I have been coloring my hair blonde for quite along time and have heard the rumors that if you color your hair blonde and then get into a pool with alot of chlorine {?} in it that it will turn your hair green.

As you can see by the counter, our trip isn't that far off and I really need to color my hair before going. But I am scared to death of my hair turning green if I get into the pool. DH can't handle both DS and DD by himself in the pool. Actully I am the only one in the family that knows how to swim.

Has anyone had this happen to them? My hair is a little past my shoulders so if I put it up in a high ponytail on my head, then I shouldn't have anything to worry about, right?

Worrying about this is getting the best of me. :scared1:

I've seen it happen (not on me since I'm not a blonde....anymore *ahem*). I think you'll be fine as long as you wash it right away.

my hair was bleached blond last yera at wdw in july and it did nt turn green,, but then i didnt get into pool often either?:)

I have natural blond hair and when I was younger and swimming in the pool all the time during the summer, my hair would get a green tint...now there is special shampoo on the market also, plus if you wa**** right away and don't let the chlorine sit in your hair I think you would be fine. I highlight my hair now with blond highlights and even with the occassional swim it doesn't get the green tint.

Look at the bright side, if it turns Lime Green, you will be easy to spot for other Dissers!;)

I have naturally ash blondish hair, it already has a greenish tint to it so I have to be really careful about rinsing cholorine out of my hair. I use this from Paul Mitchell throughout the summer, as we are avid pool users:

Oops, don't know why the link didn't work. When you get to drugstore.com, do a search on Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three.

Wet your hair with "regular" water before you get into the pool. And you can put a leave in cond in your hair. Make sure you wash your hair after you swim. Most people who hair turned green were people who swam all the time-like on swim teams. When you get home you can mix up Redkin Cleasning Creme 2T & 1 pkg of Crystal light lemonade. Apply to wet hair leave on 15 min with shower cap rinse then cond. Redken also makes a summer hair care line, Sun Shape they have a 2 leave ins & shampoo. We use them I have Color treated hair & a pool.

As long as you don't spend all day in the pool, and let your hair dry while at the pool, and then immediately wash it out with a clarifying shampoo, you might be o.k. My hairdresser always yells at me when I've been in the pool, yes she can tell. I have naturally blond hair, but do add lighter highlights. She can always tell after I've been in the pool, and even done all these steps. She told me that regardless of what you do, the chlorine attaches itself to the hair and only some of it comes out, never all of it. If you place it on top of your head and don't get it wet, you should be fine. My hair did turn green from swimming in the summer when I was little, but it does take hours a day and letting the chlorine dry in your hair for that to happen. The main thing is to not spend hours in the pool, because once your hair dries with the clorine in it, nothing you do will remove it.

Thank you so much!!!

Everything that was suggested I am going to get and take with me on the trip just to on the safe side. LOL!!!

Big Dude...If my hair turned Lime Green, my DH and kids would lock me in the room and not let me out to go to the parks. LOL!!! ::yes:: :hyper: Or they would take me to the parks and say I was a new Disney character. LOL!!!

Thanks again to everyone!!! :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc
