Hair Straightener in my carry on?!

would i be able to put my hair straightener in my carry on or do i need to check it? its very expensive and i dont really want to put it in my luggage

also what about my makeup?!?!

Makeup is trickier, it has to be smaller than 100ml if liquid. Powders are not an issue regardless of size. If you have liquid or gel stuff (foundation, moisturizer, eye serum, acne meds, liquid eyeliner, anything like that - or any hair products like gel, shampoo, conditioner, or hairspray) they have to be in containers 100ml or smaller, and ALL of the little containers must be packed in a small (20cm x 20cm) ziploc bag. Each person is allowed one of the bags of liquid containers in their carryon.

For packing this type of thing in your checked bags, there is no restriction with size or amount. You can pack full-size bottles of shampoo, etc in checked luggage.

I've put my hair straightener in my carry-on bag lots of times and I haven't had any problems.

thanks so much for your help! im gunna put the straightener in my carry on and my makeup and hair products in a little tub in my suitcase so they dont get ruined/explode on my clothes! thanks again

The best way to take the shrimp with her to Arizona would be to pack it in dry ice and check it with her luggage. She should be able to get very specific instruction as to how it should be packed either from the airline's website or by calling their CS number.

I agree - it's best to pack it in dry ice as a checked piece of luggage. You can check a hard-sided cooler that way - we used to bring lobster back from Florida to Minnesota every year that way.

Check with your airline to make sure what the rules are.

The real answer is that there is absolutely no TSA restriction forbidding taking frozen seafood in a carry-on bag.

However, there ARE restrictions forbidding ice packs for non-medical reasons, as the innards of the ice packs are a gel or liquid or something similar. Dry ice would also be a no-no.

So she can take the shrimp itself, but she won't be able to keep it cold. I imagine there could be a lot of smelly thawing between the Gulf Coast and Arizona.

So she is permitted to take the shrimp in carry-on, but from a practical standpoint she won't want to take it without a way to keep it frozen.

It got there just fine, it was frozen solid and sealed in plastic so no odor. She put it in an extra large ziplock bag. When she arrived it was still 90% frozen, she boiled it up that evening.

I don't think I'd do it that way, but my mom is a risk taker

My philosophy is that I would rather deal with no problems at security checkpoint and just inconvenience myself with putting "questionable" things in my checked luggage.

I wear Bare Escentuals "powder" mineral makeup for example and I just put it with my luggage even though it winds up being a total mess next time I open it. It's not even worth the thought of being stopped and checked if someone wants to make a deal of something.
