Okay, I'm looking for some advice from any hair experts out there. I'm sick of my hair and need some advice about what to do. :goodvibes

Here's some info about me and my "now" hair:
I'm 22 (almost 23), in school for nursing.
I'm only about 5'0" (maybe 5'1" if I'm lucky) and a bit on the rounder side.. :rolleyes1
My hair now is long, about halfway down my back. It's THICK. Everytime I get my haircut, I have to hear about how much hair I have and how lucky I am, etc.. blah. I'm definitely not lucky, it's a pain! It's also pretty curly and can be on the frizzy side if I don't use products.

Here's a picture from last summer so you can see where my length is, I'm probably 1-2" longer than the picture now.

Most of the time (seriously, 90%) I just wear it in a ponytail or a messy bun because it takes so much work to do anything with it.

So, any ideas on what to do for a change? I've heard that short hair doesn't work very well for people who are short and/or chubbier, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. If I was brave enough, I'd try something like this:

or like this:

Buuut, I'm not sure how that would work out with my hair being so thick and curly. Siiiiigh.

SO. Does anyone else out there have super thick, curly hair? If so, what do you do with it?!

Or, if anyone has any cut/styling suggestions, I'd sure appreciate it. My main concerns are that I want something fairly low maintenance (due to school and eventually, nursing) and I want something that is age-relevant and not a cut my mom would get.

Thanks to anyone who responds. :goodvibes

i have a lot of the same issues as you. except my hair is thin and fine (still long and curly). i would love to cut a lot off, but i'm afraid my head would look too small for my (short and fat!) body.....like beetlejuice!!!! lol
but i also end up with it pulled back almost every day, so probably not too different.
i have a longer face too, rather than round. and a new extra chin :lmao: wish my hair could somehow hide that!

oh yeah, i forgot to tell you good luck in what ever you decide to do. both those styles look cute. i think you could pull it off.

That's what I'm worried about, too! I don't want to look like I have a shrunken head! :lmao:

I have thick hair with a bit of a wave in it. I love the Asymmetrical bob.
I would recommend that what ever you get, have it hit right at or below the chin. I don't think super short is as flattering on a round face (like mine) and once I had a lady cut my hair so that it hit just below my cheek (when I was pregnant...not skinny at all!) I looked like a mushroom head for the loooongest time!
I do use a flat iron every morning though.

I have wavy hair and am pooh sized. I had a very short cut for a year in college. Some people loved it, some not so much. I think the thing I liked the most about it was that it was easy. But, looking back at myself in photos, I don't think it was very flattering at all.

I had super duper long curly crazy scary hair in highschool/college:

I had it cut short, thinned out (textured), and strictly use a Chi iron (I know other people will come in here and say another brand iron will work just as well, but I will tell you I haven't had luck with anything else, and yes, I've tried most of them!). It is still somewhat difficult to manage, but it takes less time and it definitely looks better!

this is about as long as I can let it grow before it becomes a pain or simply takes to long to style:

also, I wouldn't suggest cutting it so short so drastically!

Try going shorter and shorter over the course of a year. You may get to a certain length and be like "STOP! I like it here!", rather than go "I HATE IT!" and have to wait for it to grow back. :goodvibes

Good luck !

I have really thick, really curly hair, too. I also hear about how beautiful it is everytime I get it cut. I also hear about how lovely it is from strangers! It's a blessing and a curse! See my TR for the curse portion- FL humidity!
I think the short cut is really cute. I've thought about it but think I am too much of an amazon to pull it off! 5'9" and a size 12! I have a friend who is short and a little thick and has that cut. It is really cute, but she also has dainty facial features- I do not!

I think face shape is a big factor in what style is flattering. From your pic. you look like you have a round face. Here is a website with short hairstyles for round faces (you could just google that to get good ideas too)

My hair is similar to the first one, and I love it! I do flat iron it most days, but it looks really cute with some curl too.

Definitely! The friend I mentioned who has the cut has very pixie-ish features eventhough she is a little bigger.

Thanks! That's a good idea. I really like your hair in that second picture you posted, with the chin-length hair. I've had it shoulder-length before, and it was okay, so I might start there and work my way shorter until I find a good length.

That's my problem, too - humidity! Being in Iowa in the summer time.. My hair has a mind of it's own sometimes.

:rotfl:
That's exactly what I'm hoping to avoid!!

Thanks for that site! I might try and google and see what all I can find for round face shapes. :thumbsup2

I have thick wavy hair. I've had my hair as short as in your photos, and my hair straightened out (Natalie's style in the pic is courtesy of a 1/4" flat iron). For my wave pattern, short and long work, but medium is a mess. I flat iron occasionally, but prefer not to fry my hair on a regular basis.

I have thick, curly hair and usually sits somewhere between my ears and the middle of my back. Right now its shoulder length and I had it to right at my ears summer of '09. I tend to go to the extreme when I cut my hair. Ive had short cuts that do not look right and others that look fine.

UPDATE TIME!

I finally got brave enough to get a hair cut today.

It was long enough that I decided to donate it to Locks of Love. So, here's how it turned out:

aaand, the new cut:

I literally JUST got home from getting it cut, but so far I love it! I feel like I've lost 5lbs off my head. :goodvibes I used to get really bad headaches thanks to my crazy long hair, so I'm hoping this will help out.

Thanks again for all the advice, everyone!
