting ready for our 2nd cruise ( 7 Day Jan17 on the Magic). Loved the first one so much we're taking my wifes whole family this time.... 16 of us all together.

I've got a simple question. We have about 6 little girls in the group who want their hairbraided. On the last cruise we didn't realize the girls wanted it til too late, and ended up doing it on Castaway Cay. This time we'd like to have it done early. What is the best way to get hairbraiding reservations early in the voyage.

Thanks!

Either check your Navigator or ask guest services when they will begin taking reservations. Make sure you are there a few minutes early, there will probably be a line. We also had to tell them how many braids DD wanted, so they knew how long to schedule her for.
Good luck.

My 2 got their hair braided and both said it " HUURRRTTT" . The 8 yo even had a few tears shed .

On our 11/8 Western, Hairbraiding sign ups were around 5:30PM embarkation day right outside Treasure Ketch, in the auction area. They do the schedule for the week there, so don't miss the sign ups. They fill up fast- long line on our cruise.

Check your navigator when you get it at check in, it's in really fine print. You can miss it if you weren't looking for it.

They did a great job. My DD has had her hair done many times. She got a corn row headband type done, with the braids going down from it. I think it was $2.50 a braid- can't remember the exact price. She said that the women on ship were very gentle, but she's had some bad ones... The little girl next to her was in tears. I think the younger they are, the more sensitive their scalps are.

The braiding is done by the Goofy Pool at a station near Cove Cafe- in the shade.

Hope that helps!

The price is $2 per braid and $2.50 per cornrow. Add $.50 for really long hair.

Ask at guest services if you don't see it on the initial navigator. On our 2002 cruise, sign up wasn't until the morning of the 2nd day. My DD said it hurt a little bit, and she has a pretty tender head.

I met a few people on our Dec. 13 cruise who had their daughter's hair done in port in St. Maarten.... they were able to bargain with the person doing the braiding; one got a whole head braid for $30. Wish we had done that. We ended up not getting ours done till Castaway Cay and my daughter and I ended up with over $45 each, just in a headband of cornrows, no braids added.

i personally didn't get my hair braided but a couple in our group did. it really might be worth it to have it done on st. maarten or st. thomas there are people practically begging to braid and will bargain however, i don't recommend CC, HUGE lines, hot sun, not good.

We have experienced hair braiding on the Magic and in St Maarten. Even though it cost a bit more, we will definately be making appointments for the Magic again this year.

1. The braids from the magic stayed in much better, the ones from St Maarten had what looked like tin foil around the ends and the beads were out before we left the ship. The ends of the ones from the Magic had rubbber bands around the ends and were in for weeks after we came home.

2. Cleanliness. The combs on the ship are clean. I really didn't think about it until we were in St Maarten and the girls pulled the comb out of her back pocket and my mom said, "I wonder when the last time was that was washed"

Just my opinion, but that made me think.

Those are my exact thoughts! If I remember correctly, I have read somewhere in this forum in the past that it is recommended to get the hair-braiding done on the ship for that very reason. Ewww Just to think of all the people they use that comb on, and you dont even know if they wash it or not at night let alone it being in the back pocket. Makes my teeth itch! Yuck!
My daughter wants her hair braided too and I plan on letting her get it done asap on the ship. Might as well enjoy it for the whole cruise...:happy1:

Thanks for the info! I had the same unsanitary thoughts!!We will be getting our DD's done on the ship!!:wave2:

For those of you going on the 3 or 4 night, there isn't (last I heard) hairbraiding on the ship. My DD got her hair braided in Nassau, since we didn't want to wait to Castaway Cay, and I took my own combination comb/pick and made sure the lady used that. She didn't seem to mind. I'm sure she realized that if she didn't she would lose the business.

LOL@CRB#33!! Good for you!! ::yes:: I like someone that uses her own mind!

If that is the case, I might just get her a french-braid here before we go...I'll have to see what she thinks/wants. It takes so much time for them to do all that braiding and we are anticipating going swimming with the dolphins on Nassau. I have no idea of the time frame there!

Thanks!

My daughter and I got our hair braided on the 3 Day Wonder in May 2003. I saw the girls on the pool deck one day braiding and went and inquired. They said the were booked for the rest of the afternoon but had appointments the following day. I looked through their book and found a good time for us. The spot to meet them was in this little hidden area that was next to the stairs to the ESPN lounge. It was behind a curtain and they pulled it back and there were just two chairs and beads. People kept coming and asking what time they could come back to get their hair done, and they were completely booked until we were getting off the ship!
Everything was very clean and maintained, I believe we each got brand new combs.
Oh, on another note. It was rather owie! ::yes:: You got the occasional pull here and there when it was getting done, but sleeping with beads was not pleasurable. This time I think we will get a hair wrap on one section instead. My daughter had one a few years ago, it was not painful and stayed in for a while.

Oh that's okay! had thought that there would only be braiding off the boat also and I was so happy to see the braiders poolside!

Be careful with some hair wraps! My dd got her hair wrapped in Disney and in killed that part of her hair! Luckily, we did the wrap underneath by her neck, otherwise if we had done it on top, the little remaining stub would have stuck out!It wasn't in that long either.

The same thing happened to my DD. She had a hair wrap from the Beach Club. It broke off all of the hair in the wrap. We called her "peacock" for about 3 months until it grew back and didn't stick straight up:hyper:

How long did she keep it in? Emily's hair seemed to be okey, we actually had a harder time getting those braids out, LOL.
BTW, have a wonderful time in 9 DAYS!! I'm jealous!
