Hi

I have fine frizzy (half curly) hair and use GHDs to tame it. Now I have an old pair of GHD straightners so they don't have the dual voltage. I borrow a friend's travel straightners whenever I go to the USA and, while they do tame it somewhat, they are just not as good as GHDs. It takes longer to straighten, doesn't get quite as smooth and doesn't last as long. I can't afford to buy a new pair of GHDs (holiday in a month, just paid car tax and mot due next week). Even on ebay they seem to be going for £60+ and I'm a little concerned at the fakes. I could buy a pair on net in USA and have them sent to my friend to collect while I'm there but they seem to be around $200.

Can anyone recommend somewhere where I can get something to either make my old ghds work (without blowing up) in the USA or where I can get some older (but still dual voltage) ghds for £50 or below? If not, does anyone else have my prob with frizz and can they recommend an alternative, cheaper straightner?

Thank you

I don't think you can get anything to make it work, I had the same problem when I was in the US last year.

What I did was bought a cheap pair of straighteners (think they're Vidal Sassoon) over there from Target (they were like $30) and while they weren't as good as my GHD's :lovestruc they were pretty damn close. I was actually just gonna bin them at the end of the 2 weeks but I've brought them home with me and plan to use them in the future. I find anyway, no matter how hard I try my hair on hol just doesn't look the way it does at home, lol.

There was LOADS of different options/styles of straighteners to choose from and for 2 weeks I wasn't bothered, but I'm sure you could find something pretty close to GHD's while over there :thumbsup2

Sorry don't have frizzy hair... mines as straight as anything:rolleyes:

but you can get a pair of straighteners out there quite cheaply!

Have a look on the Walmart website and see what they have in??

Thanks guys. I'll take a look. GHD were no help at all and simply said 'not to worry cause I could buy a pair out there' for $200+ - for two weeks? are they crazy?

These are the one's I bought from Target, in blue. Like I said, they're pretty good for the price! Only problem I had was my hand is obviously too used to GHD's that they felt weird when using them, lol.

If you go here there's loads and quite alot look "similar" to GHD's. Probably won't be as good mind you but I'm sure it'd be fine for a week or 2!

And I just seen your countdown, it was actually California I bought mine in, lol. And alot of the malls had stands in the middle of straighteners and stuff (like they do here nowadays) so there was alot of choice!
